Chapter 258: Gold

After sending the bull shark flying with a kick, Yun Jiao grabbed the man and tossed him onto a killer whale’s back.

A large chunk of flesh was clearly missing from the man’s thigh, and blood was still gushing out.

She had checked his pulse a moment ago. It was faint, but still beating. At least that proved the man wasn’t dead yet.

"Get him to the surface. As fast as you can."

The killer whale carrying the man was incredibly efficient. With a flick of its tail, it began swimming upward with the man in tow.

Yun Jiao, meanwhile, went back to beat up the bull shark.

In truth, she wasn’t needed. The killer whales had already started "playing" with the bull shark.

After being bitten a few times and slapped by their tails, the bull shark tried to flee.

But how could a single shark possibly escape the pod of killer whales surrounding it?

Yun Jiao joined the fun and gave the snarling bull shark a couple of hard slaps before leaving.

’I’ll let the killer whales have their fun.’

When she reached the surface, her father and uncle were already performing first aid on the man.

Most people who lived by the sea nowadays knew emergency first aid for drowning victims.

The village secretary had even arranged for medical personnel to demonstrate CPR, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and simple wound treatment for everyone.

It was a skill everyone living by the sea had to learn.

They also kept medical supplies on the boat, just in case.

They never expected that an outsider, not one of their own, would be the first to need them.

With Yun Linhai handling the resuscitation and Lin He bandaging the wound, they finally managed to bring the man around.

But when the man came to, the pain in his leg made him let out a pained scream.

His voice, however, was faint.

"We need to get him to a hospital, fast."

Lin He said to Yun Jiao, "Jiaojiao, we’re going to have to trouble those friends of yours."

Yun Jiao nodded.

She whistled, and two killer whales immediately surfaced.

Yun Jiao had the woman get into their boat as well.

’The boat wasn’t as important as a person’s life, of course.’

Once all the people and animals were settled, holding on tight and with the injured man secured...

Yun Jiao pointed to the stern. "Push the boat. Go!"

WHOOSH—

The two killer whales pushed in unison, and their high-speed boat ride on the open sea made its return.

The force of the acceleration was immense.

It was the woman’s first time experiencing anything like this. Even through her grief, she screamed in alarm.

But she knew they were doing this to help her and her husband, so she clamped her mouth shut despite her fear.

The killer whales were incredibly fast. They only stopped pushing as they neared the coast, letting the wooden boat’s momentum carry it a good distance further.

Once Yun Linhai and Lin He recovered from the lurch, they grabbed the oars and began to paddle the rest of the way.

"We’re at the dock! I’ll go get the village chief to bring the tractor over."

Saving the man’s life was the priority. Lin He leaped from the boat and sprinted toward the village chief’s house.

The gash on the man’s leg was massive. Even though they had wrapped it in bandages, fresh blood kept seeping out, and the bottom of their boat was turning red.

From the blood loss, the man’s face grew paler and his breathing became shallower.

The people on the dock quickly took notice of the situation.

"Someone’s hurt!"

"Quick, help get him off the boat!"

Regardless of whether they knew him, the men on the dock boarded the boat to help, carefully lifting the injured man off.

When the village chief’s son arrived with the tractor, the group worked together to lift the man aboard, and it sped off toward the town hospital.

Yun Linhai and Lin He went along, but they didn’t let Yun Jiao join them. It was too chaotic with so many people, and they wouldn’t be able to look after her.

"Jiaojiao, you head on home. Have your mom take care of the fish on the boat."

Yun Jiao agreed. Once they were gone, she heaved up the wooden chest and started chugging her way home.

Everyone’s attention was focused on the injured man, so no one noticed a certain little girl running home carrying a chest.

"Mom, Mom, I’m home..."

When Shen Yunlian came out to look, she thought for a moment that a rickety old wooden chest had grown legs and was running by itself!

A closer look revealed it was just her Jiaojiao.

The chest Yun Jiao was carrying completely blocked her upper body and face. If you weren’t paying close attention, you really would think the chest had grown legs. It was an incredibly strange and comical sight.

"Jiaojiao, where on earth did you find this beat-up chest? Why is there so much seaweed on it?"

Yun Jiao scurried into the house on her short little legs, two dogs trotting happily behind her. The moment he was home, Cat Boss leaped onto the courtyard wall to sunbathe.

"Mom, I pulled this up from the bottom of the sea."

She dropped the chest on the ground with a THUD. The flimsy lid, which hadn’t been very sturdy to begin with, shifted to the side, revealing a corner of the chest’s contents.

But that glimpse of one corner was enough to make Shen Yunlian wonder if her eyes were deceiving her.

She rubbed her eyes and peered hard into the chest.

To give her a clearer view, Yun Jiao pried off the chest’s "skullcap."

Now, the contents of the chest were completely exposed.

CLANG...

Something had fallen to the ground.

Yun Jiao looked up. It was her Little Aunt, who had just come over, a spatula still in her hand. At that moment, however, the spatula had dropped to the floor, making the sound.

She herself just stood there foolishly a short distance away, her eyes wide and her jaw hanging open wide enough to fit an egg.

"Th-th-this..."

After about ten seconds, she clapped a hand over her mouth, her other hand pointing almost shakily at the contents of the chest.

She was completely tongue-tied.

When she snapped out of it, however, her first act was to dart to the entrance, SLAM the door shut, and even bolt it from the inside.

Shen Yunlian snapped out of it as well, her voice filled with utter disbelief.
