The Ocean's Little Tyrant: A Mermaid Baby Conquers the 80s
Chapter 281: Wanting to Buy a Refrigerator
Caught, Liu Hong cried out in a panic.
"Da Li! Da Li, quick, save me! I swear I don’t know any Liu Wa! This has nothing to do with me!"
But no matter how she struggled, she was ultimately taken away.
Wang Dali wanted to chase after them, but an ordinary citizen is intimidated by the police.
"I... I’ll think of something."
"What is there to think about? If she’s innocent, the police will find that out during questioning and release her."
Mrs. Wang smacked her eldest son right then and there.
She was feeling absolutely fantastic.
After Liu Hong was led away, the villagers tried to ask what was going on, but Mrs. Wang gave them a vague answer.
"The police came to make an arrest. We don’t know what crime she committed either. We’ll go ask once the police have finished their investigation."
Only after the gawkers had all left did Mrs. Wang’s expression turn grim. She slapped her eldest son, who was sobbing with his face in his hands.
"Cry, cry, cry! Crying over a woman like that! Have you no backbone at all?"
"Mom, she’s the mother of two kids, I..."
"Just take a look at these first."
Wang Mei handed him the photos. "These two children are not your sons. I told you so, but you wouldn’t believe me!"
As Wang Dali held the photos and the images came into focus, his face turned ashen.
"This is a photo of Liu Wa. Take a good look. The two kids might not be his spitting image, but there’s a definite resemblance. I told you they look nothing like you.
That Liu Hong conspired with this Liu Wa to find a sucker to raise their children. Her reputation was already shady when she was a widow, and deep down, you know it.
But you had to be the fool, stubbornly believing the child in her belly was yours. You even wronged Lan Hua for her. How did I give birth to such a brainless idiot!
If you still don’t believe these photos, then you have to believe the police station, right? Liu Hong was arrested not only because of her connection to Liu Wa, but also because she’s involved with several other criminals."
Wang Dali looked as if he’d been struck by lightning.
Mrs. Wang didn’t want to look at her foolish son a moment longer. With a sigh, she turned away. "Daughter, Jiaojiao, let’s go home."
She had said all she could as his mother. If her eldest son continued to be so obstinate, then he deserved whatever suffering came his way.
Yun Jiao trotted over and took the old woman’s hand.
"Grand-aunt, don’t be sad."
Mrs. Wang’s mood instantly brightened. ’How can this little one be so sweet?’
"Okay, Grand-aunt isn’t sad. What does Jiaojiao want to eat? Grand-aunt will go home and make it for you."
"I want to eat steamed eggs."
They left Wang Dali’s house, and after returning to the old family home, Mrs. Wang promptly steamed an egg for Yun Jiao.
"Mom, don’t worry about my brother anymore," Wang Mei said. "Just let him stew in his own regret."
Mrs. Wang nodded. "I’m done worrying."
She was letting it go. ’Besides, he’s not my only son.’
The affair with Liu Hong would surely be the talk of Wang Family Village for a long time to come.
Yun Jiao and her family went home that evening.
Yun Linhai and Yun Linhe kept an eye on the situation with Liu Wa. The police station had extracted information on the other culprits from Zhao Jian Country and were preparing to make arrests.
Although Liu Hong hadn’t participated directly, she knew about some of the things Liu Wa and the others were doing. She was convicted of harboring a criminal and sentenced to one to two years in prison.
Wang Mei’s older brother finally divorced Liu Hong. Wang Dali found out where Liu Wa’s family lived and sent the two children over to them.
Wang Mei was mending a net when she got the news from her family home. Hearing it, she snorted.
"Just you wait. My brother still has plenty to regret. After all, he’s the one who drove away Sister-in-law Lan Hua for that woman."
Wang Pengfei said, stuffing his face with a mango as he sat to one side.
He hadn’t expected to go away for a bit and return to find the whole situation at home turned on its head.
That awful sister-in-law had been arrested, and the two kids weren’t even his brother’s.
He’d also gone to see his brother’s current state, and the man was an absolute wreck.
’Tsk, tsk... If you asked him, he’d say it was all well-deserved.’
’But from the looks of it, the reason they couldn’t have children really was his brother’s problem.’
"Jiaojiao, want some more?"
These were mangoes they had picked in the mountains today. They were quite large, but the pits were also massive, and the fruit was very fibrous.
"It’s stuck in my teeth."
Yun Jiao could feel the mango fibers stuck between her teeth. It was uncomfortable.
’There are too many fibers on this pit!’
"Ah, open your mouth, let me see."
Wang Pengfei used a toothpick to pick the fibers out from between her teeth.
He had some stuck in his own teeth as well.
"It’s too bad we don’t have any milk. If we did, I could make you something delicious."
"We could dice the mango or mash it into a puree, add milk, and then throw in some ice cubes. That would be so refreshing."
Yun Jiao’s eyes lit up as she listened.
"We have milk!"
She raised her little hand. They did indeed have milk at home; they had bought a whole carton.
"But we don’t have any ice."
"Sis, if you’re not short on money, why not buy a refrigerator? You can store things and even make ice. On a hot day like this, it’d be amazing to have some ice cubes or make your own popsicles."
"You could even sell them!"
Yun Xiaoqi, his face smudged with dirt, popped out from who-knows-where and added this excitedly.
"Sell popsicles, make money!"
Wang Pengfei ruffled Yun Xiaoqi’s hair. "That’s my nephew for you. Your mind works fast."
Yun Jiao chimed in, "Buy a refrigerator! Daddy and Mommy should buy a refrigerator."
She raised both hands in approval.
’If we have a refrigerator at home, does that mean I can eat lots of popsicles every day?’
Yun Jiao’s eyes sparkled.
"If Daddy and Mommy don’t buy it, Jiaojiao will."
Such was the confidence of a little heiress.
Shen Yunlian let out a small "ah." "How did we suddenly get to buying a refrigerator?"
’Their family could afford a refrigerator... It seems they really could!’
Goodness, they still weren’t quite used to Jiaojiao’s sudden wealth.
"How about we buy one after we’ve bought the boat?"
Yun Linhai and the others had never planned to rely on Jiaojiao’s money. They would buy things like a refrigerator, but they wanted to wait until the family had a boat and had earned the money themselves before doing so.
That’s why, even though Yun Jiao had the money, they had never brought up such purchases.
"We have to buy it. Buy it now."
Yun Jiao was very insistent and began counting on her fingers.
"A refrigerator, a television, a washing machine, and a motorcycle. My brothers also want bicycles, and we have to buy a sewing machine for Mommy and Auntie..."
"Alright, alright, Jiaojiao, that’s enough."
Listening to her list them off one by one, Yun Linhe and the others gasped.
’How much would it cost to buy all of those things?!’
Most importantly, the entire village would know their family was extremely wealthy.
Thieves were already eyeing the motorcycle alone. If they added everything else Jiaojiao had mentioned, Yun Linhai and the others didn’t dare to imagine how many pairs of eyes, from both inside the village and out, would be watching them.
Yun Jiao said, displeased, "Refrigerator. Buy!"
"Television. Must buy. I want to watch cartoons. I want to watch Black Cat Detective."
Everyone, stand clear. She was about to switch into spoiled-brat mode and throw a tantrum.
"And we have to buy the sewing machine for Auntie and Mommy, to make pretty clothes for Jiaojiao and my brothers. Anyway, if you don’t agree, I’ll just ride my little car to the county town myself and ask Master to take me shopping."
The Yun family: "..."
Wang Pengfei gave her a thumbs-up.
