The Natives of This World Are Fierce
Chapter 319 - 314: The Succession War for Jilian’s Body
Chapter 319: Chapter 314: The Succession War for Jilian’s Body
BOOM—
A reservist leaped into the air, kicking a monster the size of a small house in its side.
BAM—
The monster’s face caved in and shattered around the point of impact. It toppled to the ground with heavy inertia, raising a thick cloud of dust and smoke.
ROAR...
The monster roared wildly, trying to get back on its feet, but the sound was cut short.
A graceful sword sliced its head from its body. The Magic Power suffusing the blade severed both flesh and soul in a single strike.
The two partners immediately disengaged, flashing away to another location without a moment’s hesitation.
The Soldiers in the rear watched the Demons, their faces taut with tension. They had never dealt with a paranormal event of this magnitude.
A few Officers came over to relay orders. The army’s snipers began taking up positions on high ground, selecting their targets.
Their orders were to kill on sight any Demon that broke through the containment perimeter.
Several snipers simultaneously took aim at a few Demons that had taken flight, as they were the most likely to break the perimeter.
BANG! BANG! BANG!...
With each muzzle flash, a sniper round struck its target. However, the Demons seemed incorporeal. The bullets passed right through their bodies, taking nothing but a wisp of fog with them.
BAM—
Another loud bang echoed. The Magic Steel Hand Cannon in Blaise’s left hand ejected a special shell casing, which landed precisely in a pocket he had deliberately positioned to catch it.
In the sky, the ethereal Demon had burst into roaring flames, its screams echoing as it burned to ash.
The Soldier who had been given the chewing gum watched intently through his binoculars, his focus fixed on the powerful warrior he had briefly met.
In his sights, a Knight-in-training dragged a massive Warhammer, charging forward even though there was seemingly nothing in front of him.
BAM! BAM! BOOM! BAM!...
Four or five Demons—some bizarrely shaped, others humanoid with wings—were sent flying into a single pile by the surrounding Dawn Members.
"Heh! Nice one, brothers!"
ROAR—
He let out a savage roar. As he swung the giant Warhammer, it seemed to ignite with blazing fire, making the air around it shimmer and blur from the heat.
Magic Power erupted from his arms. The Magic Steel hummed with a deep roar as he swung it like a fired cannonball. For a moment, the great hammer seemed to swell in size, trailing several afterimages.
BOOM—
To the Soldiers and agents watching the scene, a powerful shockwave erupted from the Warhammer’s point of impact, blasting away dust, air, and even severed limbs.
When their vision cleared, all the Demons that had been herded or knocked into the pile were blown to pieces.
The overwhelming battle aura made it hard for the ordinary people watching to breathe. Even the Evolvers trembled uncontrollably.
Thanks to the joint efforts of Baru, Qin Xiaoxia, and other talented members, Dawn had developed outstanding tactics and Combat Techniques.
Jilian was unlike conventional Demons. A significant portion of its offspring were difficult to kill with purely physical attacks.
Precious Magic Power couldn’t be wasted, so herding them all into one spot and smashing them with a single blow was far more efficient.
Their coordination was methodical, matching strength with strength. The more powerful foes were handled by Official Knights or Skywalkers, while the particularly strange and tricky ones were dealt with personally by Magic Controllers.
The occasional gunshots from the military also provided effective support for Dawn’s operation. Of course, a shooter had to be absolutely confident before pulling the trigger, or the risk of friendly fire would be immense.
"Just as I thought. These things born from Jilian’s body are a disorganized rabble. They even kill each other."
Hearing the relaxed tone in her Mentor’s voice, Su Su began to relax as well.
"They’re all competing with each other, after all. And their minds were probably scrambled when they were formed."
She used a small cotton swab like a towel, gently dabbing the heads of the two poor little things in her Mentor’s palm. While massaging them to ease their pain, she "unintentionally" brushed against her Mentor’s palm from time to time.
Each time, a thrill would run through her and her breathing would subtly quicken. ’I’m so bad!’ she thought, chastising herself internally.
Without realizing it, her lips had turned a deep, flushed red. The mix of excitement and shame made her thighs press together beneath her robes.
...
Luna had woken up at some point. She’d borrowed a pair of binoculars and found a high vantage point. With her superhuman eyesight, she could see everything with perfect clarity, as if she were right there on the battlefield.
But she had no eyes for any of the other Guardians. There was only one powerful being, draped in wings of blood.
Everywhere he passed, the surrounding Demons were torn to shreds.
A massive, four-to-five-meter-tall Demon also had wings. Its face contorted in pain from time to time, and its right arm and legs seemed weak, but its left arm swung like a gale, swatting away several reservists in one go.
It shook its head, regaining a sliver of clarity from its earlier chaotic state. Starlight began to glow on its wings, and its body, which had previously relied on brute strength, began to suffuse with the aura of Magic Power.
But just then, a blood-red figure appeared, standing on the back of its neck.
Brown’s arm had completely transformed into a terrifying Claw of red crystal. In a blur, it ripped into the back of the large Demon’s neck, sending blood spraying as a pale white section of its spine was torn clean out.
"Guh..."
A terrifying shriek rose to an explosive volume as the golden-red blood within its body gushed out like a geyser. In just a few seconds, it had all surged out and converged behind Brown, forming a cloud of blood.
Its massive body slowly collapsed, never to rise again.
Far away in the encampment, Luna’s eyes were filled with sparkling stars.
She screamed internally.
’AHHHH! He’s so cool! He’s so handsome!’
The battle had started quickly, but it ended even faster. In less than five minutes, there wasn’t a single Demon left standing on the field.
Corpses and blood were everywhere. It wasn’t that the number of Demons was truly that overwhelming; rather, a few of the larger ones had created gore-filled maelstroms.
Aside from a few who made a conscious effort to stay clean, nearly every Dawn Member was drenched in blood. Some looked as if they had taken a bath in it.
But wherever Brown passed, all the blood—from the ground and from people’s bodies—streamed toward him, causing his two blood-red wings to grow thicker and larger.
Much of the blood began to steam, as if burning around him in a crimson flame.
The more he killed, the stronger he became, as the Magic-Power-infused blood replenished his energy. For the first time, the terrifying figure of Red Demon Brown was indelibly seared into the minds of many Dawn Members.
Watching the battle below die down, Qin Xiaoxia handed the two little ones to Su Su. Then, his Magic Power erupted once more, instantly engulfing the Celestial Pillar at his feet.
SHHH—
The massive pillar vanished once again, leaving a huge hole in the right arm of Jilian’s body. A cacophony of monstrous shrieks and roars erupted from within.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!...
More than thirty Silent Knight trainees stood at the mouth of the hole, wielding pistol- and Long-Spear-shaped Magic Steel Hand Cannons, and fired wildly into the opening.
In the sky, a dense cloud of blood-red crystals ignited with crimson flames, then shot down into the hole like a volley of rockets.
Blood splattered everywhere. The agonized screams lasted for several minutes before silence finally fell.
Qin Xiaoxia weighed the two strange silver pillars in his hand. They had looked solid, but they felt strangely resilient and almost soft to the touch. He couldn’t identify the material—it was neither metal nor jade—but it was incredibly heavy.
They probably weren’t weapons, and they were a far cry from the Endless Abyss, but they did possess some similar properties.
He had thought that acquiring Jilian’s body was the greatest prize, but it seemed these six pillars were a considerable bonus.
One by one, the six great pillars vanished. Each time, a new swarm of Demons would pour from the hole left in Jilian’s body.
Some were bizarre and hideous, while others looked just like the two sisters in Su Su’s palm. There were even some that bore a closer resemblance to Jilian than the two little ones did.
Most were in a state of confusion, their minds muddled, acting purely on instinct. They died in the ensuing melee before they could even gather their Magic Power.
The most dangerous moment came when they removed the seal from the back of the head. A being of pure Magic Power with shimmering hair flew out, immediately erupting with immense power.
It—she—seemed to sense the danger. With no intention of fighting for Jilian’s body or getting entangled in battle, she shot toward the sky the moment she appeared.
But it was lashed out of the air by the Endless Abyss. In that instant, Brown and the Holy Spirit, along with the whip, severed its three wings. The moment it hit the ground, it was swarmed by five Silent Knights and dozens of trainees, dying an unceremonious death.
"Hah... hah..." "Cough, cough..."
"Spit... Damn it, I chipped a tooth!"
"Fuck, my leather jacket is ruined!"
"These Anti-Magic Bullets are awesome! Good thing they’re reimbursable this time. I got to fire as many as I wanted!"
"Heh heh, that was a great fight. Totally worth all these broken bones."
Aside from the exceptionally powerful ones, most of the Dawn Members were exhausted. Continuously unleashing Combat Techniques infused with Magic Power was incredibly draining. They weren’t Magic Creatures, after all.
One by one, they knelt, stood, or simply collapsed amidst the mountain of corpses and sea of blood.
Jilian’s body lay quietly on the ground, like a giant maiden bathed in blood, lying naked and waiting to be violated.
The members of Dawn had just received word: the spirit of the Otherworldly Ancient Demon Jilian had already disintegrated beneath the seal. Now, only its immortal body remained.
On the perimeter, some of the Soldiers who had witnessed the battle bent over and vomited. The rancid stench of gore now permeated the air.
In peacetime, not every Soldier gets a baptism by fire, and the cruelty and gore of the battlefield far exceeded their imaginations.
A major lit a cigarette. With a faint tremor in his hand, he brought the filter to his lips and took a deep drag, letting the nicotine-filled smoke roil in his lungs. A moment later, he exhaled, as if breathing out his own fear along with the smoke.
"We’d better get used to this, and fast. This is a war against alien invaders. There’s no compromise. It’s kill or be killed."
The battle was over. The Dawn members hadn’t escaped unscathed, but thanks to their teamwork, they had many injuries but a zero percent fatality rate. Besides, with Brown and the Holy Spirit present, not to mention the miraculous Flower of Life, recovering from their wounds wouldn’t be a major issue.
Qin Xiaoxia and Su Su stood near Jilian’s head. With all six Celestial Pillars removed, the two little ones in Su Su’s palm had regained consciousness.
They stared at the blood-soaked battlefield with lingering fear and disbelief, their bodies trembling with a mixture of terror and excitement.
By now, they could feel a powerful resonance with Jilian’s body.
"Unbelievable, isn’t it?"
Qin Xiaoxia leaned closer to them and said with a smile.
"But don’t get carried away."
The two Little Ancient Demons stared blankly at this terrifying man. As they resonated with Jilian’s aura, they saw it... a malice that blotted out the sky.
