The Ocean's Little Tyrant: A Mermaid Baby Conquers the 80s
Chapter 395 - 389: Confirming the Class
Yun Xiaowu and the others didn’t go to their own classrooms to register first; instead, they followed Yun Jiao.
When their big group went inside, the small office was nearly bursting at the seams.
Shen Yunlian and Wang Mei urged Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe to take the boys to register.
"Why are you all crowding in here? Hurry up and take Xiao Wu and the others to register. We’re enough here for Jiaojiao."
The two women were in complete agreement on this point.
Yun Linhai said, "But..."
"Go on. We’ll come find you after Jiaojiao is done here."
Wang Mei added, "Can’t you see there are other people behind us? With so many of us crowding in here, we’re holding everyone up. Go."
Yun Xiaowu protested, "We want to watch our little sister register too."
"What’s there to see? Jiaojiao will be going to school with you from now on. You’ll have plenty of time to look at her then. Now, get going."
In the end, they were shooed away.
Yun Linhai said with disdain, "You guys know how to register on your own, right? Hurry up and find your homeroom teachers. Hold on to your own registration money."
Yun Linhe felt the same way. It wasn’t their first time registering, after all.
The two brothers squatted outside the office, looking thoroughly wronged as they waited.
It was true that there were too many people inside now; they couldn’t squeeze in.
Besides, they were big guys. If they went in, the office would feel even more cramped.
Meanwhile, in the office where Yun Jiao was registering, a grand drama of teachers fighting over a student was unfolding.
The object of their competition was, naturally, Yun Jiao.
Red Star Primary School had three first-grade classes, and as it happened, all three homeroom teachers knew of Yun Jiao.
Yun Jiao had become quite famous at the school previously, and many teachers had even made a special trip to see her.
Plus, with that memorable little face of hers, no one would mistake her after just one look.
Now that they saw her in person, of course they all wanted to get her into their own class.
"Teacher Liu, your Class Two already has eighteen students registered. Your spots are almost full. Our Class One is different—we still have plenty of room. It’s the perfect time for Student Yun Jiao to register."
"You can’t put it that way. Don’t you still have a few spots left? Besides, I’ve taught several of Student Yun Jiao’s older brothers before. We’re practically old acquaintances. It would be much more fitting for Student Yun Jiao to be in my class."
The homeroom teacher for Class Three, holding a cup of goji berry tea, interjected, "Now, now, you two, stop fighting. You are both excellent teachers who know a bit of English, so instructing your students is no problem at all. But I’m in a different boat. Our Class Three is in a pitiful state—not a single one of us teachers is good at English. Please, take pity on this old man. Let Student Yun Jiao come to our class. We can all learn and progress together!"
The other parents who had come to register their children were stunned by the scene.
"Who is that kid? Why are all three teachers fighting over her?"
"I have no idea..."
In the end, as the three teachers continued to argue and hold up the registration process, the principal had to step in and escort Yun Jiao away.
Following the principal out of the office, Shen Yunlian and the others let out a huge sigh of relief.
They were thrilled that their Jiaojiao was so outstanding, but being at the center of all that chaos was truly uncomfortable.
The three teachers had even asked them for their opinion.
What kind of opinion could they possibly give?
「The Principal’s Office」
This time, Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe also came trailing along eagerly.
The principal even poured tea for the family himself, which left the Yun family feeling overwhelmed by the special treatment.
"Student Yun Jiao, is there a particular class you’d like to join?"
’We have to hold on to this student,’ he thought. ’With a mind as sharp and agile as hers, she might end up like her third brother and get into Capital University.’
After all, she would be an alumna of their primary school. If she really got into Capital University in the future, it would be great for the school’s reputation and help attract more students.
Yun Jiao thought for a moment. "I want to go to Class Two."
There was no particular reason, other than the fact that the homeroom teacher for Class Two was the language arts teacher who had previously taught Brother Nine’s class.
She’d heard Brother Nine say that this teacher was very nice.
Since she didn’t know which class to choose, it didn’t really matter to her which one she ended up in.
’So I might as well go to a class taught by someone I’m familiar with,’ she reasoned.
The principal nodded. "Alright, then I’ll process your registration application for Class Two directly."
The registration was quick. Afterward, the principal personally took her to find the homeroom teacher of Class Two.
When the Class Two homeroom teacher heard the news, she was so excited that she immediately grabbed Yun Jiao’s little hands.
"Student Yun Jiao, don’t you worry. You absolutely won’t regret coming to our Class Two."
The other two homeroom teachers stared at her with resentful glares.
Yun Jiao pretended not to notice.
’There’s only one of me,’ she thought. ’They can’t split me into three, can they?’
After that, it was time to go to the classroom.
The classroom was no different from any other. The desks, chairs, and everything were the same as her brothers’.
She chose a seat by the window where she could look at the scenery outside.
Her eyesight was good, so she could see everything clearly even from the back row.
It wasn’t time for class to start yet, so Yun Jiao ran out of the classroom to find her dad and the others.
She also went to find her brothers.
Then they all left the school together to buy snacks.
"Jiaojiao, don’t be scared at school. If anything happens, just go find your brothers. We’re all in the same school. We don’t start trouble, but we aren’t afraid of it either."
At that time, most parents’ advice to their children was to be well-behaved at school.
It was rare for parents like Yun Linhai to give their child such advice.
Yun Xiaowu thumped his chest.
"Jiaojiao, just come find me! You can even come during class. I’d like to see anyone dare to bully you."
Shen Yunlian said, "Can’t you say something nice? How could Jiaojiao possibly get bullied?"
Yun Jiao nodded while sipping her milk tea.
’Exactly,’ she thought. ’I’m not the type to get bullied.’
After registering, the children had to start school that very same day.
Yun Linhai and the others bought some things for Yun Jiao, and after dropping the kids off at school, it was time for them to leave.
"What’s your name?"
Sitting next to Yun Jiao was a little girl. Her clothes had patches, but only a few, and they were washed very clean.
She was looking at Yun Jiao with a curious expression.
"My name is Yun Jiao. What’s yours?"
"I’m Song Zhuzhu! ’Zhu’ as in ’pearl.’ My mom says I’m the family’s precious pearl!"
She said this with a voice full of cheerfulness and pride.
Yun Jiao said, "Your family must really love you."
Song Zhuzhu nodded. "Yup! Of all the kids in our village, I’m the only girl who was sent to school."
"Were all those people who brought you to school your family? They seemed to really love you, too."
Yun Jiao also puffed out her chest proudly. "That’s right. My whole family adores me."
The two little girls looked at each other, both feeling as if they had found a kindred spirit.
After chatting for a while, Yun Jiao had a general idea of Song Zhuzhu’s family situation.
The girl truly held nothing back with Yun Jiao, telling her everything.
Song Zhuzhu was the daughter her parents had late in life, and she had five older brothers.
Before she was born, her three eldest brothers had already been married for two or three years, and they all had daughters.
Of the two younger brothers, one had been married for only a year, and the other had just gotten married.
They didn’t have any children yet.
After she was born, her sisters-in-law got pregnant one after another and all gave birth to boys.
Having a daughter so late in life, Mrs. Song already doted on her only girl. Unexpectedly, her arrival seemed to bring about the birth of one grandson after another, so everyone believed Song Zhuzhu was a bearer of good fortune.
So, thanks to Mrs. Song’s "brainwashing," her five sons, her daughters-in-law, and even her nieces and later-born nephews were all good to her.
She was a classic example of the family’s little darling.
However, the Song Family lived in a remote mountain valley, and the entire village was very poor. To this day, her young nephews were still running around with their bare butts showing.
Although her outfit was patched, it was the best the family owned.
