The Ocean's Little Tyrant: A Mermaid Baby Conquers the 80s
Chapter 400 - 394: Yun Laide Returns
A little while later, a tuna appeared in her other hand.
’This should be enough.’
Yun Jiao happily swam back toward the island.
"Dad, Little Uncle, look what I brought back!"
Yun Jiao shouted the moment her head broke the surface.
The two men hurried over to lend a hand. They were overjoyed when they saw the hundreds of pounds of nine-section shrimp and the tuna.
"You’ve only been gone a little while, and you’ve already brought back so much?"
Yun Jiao nodded and sniffed the air. "It smells so good! Dad, what are you guys making?"
Yun Linhe said, "We found a wild pheasant in the woods earlier. Since there were coconuts here, we made some coconut chicken."
After eating and drinking their fill, they took the shrimp and the tuna and rushed back to the pier without a moment’s delay.
When they arrived at the pier, familiar faces greeted them warmly.
"Lin Hai, Lin He! We haven’t seen you in a while. I heard you even borrowed the village chief’s boat. Where have you been?"
Yun Linhai and the others had already prepared an excuse.
"We went to visit some relatives. They live by the sea too, so it’s easier to travel by boat."
As for why they needed two boats, they could just fudge an excuse.
To distract everyone, they simply brought out the nine-section shrimp and the tuna.
Sure enough, everyone’s attention immediately shifted to the tuna, which was as big and heavy as a New Year’s pig.
"You caught another tuna!"
"Good heavens, it’s like the ocean is your own private pond! How do you keep catching such good stuff every so often?"
By now, however, the people of Bailong Village felt nothing but admiration; there was no room for any other emotion.
After all, with Yun Jiao around, catching a tuna like this was perfectly normal.
If Yun Jiao’s family had simply gotten rich on their own, the villagers would still have been green with envy.
But Yun Jiao’s family had previously donated a huge sum of money to renovate both the village temple and the ancestral hall.
They also took care of the village elders and the children who couldn’t afford to go to school.
In the end, most people were grateful, and they deeply appreciated Yun Jiao’s family.
Besides, whenever her family caught something good, they would hold a feast every now and then, and the villagers could always get a share of the delicious food.
The village children also often received candy and other little snacks from Yun Jiao and her brothers.
So, it was impossible to be jealous.
This family was truly decent.
Everyone even enthusiastically helped them move the fish and shrimp off the boat.
"What’s the plan? Take it to Ah Wang’s place?"
They didn’t even consider any other fishmongers, no matter how enthusiastically those dealers called out to them.
Besides what they sold themselves, Yun Linhai’s family gave all their catch to Ah Wang to sell.
"Yeah, we’ll take it to Ah Wang."
With a lollipop in her mouth, Yun Jiao said, "Dad, Little Uncle, I’m heading home."
She wasn’t interested in selling the fish anymore.
"Alright, go on home."
As soon as they left, a crowd gathered around the people from Bailong Village to ask questions.
"Where did those three go to catch something so good? That’s a tuna! Aren’t you shocked?"
One could tell just by the question that this person didn’t frequent the pier.
"Shocked? Nah. They bring back amazing things every other day. They’ve already caught several tuna. Have you ever seen a giant octopus with tentacles over four meters long? They caught one and ate it themselves. Everyone in our village got to try some, and let me tell you, it was delicious. And then there were the arm-length lobsters..."
"HISS... They’re that incredible?"
"You bet. But it’s mainly the little girl who’s amazing. She’s got incredible skills. Can you believe someone so small can hold her breath underwater for half an hour? If I had that ability, I’d be able to find valuable stuff in the sea too."
Of course, the main thing was Yun Jiao’s ability to summon and command killer whales and Humpback Whales, but the villagers had a tacit understanding not to mention this to outsiders.
Even the village troublemakers had been threatened by their families and the village chief to keep their mouths shut.
The villager spoke with great pride. After all, Yun Jiao was from their village, which by extension, kind of made her one of their own, hehe...
In the crowd, a shifty-eyed man’s gaze flickered before he quickly slipped away and disappeared.
Meanwhile, on her way home, Yun Jiao ran into someone unexpected.
"Jiaojiao."
The person called out to her. Yun Jiao stopped and tilted her head to look.
Her face was wrapped in a black silk scarf, obscuring her features.
Until she took the scarf off.
Yun Jiao blinked.
"Sister Laidi?"
Yun Laide nodded, her eyes welling up slightly.
The two of them found a secluded spot in a bamboo grove to talk.
"Sister Laidi, when did you come back?"
She took in Yun Laide’s appearance: new clothes, and in a nice style, too. Her complexion was no longer as dark and sallow as when she had left, and her eyes shone with vitality and confidence.
’Mm, it looks like she’s been doing well since she left home.’
Yun Laide said, "I came back three days ago."
She hadn’t dared to go straight home, so she first asked around about her family’s situation.
She never expected that her parents had been arrested.
What she expected even less was that after she had "disappeared," they had tried to push Pandi into a pit of fire for money.
She was furious and her heart ached for Pandi.
It was only after finding out that those two had been arrested and would be released in a few months that she decided to make a trip to Bailong Village.
"I’m going to take Pandi and Zhaodi away from here."
Yun Laide continued, "Also, thank you for your help back then."
It’s rare to receive help when you’re in dire need. At her lowest and most desperate moment, the one who had reached out a hand was this little child in front of her.
She would never forget that small amount of money and those few pieces of candy.
"Jiaojiao, this is for you."
She took out a thousand yuan and handed it to Yun Jiao.
Yun Jiao shook her head. "I don’t want it. You should keep it, Sister Laidi. You’ll need a lot of money to take Sister Pan Di and Yun Zhaodi away from here."
’Of course, the main reason is that I’m not short on money.’
Seeing her firm refusal, Yun Laide was deeply moved. After a moment’s thought, she took out a few pieces of chocolate from her pocket.
"Then take these."
This time, Yun Jiao happily accepted.
Yun Laide went on to tell her, in a rambling sort of way, about what had happened to her after she left.
On the train, she had met a woman who was a human trafficker. Since she didn’t know where to go at the time, she was tricked into going with her to Shanghai.
Fortunately, thanks to Yun Jiao’s warning, she hadn’t fully trusted the woman. When she realized something was wrong, she decisively ran away and even reported her.
After that, she found a temporary place to stay in Shanghai.
She stumbled into the clothing industry by chance. Later, using information she had, she spent all her wages to buy clothes from a wholesale clothing factory.
She had a good eye for picking out clothes. After taking them up north to sell, they sold very well, and she made several hundred yuan in one go.
After getting a taste of success, she continued to sell clothes.
She encountered some dangers along the way, but she managed to resolve them without any real harm.
Now, Yun Laide had earned money, and her personality had also transformed through her repeated trials.
