Chapter 291: Chapter 287: Won’t Survive, Won’t Survive

Even under orders from the Master Sage of Dawn, this woman of indeterminate age had still put everyone in their place at the hospital, including Tao Xingzhi.

She was the type who wouldn’t show deference even to the nation itself.

Psychological experts analyzed her as the type of person who holds a serious grudge. A very vindictive woman!

Although the Witch had made an indelible contribution by bridging the gap between the nation and Dawn, the consensus within the Special Security Team was that Tao Xingzhi’s personal charisma deserved most of the credit.

"I hate having guns pointed at me."

Her tone was flat and emotionless, yet it made the air crackle with tension.

The words weren’t a threat, yet everyone felt an intense sense of danger.

All seven guns were slowly lowered.

Fearing his comrades didn’t recognize who they were facing, the tech agent immediately spoke up.

"Lady Witch, greetings. We’re from the Special Security Team. We are not your enemies."

The mysterious woman glanced at him, a silent acknowledgment of his greeting.

"I know who you are. Otherwise, would I be wasting my breath on you?"

His words served as a reminder, and the other agents who hadn’t realized immediately understood who stood before them.

Of course, Du Peipei knew exactly who this was—and she understood the situation far better than the tech agent.

After the Battle of Kyoto, she had spoken with the more approachable Crystal Ball Witch.

The Crystal Ball Witch had jokingly mentioned an internal Dawn Association ranking of "People You Should Never Provoke."

First place, naturally, went to the Master Sage. Second was the never-seen Eye of Dawn. Third, surprisingly, was the equally stunning Red Demoness. And fourth was this very Female Demon.

This was a ranking within the Dawn Association, an organization teeming with hidden masters. Even the Witch herself had admitted she didn’t know the full extent of the Association’s power.

As Evolvers with keen Perception, Du Peipei and her team had already noticed that they were being ignored by ordinary people.

Drawing guns was a major commotion, yet none of the passersby so much as glanced in their direction.

Even knowing how dangerous the woman before her was, duty compelled Du Peipei to brace herself and attempt to negotiate.

"Lady Witch, Zhang Yi is a murder suspect. We’re under orders to apprehend him. Furthermore, he is likely a Type-2 Evolver, and there might be an undiscovered mutation event..."

"He’s not a Type-2, and there are no Demons in this city. You can go."

Du Peipei fell silent for a few seconds before pressing on, unwilling to give up.

"But he still killed someone!"

The Witch was dangerous, but she was also trustworthy. Since she said he wasn’t a Type-2, then he definitely wasn’t.

And in the short time they had been here, Du Peipei had already ruled out the possibility of Zhang Yi being a Type-1.

That meant he could only be a Type-3.

A mysterious Type-3 awakened Evolver. To this day, the entire Special Security Team had only one.

That was Lieutenant Colonel Huang Jiutian, also known as "Radar," who held the number one spot on Hua Country’s Evolver rankings.

The Special Security Team, and indeed many of the nation’s combat-ready military units, knew exactly how valuable such an Evolver was.

Dawn deserved respect, but Du Peipei couldn’t stomach letting them take Zhang Yi just like that.

She believed the upper echelons of the Special Security Team felt the same way.

A smile touched Su Su’s red lips. In her Witch state, her emotions were far more unrestrained than usual.

"I know you, Du Peipei."

This woman’s strength was just shy of a reserve member of the Silent Knight Order. For the Special Security Team, which lacked access to Vermilion Fruits, Spawning Moss, and Flowers of Life, she was a rare talent indeed.

"Ranked 4th on the Hua Country Evolver list, known within the Special Security Team as the White Fist Iron Maiden. A few of the younger generation of agents privately call you White Fist Tifa. Due to the confidential nature of agent files, many who don’t know better consider you their dream girl, even keeping a photo by their bedside for... emergencies..."

Her voice, for once, held a hint of a smile, laced with playful mockery.

"Hm!?"

Du Peipei’s expression flickered. She subconsciously glanced at her five male colleagues, all of whom immediately sported expressions of utter innocence.

"I know more about you than you know about yourselves. And the same is true for Zhang Yi."

Hearing the Witch’s words, Du Peipei was suddenly reminded of Dawn’s Crystal Ball Witch. It seemed unlikely that she was the only one in Dawn with the power of divination and foresight.

"He is going to die..."

The words startled everyone. The flicker of anger in Du Peipei’s heart was instantly extinguished.

’Is this Witch so righteous she despises all evil? Or was Zhang Yi’s dead girlfriend her friend? No, that’s not right. If that were the case, the girl probably wouldn’t have died in the first place.’

Several agents glanced at Zhang Yi and found him completely stupefied. Du Peipei and the others quickly noticed his strange state.

Ever since the mysterious woman appeared, Zhang Yi had been silent, not making a sound despite the lingering, sharp pain in his crotch.

The colors emanating from the mysterious woman known as the Witch practically blinded him.

A rich blue burned and steamed around her, a crystal-clear, distorted mist coiled within it. These colors were deeper than the night sky and more dazzling than any light.

Her body itself was a humanoid black hole, utterly devoid of light. Yet, for a fleeting moment, he’d have the illusion of seeing a pair of eyes that pierced straight to his soul, as if they could see through his very being.

’She’s not human at all!! These "cops" around me aren’t even on the same level as her!!’ Zhang Yi thought in terror.

Hearing he was going to die was what finally snapped him out of it.

"I... I didn’t mean to kill anyone, I..."

As he stammered out a defense in his panic, Su Su spoke again.

"You will die, but not because you’re a killer. And Captain Du, the Witch thinks highly of you, and she happens to be my best friend, so I’d rather not get rough with you."

As she spoke, the seven agents felt the oppressive pressure around them lessen significantly. At least they could breathe without difficulty now.

"Zhang Yi will die not because I want to punish him, nor is Dawn bored enough to fight you for law enforcement rights. It’s because he won’t be able to handle his own eyes."

’His eyes?’

’My eyes?’

Zhang Yi, Du Peipei, and the others were all stunned for a moment.

The latter was confused but pensive, while the former, amidst his fear, seemed to have a flash of understanding.

"Zhang Yi doesn’t have much time left. If you take him, he’s finished. He’ll just... pop... and that’s it!"

The Witch extended her right hand and made an exploding gesture.

Earlier tonight, while reading a Magic Pattern Scroll, Su Su had suddenly felt a tremor from her Crystal Ball as the environment itself began to resonate with her.

This had never happened before. Not daring to ignore it, Su Su followed the feeling, using it as an ethereal medium to perform a divination, which immediately led her to Zhang Yi.

His awakened Ability and its potential consequences were so unique that when Qin Xiaoxia learned of it, he immediately sent Su Su to find Zhang Yi based on her divination.

They also prepared to deal with the Special Security Team.

Just then, the agent handling communications in the vehicle saw a new order come through from headquarters. As instructed, he opened the voice channel.

Tao Xingzhi’s voice came through.

"Xiaodu, stand down. Let Dawn take Zhang Yi."

"Yes, sir!"

Regardless of her own feelings, Tao Xingzhi had given the order, and Du Peipei had no choice but to obey.

Du Peipei reluctantly escorted Zhang Yi over. The moment the Witch grabbed his arm, they both vanished before her eyes.

The street was once again filled with strolling pedestrians and people hurrying along. The only thing out of the ordinary was the frequent second glances they drew, thanks to the two strikingly beautiful women among the seven agents.

They got in their vehicle, started the engine, and quickly drove away.

The direct line of communication on the computer was still open. Du Peipei was still plagued with questions about the Witch’s words and the order from above.

"Chief, we..."

Tao Xingzhi knew Du Peipei was full of questions. Back at headquarters, he was holding a test tube filled with a black liquid. Mr. Yan had delivered it two days prior during a visit to the Special Security Team. There were two tubes in total, which he’d described as a personal New Year’s gift to the team.

The potion had caused an uproar in the Special Security Team’s research institute over the last two days. Just today, they had confirmed the terrifying nature of its effects.

Mr. Yan had called it Dawn’s "No. 1 Magic Potion." He said that while it was a basic formula, all Magic Potions were incredibly precious.

Each vial held three doses. Even after setting aside a sample for research, they had enough to create six powerful warriors.

However, aside from a select few, the other agents didn’t know about the existence of the Magic Potion.

"Xiaodu, the dividends gained from an appropriate concession are much greater than an unknown quantity like Zhang Yi."

After saying this, Tao Xingzhi cut the communication.

His statement encompassed both practical benefits and the broader relationship with Dawn. The personal rapport between Mr. Yan and Tao Xingzhi was one of those hidden dividends.

Negotiating with Dawn was unlike a typical political game, and Hua Country was gradually developing its own unique approach.

...

On a street in Shenzhen City, Su Su was dragging Zhang Yi along by his collar. The pedestrians and scenery flew past in a blur. He couldn’t feel any wind resistance, but he knew they were moving incredibly fast.

"Um... Lady Witch, if I go with you, I won’t die, right..."

Su Su glanced at him, a smirk playing on her lips.

"I only said you wouldn’t be finished if you came with me. I never said you wouldn’t die!"
