The Natives of This World Are Fierce
Chapter 311 - 307: The Advent of the Child of Destiny
Chapter 311: Chapter 307: The Advent of the Child of Destiny
As the Demon Eye replied respectfully, an oval portal made of pale gray light waves slowly materialized a short distance in front of Qin Xiaoxia.
The Demon Eye’s Magic Power could be felt surging like a tsunami into every corner within sight.
"Master Sage, the Lobelica Magic Mirror is not yet fully stable. I must constantly maintain my Magic Power to reinforce the mirror’s surface on that side. After your student goes through, it would be best to hide the Magic Mirror to avoid attracting other Magic Creatures."
The Akenis are the native species of Lobelica, which is also where the merchant guild is located.
This was the second time Hama Pi had seen the Eye of Void. A terrifying Magic Creature of this caliber was already the stuff of legends. In some stories, it could easily be ranked on the level of a Demon God.
Yet, this was the "Eye of Dawn." The true depths of the organization were far more terrifying than anyone imagined, but such a solid backer also gave Hama Pi boundless confidence.
Hearing the Demon Eye’s words, Hama Pi chimed in before his Mentor could even speak.
"Demon Eye, please rest assured. If something terrifying targets the Magic Mirror, I will shatter it immediately, even if it costs me my life!"
After he spoke, the Akenis distinctly felt the gaze of the giant eye in the distance rest on him for two seconds before shifting to the Master Sage.
"If you encounter a force you cannot resist, flee into the Magic Mirror!"
With this single sentence, the Demon Eye had responded to the Akenis’s words. It also distinctly sensed that, just as it had hoped, a smile touched the Master Sage’s lips.
’Not bad. Not bad at all. The Demon Eye is actually learning to suck up on its own. And since it also increases my student’s safety, what reason do I have not to smile?’
Leading the clearly apprehensive Ear-Piercing Monster to the gray mirror, Qin Xiaoxia first took out the Endless Abyss and gently poked the surface with the long whip’s sharp handle.
A powerful resistance met him. At the same time, a faint grinding sound, like pressure on a pane of glass, forced him to immediately stop his attempt.
As the Demon Eye frantically struggled to maintain it with all its might, tremors and aftershocks of Magic Power rippled out. It was a good while before the gray mirror’s surface finally fell silent.
That little test must have consumed a great deal of the Demon Eye’s Magic Power, but Qin Xiaoxia heard no complaint from it.
His attention returned to Hama Pi.
"Take this step, and you will have to weather the sun and storms of the world alone."
"You must remember, your homeland may be dilapidated and filthy, but it is the land that nurtured you. A person or a race that forgets its roots has no Hope."
"When a people is scattered and their roots are severed, even if remnants of the population survive, they have already lost their soul."
"Remember, there will always be ignorant people. Some may still have a conscience, while others are beyond saving. They will always exist. You cannot save everyone. A hero must also know their own limits. Salvation cannot be achieved in one fell swoop. The outcome is always more important than the process!"
His Mentor sometimes said inexplicably profound things, and his Akenis student often only half-understood. At this moment, however, Hama Pi clearly understood the meaning behind his Mentor’s eyes and words.
It was both invaluable advice to guide him on the path ahead, and an expression of his Mentor’s deep care.
Not knowing what to say in return, Hama Pi just nodded over and over, his eyes stinging.
Qin Xiaoxia smiled. He had been trying to teach a serious lesson, but he had unknowingly gotten a bit sentimental.
"This is the last lesson I’ll teach you before you leave. Bravery is relative. It’s not so much an emotion as it is a choice."
"Fear isn’t terrifying, nor is it shameful. There’s no need to doubt your own resolve because of it. In fact, it’s proof of your caution."
He pushed him forward.
"Go on, and don’t look back. As my student, don’t you dare embarrass me, and don’t embarrass Dawn!"
The Magic Power within the Ear-Piercing Monster’s body roiled as he clenched his small fists. He knew his Mentor was watching him. He knew the Demon Eye was focused on him.
’Fear isn’t shameful! Fear isn’t shameful! Fear isn’t scary, it’s not scary!’
Suppressing the urge to turn and look back with all his might, he took a resolute step forward and vanished into the gray mirror.
’Attaboy. He really didn’t turn back, damn!’
A smile bloomed on his face. Whatever Qin Xiaoxia’s initial intentions were, at this moment, he could declare with a clear conscience that he had cultivated an Akenis hero.
All in all, it was an incredibly fulfilling feeling.
This journey, even in a fantastical Otherworld, was destined to be long and arduous if history was any guide. Perhaps this was the last time he would ever see this student.
...
Lobelica World, also known to the Akenis as the Realm of Passage. Compared to the more famous worlds, its name didn’t ring much of a bell, but it was at least recognizable.
Correspondingly, the Akenis, a race renowned for its commerce, occupied a niche in this world.
「A few minutes earlier, when the handle of the Endless Abyss’s whip touched the gray light.」
In an Akenis village out in the wilds, inside a round stone building, the only valuable item in the room—a Crystal mirror—suddenly began to vibrate violently.
RUMBLE~~~
The entire stone house was shaking, and even the ground trembled slightly.
The only one inside, an elderly Akenis, fled in terror. Not all Akenis could awaken Magic Power, and even for those who did, it was usually quite weak. Throughout history, those who could complete the Elfification of body and soul were rare, and this elderly Akenis was clearly just an ordinary individual.
After the tremors subsided and vanished, and after another long while, the elderly Akenis cautiously returned to the house, preparing to re-examine the mirror.
