Yun Xiao Ba watched with envy.

He was polishing a pair as well. ’We started at the same time, so why don’t they look the same?’

Yun Jiao happily continued polishing the walnuts in her hand as she walked home.

At home, Shen Yunlian was already packing their luggage, including the items they were to bring to Third Brother, Yun Chen Nan.

"The Capital is even colder than here. Take a few more warm clothes."

"Mom, that’s enough, that’s enough! It’ll be a hassle to bring so much stuff on the train. Why don’t we just mail the big items to Third Brother?"

"That works too."

It was now November, and people in their area were all bundled up in thick clothing.

Few people went out to sea anymore.

It was cold, and the weather was unpredictable.

"Jiaojiao, you aren’t going with your own family this time, so bring some extra money. Don’t trouble your Grandpa Gu for everything, and you must remember to stick with the adults and not get lost..."

Still worried, Shen Yunlian and the other adults pulled the two children aside and fussed over them with reminders.

Yun Jiao nodded. "I know."

After dinner, Yun Jiao and Yun Xiao Ba took their two dogs for a walk around the village.

They strolled to the tree at the village entrance to listen to the aunties and old grannies gossip.

She instinctively took out a handful of sunflower seeds and started munching on them.

Suddenly, someone shouted toward the village entrance, "Heavens, you guys, hurry and see if that’s not Cai Jinhua and her husband."

Everyone looked over and saw that it was indeed them.

The two had just been released, and they were wearing thin clothes, shivering in the cold.

They had both lost a lot of weight and looked like they had been having a very hard time.

"My, they’re out already."

Everyone’s eyes instantly lit up with the gleam of juicy gossip.

The reason was simple: Yun Pan Di and Yun Zhaodi had left over a month ago.

When they left, they only left a note saying they were leaving to find work in a big city, but they didn’t say where.

They also stated that they left on their own, so no one should waste time looking for them or report it to the police.

Their country was so big; it would be difficult to find two people even if they were still in the same city.

Not to mention, who knew where Yun Pan Di and Yun Zhaodi had actually gone.

So the village chief only sent people out for a token search before giving up.

It was probably a good thing for the two girls that they had left.

It’s just that no one expected two young girls like them to have so much courage.

Their grandpa and grandma, on the other hand, had cried and wailed their hearts out.

It wasn’t that they were particularly worried about or heartbroken over their two granddaughters.

The old couple had been waiting for Cai Jinhua and her husband to get out so they could discipline the girls and use their marriages to get a bride price.

But now that the girls had just up and left, they were dumbfounded.

"Cai Jinhua, Dan, you’re out?"

Cai Jinhua forced a smile. She didn’t want to talk to anyone; she just wanted to get home quickly.

"We’re not dressed warmly enough, so we’re heading back first."

"Oh, let’s walk together. You guys haven’t heard, have you? Your Pandi and Zhaodi have run away."

"What?!!!"

Cai Jinhua was shocked. "What do you mean, ’run away’?"

"Your Pandi and Zhaodi! They were probably afraid you’d marry them off for money when you got back, so they ran off when they heard you were about to be released. They said they were going to find work somewhere else."

Hate instantly flashed in Cai Jinhua’s and Yun Dan’s eyes.

’If only Yun Pan Di had just obediently gotten married without a fuss, the two of them wouldn’t have been arrested and thrown in jail.’

That was why they had already decided that the first thing they would do upon release was to teach Yun Pan Di a good lesson.

’What an ungrateful wretch, she’d rather watch her own parents go to jail than get married.’

It just goes to show, these two selfish people would never place the blame on themselves.

But what they hadn’t expected was that two girls who had grown up in a fishing village, whose farthest trip had only been to the local town, would have the guts to leave the city.

Yun Dan and his wife couldn’t be bothered to talk to these people anymore. They immediately ran home.

Naturally, the crowd of gossip-lovers followed them.

Yun Jiao was no exception. She blended into the crowd and followed along to watch the excitement.

She quite enjoyed watching other people’s drama unfold.

Soon, the surprised and happy voices of the old couple could be heard from Yun Dan’s house.

But when the conversation turned to Yun Pan Di and Yun Zhaodi, both sides started blaming each other, and it quickly escalated into a shouting match.

The people outside listened with great relish.

The noise inside didn’t stop until it seemed Cai Jinhua and her husband got hungry and wanted something to eat.

Having heard enough, Yun Jiao headed home too.

She even told her mom and grandma about it.

"It’s a good thing Pandi and Zhaodi left."

"Yes, with Laidi to guide them, the two sisters’ lives will only get better from now on."

Other than giving the village something new to talk about, the return of Cai Jinhua and her husband had little effect.

In fact, because the two had been to prison, their popularity took a visible nosedive.

The people who used to hang out with Cai Jinhua were no longer willing to speak much with her.

Most importantly, when Pandi and Zhaodi left, they took all the money they had earned with them.

The old couple in their family couldn’t find much when they went foraging by the sea, and being lazy, they had been living off the family’s savings.

When Cai Jinhua and Yun Dan checked their savings and saw only a hundred or so yuan left, they felt like their world was collapsing.

Needless to say, the days that followed were filled with arguments.

The next morning, Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe took the two children and their packages to the Gu Family’s house.

"Elder Gu, we’ll be entrusting Jiaojiao and Little Eight to you."

Elder Gu nodded. "Don’t worry, I’ll keep these two little ones by my side."

As they were talking, someone walked in.

"Master!"

Yun Jiao’s eyes lit up when she saw who it was.

That’s right, the person approaching was Yun Jiao’s master, Elder Xu.

"You don’t need to worry about my apprentice. I’ll take her myself."

Elder Gu: "What, you’re willing to part with that clinic of yours now?"

Elder Xu snorted. "My son asked me to come back for his birthday celebration. Is there a problem with that?"

"Fine, fine, of course there’s no problem. Let’s go together then. Did you get your ticket?"

Elder Xu: "Of course I did. I had your son buy it for me. Our seats are together."

Elder Gu: "You certainly know how to give orders, treating my son like he’s your own."

The two old men started bickering childishly again. Yun Jiao and Yun Xiao Ba exchanged a look; the two youngsters were both a little exasperated.

The train was at three o’clock. After breakfast, they headed to the city train station.

Thanks to arrangements made by Elder Gu’s son, they went directly by car.

Compared to the seating cars, the sleeper cars were less crowded.

After finding their spots, they stowed their luggage under the bunks.

"Master, you can sleep on the bottom bunk. I’ll take the middle one."

Yun Jiao nimbly climbed up to the middle bunk.

She was small, and while the cramped space of the middle bunk made it difficult for an adult to even turn over, it was just right for her.

"Be careful."

"Oh, right, Master. In my bag, there’s an aluminum box with some persimmon cakes my maternal grandmother made. You can have some if you get hungry."

"There’s ginger candy, too."

Her maternal grandmother’s persimmon cakes were ready. They were a beautiful color, coated with a lovely layer of white frost—as delicious as they were pretty.
