The Ocean's Little Tyrant: A Mermaid Baby Conquers the 80s
Chapter 366 - 363: The Brothers Got Their Parents Called
Vice Commander Lin left after giving his instructions.
Yun Jiao propped her chin on her hand. ’I’m not scared for myself, but I am worried that bastard will hurt my family.’
Frowning, Yun Jiao sighed.
’It seems being too outstanding attracts unwanted attention.’
"Jiaojiao, what are you doing? Are you eating or not?"
Yun Jiao, who had just been sighing, immediately shot up. "Coming, coming!"
For the next few days, Yun Jiao was once again busy, running back and forth to the county to see her master and teachers. She was as busy as a bee.
But when she returned home, she felt immensely satisfied looking at the treasures in her Conch Shell.
Before bed, she would carefully build a little nest for herself, arranging the pearls and gemstones in a circle around her before blissfully falling asleep.
She didn’t mind how lumpy it was; when she woke up the next day, her face was covered in imprints from her treasure.
She rubbed her eyes and put the pearls, gemstones, and Jadeite back into the Conch Shell.
"Jiaojiao, you’re taking us to school today."
Yun Jiao had just washed her face, brushed her teeth, and tied up her hair when Fifth Brother started pulling her out the door.
"Didn’t you say you wanted to check out our school?"
He gave Yun Jiao a meaningful look.
Yun Jiao thought, ’Oh, I get it. Something’s up.’
"Mom, I’m going to school with my brothers!"
"What are you going to school for?"
"Didn’t you guys say I should start school soon? I’m going to check it out first."
Yun Xiaowu said, "Don’t worry, Mom. Jiaojiao is well-behaved. She’ll be fine in the classroom. We’ll take good care of her."
Shen Yunlian eyed them suspiciously. "They let you bring guests into your classroom?"
"Sure! Several of my classmates have to take care of their younger brothers and sisters. Since their families are busy and they still have to go to school, they just bring their siblings along."
"Just let Jiaojiao get a feel for the school environment, c’mon."
In the end, Shen Yunlian agreed. She even stuffed a breakfast for Yun Jiao into her little satchel.
Yun Xiaowu and his brothers also had their lunches packed. It was too much trouble to go back and forth at noon; their entire break would be spent traveling. It was just easier to eat at school.
"Pack some for Jiaojiao, too. If you can come back for lunch, come back as early as you can. Do you need your dad to pick you up?"
Yun Jiao shook her head. "No, I can come back by myself. I’m not a three-year-old anymore!"
’I’m practically a grown-up,’ she thought.
"Okay."
Shen Yunlian wasn’t worried about Yun Jiao being bullied, so she felt quite at ease.
After all, when it came to Yun Jiao, she was usually the one doing the bullying, not the other way around.
Yun Jiao had gone out to sea by herself many times. Her family had gone from being worried sick at the start to being completely used to it now.
Carrying her breakfast and lunch, Yun Jiao walked between her four older brothers, her little satchel slung over her shoulder.
Once they were out of the village, Yun Jiao finally asked.
"Brothers, did you guys get into trouble?"
You had to hand it to her, Yun Jiao knew her brothers well.
"Ahem, well, it’s not really a big deal."
Yun Jiao stared at him with her big eyes. ’Go on, I’m waiting for the performance.’
Yun Xiaowu hung his head. "We got in a fight. We were told to bring our parents to school."
Yun Jiao circled them. "But you guys don’t look like you’ve been in a fight."
Yun Xiaowu lifted his shirt, revealing obvious bruises on his stomach and back.
"Good thing I protected my face."
Seeing the marks, Yun Jiao’s little face immediately darkened.
Yun Jiao asked, "Brother Nine, the bruises on your face... they weren’t from Brother Qi?"
Yesterday, when her brothers came home, both Brother Nine and Brother Ba had bruises on their faces.
When the adults asked, they said they’d had a squabble and fought amongst themselves.
The four brothers fought often but always made up quickly, so no one was suspicious.
It’s just that last night, all four of them got punished for it.
’Who would have thought... it wasn’t them fighting each other. Someone else did this.’
Yun Jiao was furious. "Who did it?"
Yun Xiaowu patted her head. "Don’t you worry about it. Besides, we won."
"That’s right."
Yun Xiaoqi said smugly, "Those bastards. Let’s see them try to extort money from us again."
Yun Xiao Ba hung his head. "We were just unlucky to get caught by the teacher."
Yun Jiao furrowed her little brow. "But doesn’t your teacher want to see our parents? Will it really work if I go?"
"Of course it’ll work! We’ll just tell the teacher that the grown-ups are too busy to come."
’There’s no way this is going to work,’ Yun Jiao thought.
And sure enough, when the boys’ dean of discipline saw Yun Jiao, his face went dark.
"I told you to get your parents, and you brought your little sister! Yun Xiaowu, do you think I’m joking around here?!"
Yun Jiao glanced at her brothers. ’See? I told you it wouldn’t work.’
Yun Xiaowu stuck his chin out stubbornly. "My parents aren’t home. My sister is the only one here."
The teacher retorted, "Do I look like I believe you? You want me to go to your house and check?"
Yun Xiaowu’s guilt instantly silenced him.
Yun Jiao decided to play her trump card—being a little kid. She asked with a completely innocent and guileless expression.
"Mister Teacher, why did you ask for my mommy and daddy?"
The teacher’s expression softened considerably when he addressed Yun Jiao.
He couldn’t help but glance at Yun Xiaowu and his brothers.
’How is it that the kids in this family get better-looking the younger they are?’
"Your brothers did something wrong," he said gently. "I need to talk to your mom and dad so we can make sure they don’t get into any more fights."
Yun Jiao spun around and asked, feigning anger.
"Brothers, why did you get in a fight?!"
Yun Xiaoqi quickly chimed in, "We didn’t want to! We were targeted! As soon as we left school, a group of guys we didn’t know surrounded us. They said they wouldn’t let us leave unless we gave them money."
Yun Xiao Ba nodded. "Yeah! We wouldn’t give them any, so they threatened us."
Yun Xiaojiu looked terribly wronged. "Teacher, they hit us first!"
Yun Jiao turned back to the dean of discipline. "I think my brothers are right."
The corner of the dean’s mouth twitched.
His face darkened again. "Then why didn’t you say a word when I asked you yesterday?"
Yun Xiaowu replied, "How embarrassing would that be?"
The dean looked like he wanted to hurl the book in his hand at the boy’s head.
Even Yun Jiao rolled her eyes, speechless.
"Excuse me, teacher."
A chubby, pale-faced boy about the same age as Yun Xiaowu and his brothers stood at the door, his voice trembling as he spoke.
"Come in."
"Teacher, it’s not their fault! Yun Xiaowu and his brothers... they were just trying to help me."
He kept his head down. "Those guys stopped me first. Yun Xiaowu and his brothers saw what was happening and tried to help, and... and they got stopped too. That’s when the fighting started."
Yun Jiao glanced at him. ’He’s a total pushover,’ she thought. ’No wonder he gets bullied.’
The dean of discipline looked from the new boy to Yun Xiaowu and his brothers, suddenly at a loss for words.
"So, what was going through your heads? I asked you over and over yesterday, and you wouldn’t say a thing. It got so bad I had to tell you to bring your parents, and what do you do? You bring your little sister."
Yun Xiaowu had a terribly melodramatic expression on his face. "Heroes are supposed to be low-key and righteous..."
The dean cut him off. "Oh, shut up! Have you been reading too many novels?!"
"No," Yun Xiaowu said, looking guilty.
Yun Jiao thought, ’He definitely has!’
"What about the rest of you? Why didn’t you speak up?"
Yun Xiaoqi said, "I think Fifth Brother is right! A true hero never reveals his name!"
Yun Xiao Ba added, "I do whatever Fifth Brother and Brother Qi say."
Yun Xiaojiu’s eyes welled with tears. "They wouldn’t let me say anything."
Yun Jiao: "..."
’What brand of idiot are my brothers, anyway?’ she wondered.
