Ethan stared at the notification and narrowed his eyes. This was bad.

He didn’t expect to encounter a Devil class monster at all. He had expected a horde of Beowolves, a bunch of golems, or even a flock of ravens...

But not this...

He took another step backwards and it roared.

It roared so hard that the whole chamber rumbled. Dust canw loose from the cracked ceiling, and the blue veins along the walls flickered as if the dungeon itself had flinched.

The Alpha slowly stood on its hind legs and Ethan had to raise his head to look at the beast properly.

Fully upright, it was taller than the Iron Golem by an uncomfortable margin. It was a mass of black and white fur stretched over muscle that looked like something had stuffed it into its skin.

The white fur ran across its chest and forearms while the black covered its back, muzzle and legs. Dried blood stained the fur around its jaws and down its frontside—the blood was so much that it looked like it had bathed in blood.

Its eyes were deep crimson, fixed on the three of them with a focus that made them flinch and shudder.

Ethan gritted his teeth. "This is bad."

Flame roared up Lila’s arms. "What do we do now?"

Ethan turned. "We leave. Forget about the Aetherite. It’s no use if we’re a pile of bodies."

The moment they tried to leave, the beast turned after them with a furious snarl. It dashed towards Ethan, and when the iron golem moved to intercept—

**BOOM**

They collided with a thundering sound as both the golem and the alpha was pushed back.

The shockwave knocked them back, and Ethan scrambled to his feet just in time to see the alpha charging towards them again.

**BANG**

The golem intercepted again but was shot back by a claw to its side.

Ethan’s jaw tightened. "It’s not letting us go."

Nora’s head snapped towards him. "What do we do then?"

The Raven and Bef dissolved into storage, and Ethan strengthened his posture checking the golem’s condition. "It’s pretty obvious isn’t it? We don’t really have a choice at this point."

Lila looked at him concerned. "Do we even stand a chance?"

"It’s B rank. You both are A ranks. So statistically, you’re both stronger than it." He clenched his fist. "I’m the one who’s fucked."

He glanced at his Death Energy pool.

If he was smart enough, they should be able to end this before things got ugly....

"Spread out," he said, "Don’t stay together too long. Nora, bind the legs to reduce mobility. Lila, go for the eyes and joints. Use every chance you get to kill it. We are not trading blows with that thing."

This time, Alpha dropped to all fours and charged.

The Iron Golem met it head-on.

The impact sounded like a vehicle collision— it was so hard that Ethan felt the shock through the control link like he was hit with a volt of electricity.

The golem’s heels carved a path in the floor and through the corpses, scattering limbs and viscera all over the place.

Nora threw her hands forward, and a spray of blood solidified into threads that curled around the beasts legs.

Lila followed up immediately and threw a fireball directly towards it.

The beast roared, busted the threads and leaped towards the flame. It swatted it aside and lunged towards Lila.

The golem thundered forward, caught the beast mid leap, and slammed it in a suplex so hard, it dented the floor.

The beast drove its fists towards the wolf it twisted. One fist caught ribs. The other grazed. It struck back, claws the length of butcher knives raking across the golem’s chest plate and peeling a strip of metal outward like it was soft tin.

Nora ran towards Ethan. "The threads didn’t work. Shit was too thin."

Ethan watched the golem for a moment. "Then I’ll have to ask you to put a little more into it."

Nora nodded and rushed forward with Lila following behind her.

The Alpha pushed the golem backwards and he dumped Death Energy into the golem and ordered a full strike.

The golem charged forward, caught the Alpha around the midsection and tried to drive it into the nearest pillar.

They two beast met with a boom, but the golem couldn’t move the wolf an inch.

Enraged, the Alpha grabbed the golem by its waist, lifted it up and slammed it hard on the ground.

Before the alpha could hit it again, the golem rolled to the side, and tried to sweep the beast off its feet but the alpha caught the legs and tossed it towards the ceiling.

**BOOM**

The golem fell the ground, unmoving for several seconds before Lila appeared at the side in a burst of flame.

She fired a torrent of flame that was enough to push the the beast back in a burned stagger.

"Ethan!"

"I see it!"

He forced the golem back to its feet and it rushed at the alpha again. This time, it hit it with enough force to drive it through a pillar and into the ground.

It slammed it so hard that the floor gave way, and both monsters fell into the tunnel beneath them.

Ethan looked at the hole. "After it. If we don’t kill it, we’ll be dead before we leave this place."

The girls nodded and jumped after the monsters. Nora raised her hands again and a large spray of blood reformed into a war hammer.

With a grunt, she brought it down towards the beast.

The iron golem managed to free itself just in time as the hammer slammer directly onto the wolf.

**BOOM**

The beast slammed on the ground in an explosion of dust and stone and everywhere went silent.

When they landed, Nora dropped to one knee, breathing in hard as she had already used too much of her own blood.

Ethan brushed sweat from his forehead. "Did they do it?"

The floor rumbled.

No they didn’t.

The alpha roared in rage, and the dust blew away. It exhaled and stepped forward. There was no wound on its body...

Ethan clicked his tongue and commander the Iron Golem to move forward...

However, it froze mid-motion, and its arm fell back to its sides with a dull creak.

Ethan raised an eyebrow in confusion....

Then—

"Ack—!!"

Blood sprayed from his mouth and eyes and he went down on his knees clutching his chest.

It felt like something was squeezing his heart from the inside with unbearable force.

The pain was maddening.

Lila ran to him. "Ethan, hey. Are you alright?"

He couldn’t answer. He was busy choking on his own blood. He managed to move his eyes towards the now-still golem and watched as it crumbled to the ground in a heap of metal and dust.

His eyes widened, and the system flashed in front of him.
