Chapter 447: Chapter 210: “He Snuck a Bite Behind Your Back?

“Mr. Author, slow down…”

“You’re going too fast! I can’t take it anymore…”

On a rugged mountain path, two figures, one in front of the other, zipped through the air at low altitude.

After traveling for three days straight, Elise was so exhausted her vision was starting to blur. She truly couldn’t understand how Sean, who was only a Tier Three, possessed such terrifying stamina. He had more endurance than even her, a Tier Six. ‘If we actually spent a night together,’ she thought, ‘wouldn’t he wear me out so much I couldn’t get out of bed?’

“We can’t go any slower,” Sean replied from ahead. “They left several days before we did. If we don’t speed up, they’ll reach their destination before we even get close.”

In truth, Sean was exhausted too.

He and Elise had barely rested over the past three days.

After leaving the town, they had initially followed a trail of faint footprints. But it rained on the second day, washing the tracks away completely. From then on, they could only follow the main road, stopping in the nearest towns to ask for leads. They were investigating and searching as they traveled, like detectives hunting a murderer. The pace was grueling; in three days, they had slept a grand total of only six hours.

Yet even with all that effort, the last time they’d managed to get news of the cavalry troop, they were told that Fan Ke’er and his men had already left two days prior.

That meant they were still a full two days’ journey behind Fan Ke’er.

Those guys weren’t moving any slower than he and Elise.

If their targets were moving this fast, the pursuers had to be even faster.

“Why don’t we just go straight to Austin Castle and forget about this?” Elise said, looking completely fed up.

It wasn’t that she was chickening out or wanted to retreat. It was just that they had been chasing for so long, she was starting to feel like she and Sean were on a fool’s errand. If they could actually kill Fan Ke’er after catching him, or steal the item and give the Church Court a nice surprise, she would have no complaints. The exhaustion would be worth it as long as there was something to show for it.

The problem was, they couldn’t kill Fan Ke’er.

The man was a bona fide Grand Mage. If it came to a real fight, the chances of her and Sean getting sent to their graves together were close to one hundred percent. It meant they were traveling all this way, working themselves to the bone to track him down, only to deliver their own heads to him on a platter…

Just thinking about it made Elise feel like a complete masochist.

They might as well go to Austin Castle and investigate Chris’s situation.

Given their relationship with Elvire, they might even be able to be guests of the Blazing Angel Family.

‘She’d heard for a long time that Elvire’s sister, Daeli, was not only beautiful and kind but also of a high Tier. This trip to the Medanzo Flame Territory was the perfect chance to see for herself what kind of woman could leave even Mr. Blake completely smitten…’

But the moment Sean heard Elise mention Daeli, he had a knee-jerk reaction and refused. “We’re not going.”

Elise protested, “I wasn’t finished.”

Sean said, “Doesn’t matter. We’re still not going.”

Elise: “?”

“Why not?”

“Because… our statuses aren’t appropriate.”

Sean casually made up an excuse.

“Our statuses aren’t appropriate?” Elise asked, confused. “What’s not appropriate about them?”

“Think about who Daeli is,” Sean explained, sounding perfectly reasonable. “Besides being Elvire’s sister, she’s the current Clan Leader of the Blazing Angel Family and one of the few Grand Dukes in the Empire. With a status that noble, can a couple of nobodies like us just waltz in and meet her?”

“Of course we can,” Elise said with a sly smile. “All you have to do is flash your status as the son-in-law of the Blazing Angel Family.”

“I won’t.”

‘I’ll die a much more gruesome death if I do that,’ Sean thought. Out loud, however, he declared righteously, “Am I the kind of man who climbs the ladder by relying on a woman? If I drop Miss Flame Crow’s name everywhere I go, what will her clan think of me? I’m not going over there just to humiliate myself.”

“Is that so?” Elise smelled a lie, and a meaningful smile touched her lips. “Mr. Author, is it a matter of not *wanting* to… or not *daring* to?”

Sean: “?”

“What’s there for me to not dare?”

“You, on the other hand.”

Sean snorted. “If the Blazing Angel Family finds out you’re lusting after their young lady’s man, you won’t be in for a good time.”

“I’m not afraid.” Elise blinked. “I’d happily die for a night of passion. As long as you let me sleep with you once, I’d welcome death.”

Sean rolled his eyes. “Weren’t you just dead tired? How do you still have the energy to think about things like that?”

“Of course,” Elise said, speeding up to catch him and hugging his arm intimately. “No matter how tired I get, the mere thought of a ‘deep exchange’ with you fills me with Power.”

“Alright, then you can spend some time thinking about what positions we’ll use tonight,” Sean said.

Elise froze for a second, then her face lit up with delight. ‘He didn’t argue back!’ she thought excitedly. ‘Did my teasing finally get to him? Is he really planning on taking me tonight?’

“Finished thinking?” Sean asked again.

“I have,” Elise said, her eyes turning sultry. “I’ve come up with over a dozen positions. Mr. Author can take his pick when the time comes.”

But then Sean’s tone shifted. “Pick? What’s there to pick?”

“Doesn’t thinking about this stuff fill you with Power?”

“Since you’ve thought about it and you’re full of energy, let’s get back on the road.”

Elise: “?”

“Keep up.”

As if wind had sprouted from his feet, Sean shot forward with a WHOOSH.

Elise was livid. ‘After all that talk, he was just messing with me?’

That bastard!

“You just wait! Sooner or later, I’m going to devour you!”

Elise vowed viciously.

Then she hurried to speed up and follow Sean.

「Soon.」

The two of them arrived in a small town.

This was already the seventh town they had passed through on their journey.

Sean had the routine down by now. As soon as they entered the town, he made a beeline for the market and found a street-side vendor to question.

The markets in these places were like newsstands in a city. The vendors might not be professional information brokers, but if something happened in town, they were almost certain to know about it.
