Jin San was like a defeated rooster, looking left and right, vowing to find the person who had sneak-attacked him.

Two members of the Thunder Mercenary Corps gave Jin San a look as if he were an idiot, and said to Boss Jin’s subordinate, "We’ve caught her. Let’s go."

Boss Jin’s subordinate nodded. "Alright. What about your corps member? Should we carry him back for you?"

"No need."

The Thunder Mercenary Corps didn’t need useless members. Getting himself into this state while trying to capture a powerless girl... this Yu He was a classic example of a waste.

Shen Lu’s mouth was gagged, and she was led away, held firmly on her left and right.

Not two minutes later, Huo Qian and Lin Zhou arrived and immediately launched a rescue attempt for Shen Lu.

The two of them were slightly stronger than the two members of the Thunder Mercenary Corps, but with Shen Lu in their enemies’ hands, Huo Qian and Lin Zhou had to hold back, afraid they might hurt Shen Lu.

Suddenly, a cold glint of light shot out from behind. Huo Qian didn’t have time to turn, but fortunately, Lin Zhou noticed and blocked it for her.

But because he was distracted, the enemy in front of him slammed a fist into his chest.

Lin Zhou spat out a mouthful of blood. The blow had injured his internal organs.

Having succeeded in his sneak attack, Jin San tugged at the corner of his lips in a smirk. His target had never been Huo Qian, but Lin Zhou.

Lin Zhou’s telekinesis superpower was indeed powerful, but he was a glass cannon. As long as he was distracted, he was an easy target.

Jin San had been knocking around the Gale Mercenary Corps for years. He hadn’t learned many skills, but he was crystal clear on most of the members’ weaknesses.

"Jin San!" Lin Zhou growled his name through clenched teeth.

Jin San chuckled. "What? Want to scold me for fighting dirty? Get it straight. When have mercenaries ever cared about that stuff? All that matters is completing the mission."

With Lin Zhou injured, only Huo Qian was left.

Huo Qian was outmatched, her two fists no match for four, and she was quickly put on the defensive.

Jin San and Boss Jin’s subordinate grabbed Shen Lu. "There’s another one in the shop named Ye Fan. He’ll probably be here soon. We’re taking her and leaving first. You two hold them off."

The two members of the Thunder Mercenary Corps nodded in understanding.

Shen Lu looked worriedly at Lin Zhou, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, and wondered just how badly he was hurt.

Worse, she had no idea what fate awaited her after being taken away.

Lin Zhou tried to get up from the ground. He was the security Shen Lu had hired; he was supposed to protect her with all his might. As long as he had even a shred of fighting strength left, he had to go save her.

But that last punch had been too heavy. Forget standing up; if he wasn’t taken to a hospital for treatment within the hour, he would suffer from severe long-term complications.

’Damn it! Am I just going to watch them take Shen Lu away?!’

Just as Jin San and the others were hurrying away, three Fire Needles shot through the air.

Jin San sensed them instantly. He stopped short and dropped into a donkey roll to dodge the Fire Needles. The other two weren’t so lucky. The Fire Needles pierced them straight through the heart, and they died without even a cry.

Both men fell forward at the same time, dragging Shen Lu down with them.

’Aren’t I going to take a face-plant?’

Shen Lu thought miserably. Her arms were being pulled by the two men, making it impossible to even change her falling posture. All she could do was twist her head to the side, so at least only half her face would hit the ground.

But the expected pain never came. Instead, a choking sensation tightened around her neck.

Shen Lu opened her eyes to find herself pitched forward at a 45-degree angle. Someone had grabbed her by the collar from behind, saving her from that face-plant after all.

Shen Lu was speechless.

’Does it really have to be in this position?’

Shen Lu complained internally, her face turning bright red from lack of oxygen.

Xue Can pulled her upright and tossed her to Ye Fan, who had just rushed over.

"Xue Can?!" Jin San scrambled up from the ground, glaring at him with a sinister look. "You’d better not stick your nose where it doesn’t belong!"

Rootless flames danced around Xue Can’s palm, and the loose strands of hair on his forehead drifted about. His expression was calm, but it was clear that a towering rage was simmering just beneath the surface.

Xue Can ignored Jin San. With a point of his finger, the rootless flames shot toward Jin San like lightning.

Jin San fled for his life. He was just a Second-level Superpower User; he stood no chance against Xue Can.

With Xue Can radiating killing intent, if he didn’t run, his only option was to wait for death. He simply didn’t have what it took to fight back.

The other two members of the Thunder Mercenary Corps saw Xue Can rescue Shen Lu. They exchanged a look and tried to snatch her back.

But, as expected, they failed and ended up injured to varying degrees.

Xue Can was held up by the two for a short while, giving Jin San the chance to escape. He fled back to the small Western-style house without a backward glance.

Xue Can, his belly full of rage with nowhere to vent it, suddenly turned his gaze to the two downed Thunder Mercenary Corps members. Murderous flames began to gather in his palm once more.

"Xue-Xue Can, what are you doing!?" the Thunder Mercenary Corps members shouted in terror. "If you kill us, our commander won’t let you get away with it!"

"Heh." A cold sneer from Xue Can was their only answer.

"Boss," Little Bei came up from behind and grabbed Xue Can’s arm. "Don’t be rash. They were just hired guns, they didn’t mean to hurt Boss Shen."

"Didn’t mean to?" Xue Can said coldly. "You think the Thunder Mercenary Corps doesn’t know we took the security contract for Little Deer Cuisine? They’re deliberately provoking us!"

"Boss," Little Bei said with a look of resignation. "You’re the one who stood them up. Can you blame them for being pissed off?"

He’d already looked into it. The Thunder Mercenary Corps had accepted a capture mission; they had no intention of harming Shen Lu.

But if Xue Can killed their men, it would start a full-blown feud.

While Little Bei and Xue Can were arguing, the two Thunder Mercenary Corps members took the opportunity to slip away, leaving behind three lifeless bodies.

No one paid them any mind. The body collectors would come clean up eventually.

Huo Qian took Lin Zhou to the hospital to get his injuries treated. Xue Can wanted to take Shen Lu as well, but she refused.

"I’m not hurt, just a little shaken up," Shen Lu said. All she wanted was to go back to her own little shop. A hospital? How could that be safer than her shop?

Xue Can couldn’t smell any blood on Shen Lu, so he agreed.

They untied the ropes on Shen Lu and escorted her back to Little Deer Cuisine.

The people in the shop still didn’t know what had happened. Shen Lu hadn’t figured out how to tell them yet, so she went straight upstairs to her room.

Xue Can and the other two followed close behind.

Ye Fan went back to the third floor to continue guarding Song Zhigao. Xue Can and Little Bei entered Shen Lu’s room. They didn’t sit down, instead circling the room and checking the windows.

"Nothing seems out of the ordinary for now."

Shen Lu sat on the sofa, her brow furrowed. She gave a noncommittal "mhm" in response.

Xue Can sat on the sofa to her side. He cracked his neck and asked, "Do you know who wants to capture you?"

Shen Lu pursed her lips. "If I had to guess, I’d say it’s people from the Commerce Association."

Little Bei handed over some information. Xue Can glanced at it and said, "Your guess was right. It is people from the Commerce Association. Do you know the Commerce Association’s president, Jin Dalang?"
