The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 392 185: A Blunder

"To ally yourself with a bunch of damned prey…"

"Bofunova, have you considered the consequences of your actions?!"

Carlos's voice was sharp and severe.

The Witch Hunt Operation was an initiative of the Church Court. His plan to kill Sean was simply following that directive, making it perfectly reasonable and justified. Therefore, Bofunova's actions were not just a betrayal of him, but a betrayal of the Church Court. If he reported this, the entire Kovloki Family would face dire consequences!

"No, no, no, Mr. Carlos, you are mistaken."

Bofunova appeared behind him at just the right moment, a mocking smile on her face. "First of all, you don't represent the Church Court."

The High Nobles truly valued by the Church Court would never be sent to a place like a Farm World to do grunt work. In other words, any family assigned to a Farm World was not a major house. At most, they might be a Viscount. If they were eliminated, they were eliminated. As long as the reason given for their demise was plausible, the Church Court wouldn't give it a second thought.

"Secondly, you're not getting out of here."

Things had already been set in motion. Now that Carlos was here and knew about her "cooperation" with Sean, she wouldn't let him leave today, even if Sean didn't kill him.

'Once I return to the New World, I have plenty of ways to explain things to the Church Court.'

The Church Court wouldn't make a fuss over a mere Tier Six and launch a serious investigation into a true Grand Mage.

"Good! Good! Excellent!" Carlos was so furious he started to laugh. "Bofunova, you're digging your own grave!"

"Do you really think the few of you are enough to keep me here?"

'I didn't come alone.'

"Men!" Carlos roared.

"Coming."

The reply came in a sweet, girlish voice.

Yisha walked in from outside, grinning, and casually dropped an unconscious man on the floor. He'd been dangling from her hand like a chick.

Following her were Elvire, Elise, Genduo, and Shar.

Each of them was similarly hauling unconscious men in suits, their conditions unknown.

THUD… THUD…

They tossed the men into a heap on the floor.

Yisha clapped the dust from her hands and gave Carlos a devilish smile. "Mr. Carlos, you were looking for your men?"

"All twenty of them are here."

Carlos: "???"

He stared, wide-eyed. "You… you all…"

'How is this possible?!'

His twenty bodyguards were all genuine Tier Six experts. Even if they couldn't beat a renowned prey like Flame Crow in a one-on-one fight, they shouldn't have been defeated so decisively and so Silently—he hadn't even heard the sound of a struggle!

Meanwhile, Shar noticed the girl playing the piano in the corner of the living room. Her eyes widened, and she gasped, "Dorunla?!"

The notes from the piano stopped abruptly.

Dorunla was just as shocked. "Shar?"

"What are you doing here?!"

Shar wanted to ask the same question.

Dorunla had only told her that she was coming to Sonaros State, but not when, and certainly not with whom. Dorunla was afraid of implicating Shar; her plan had been to contact Shar only after she had escaped and was somewhere relatively safe.

Neither of them had expected to run into the other at Kovloki Castle.

Elise, however, seemed to understand. She smiled knowingly. "So, after all this, it turns out we all share the same enemy."

It was obvious that the person who had forced Dorunla into a corner, compelling her to flee her home for a distant land, was none other than the Mr. Carlos standing before them.

When Carlos saw that the two knew each other, he inevitably jumped to the wrong conclusion.

He glared at the girl by the piano. "So you're a mole, too!"

"And to think I trusted you so much! I brought you with me, gave you opportunities to meet important people!"

He had brought Dorunla with him to Sonaros State not just because he wanted to hear her play the piano. There was another reason. If things went smoothly, he planned to fund a solo piano recital for her in the largest city in Sonaros State. While part of his motive was to show off his exceptionally talented personal pianist, the biggest beneficiary would have been Dorunla herself.

It would have been the first step for Dorunla to go from Krim State to the world stage, the first step toward fulfilling her dream.

This time, he had genuinely been thinking of Dorunla's best interests, treating her like a true friend. He was just so used to being domineering that he never explained his intentions. But as it turned out, this "woman" was one of Sean's people all along!

'From the very beginning, it was all a scam!'

'Those damned Wizards exploited my love for music and the piano. They had Dorunla—a man disguised as a woman—perform at the Royal Opera House to catch my attention, allowing 'her' to stay by my side and spy on my movements.'

'My falling into this trap today… it's the result of a long-term, multi-faceted, and intricate plot!'

Carlos gnashed his teeth. "You people really went to great lengths to set me up!"

Dorunla: "…"

Sean: "…"

'This guy seems to be overthinking things a bit.'

'But whatever. If he wants to overthink, let him. I can't be bothered to explain.'

Dorunla, on the other hand, wanted to offer an explanation—she simply didn't like the word "mole." But Shar stopped her with a look, discreetly taking out her phone and signaling for her to keep quiet and check her messages.

Sean paid no mind to the interaction between the two women. He looked at Carlos and said with a smile, "Actually, I'm quite curious about something, Mr. Carlos."

"Whether I was plotting against you or not, you didn't notice a thing until today. So that can't be the reason you came looking for trouble with me."

"So, what did I do to offend you? What made it worth hiring Miss Bofunova to deal with me, and even traveling all the way from Krim State to Sonaros State just to capture me?"

He hadn't come out of the bar earlier because he had been waiting—waiting for Carlos to reveal the reason himself.

'After all, that's how it's always written in novels—or at least, that's how I'd do it. The villain always likes to explain their motives to the hero before making their move, so their opponent can die knowing why.'
