The Mirror Master
Chapter 203: Your Head
Lu Bai headed east through the city. As he passed Wangjiang Tower, he subconsciously stopped and looked over.
In a daze, it was as if he could see that limping figure again, carrying two buckets of slop on a shoulder pole.
Shi Tianlei shouldn’t have had to go through that.
The same went for Xue Chen.
But Xue Chen, in pursuit of the truth, in the name of the thousands of refugees from the Shi and Mo Countries, had given his life.
And Shi Tianlei, in trying to get justice for Xue Chen, had also died here.
Lu Bai didn’t know what kind of pressure and torment Shi Tianlei had endured these past few days.
He had to be careful and cautious every day, as if walking on thin ice.
He hadn’t even dared to stay by his child’s side, only able to see them secretly for a moment each night.
He had taken out the only two things he had on him.
All he wanted was to seek justice for Xue Chen.
Was that too much to ask?
Perhaps, one day in the future, the truth would come to light.
Perhaps, one day, Marquis Jingzhong, the Fujiao Gang, and all the rest would be punished.
Perhaps, one day, the deaths of Shi Tianlei and Xue Chen would be accounted for.
But Lu Bai didn’t want to wait anymore.
Justice delayed is justice denied.
Rage ignited in his heart, and a vicious resolve took hold!
’Since justice can’t be sought, I’ll use my sword to carve out a bloody path to it!’
’You people have power that reaches the heavens, enough to blind and deafen the world. I’d like to see if you can still suppress this after tonight!’
Just then, Lu Bai seemed to sense something and looked up instinctively.
On the highest floor of Wangjiang Tower, a young man in brocade robes stood leaning against the railing, looking down on him with a faint smile on his lips.
It was the young master of the Marquis Jingzhong’s Mansion, Wu Ziyan.
’Good!’
A murderous intent surged in Lu Bai. He changed his plan on the spot, but a smile appeared on his face as he waved at Wu Ziyan and then pointed to Ah Ming beside him.
Wu Ziyan’s eyes lit up, and he gestured for Lu Bai to come upstairs.
Lu Bai took Ah Ming and entered Wangjiang Tower, ascending floor by floor.
When they reached the sixth floor, they were stopped.
"Let him come up."
Just then, a voice drifted down from the floor above.
Lu Bai followed the sound with his gaze and saw a middle-aged man staring intently at him. The man’s expression was grim, and his eyes held a hint of hostility as he looked at Ah Ming.
A faint scar was visible on the man’s forehead—the very one Ah Ming had inflicted that night.
’The True Master of the Martial Dao from the Mo Country!’
Lu Bai reached the ninth floor of Wangjiang Tower.
The middle-aged man led Lu Bai to a room, pushed the door open, and said, "Young Master, I’ve brought him."
The room was extremely spacious and luxurious, its table laden with rare delicacies and fine wines.
Wu Ziyan, slightly drunk, raised his cup and asked with a smirk, "Lord Lu, and where might you be off to?"
Lu Bai replied, "I was planning to take some gifts to Fujiao Manor to pay a visit to Boss Luo. But then I happened to see you, Young Master Wu, so I thought I’d stop by and deliver Ah Ming."
"Haha, Lord Lu, you really know how to play the game!"
Wu Ziyan was delighted. "Quick, bring that beast over here and let me have a look."
Lu Bai bent down, picked up Ah Ming, and was about to walk toward Wu Ziyan.
The middle-aged man at his side suddenly spoke up, "Young Master, this is a Tier Three Exotic Beast, after all. Before it has acknowledged a master, it’s better if I hold it."
"Fine."
Wu Ziyan nodded.
The middle-aged man stepped forward and took Ah Ming from Lu Bai’s hands.
Ah Ming maintained the appearance of a dazed rooster, allowing Lu Bai to hand it over to the middle-aged man with extreme docility.
"Incredible."
Wu Ziyan found this highly amusing. "If you didn’t see it with your own eyes, you’d never guess this dumb-looking chicken was a Tier Three Exotic Beast. The creature is truly clever."
Wu Ziyan leaned in and flicked Ah Ming’s head a few times with his finger.
Ah Ming didn’t react.
"This beast is just acting dumb. Why isn’t it transforming and revealing its true form?"
Wu Ziyan frowned slightly and shot Lu Bai a sideways glance. "You’re not trying to fool me with an ordinary rooster, are you?"
"I wouldn’t."
Lu Bai replied casually. After entering the room, he had been scanning his surroundings.
He now confirmed that there was no one else in the room.
Wu Ziyan asked, "By the way, what gift were you planning to bring to the Fujiao Gang?"
Lu Bai said, "I hadn’t decided before, but now I have an idea."
"What is it?"
"Your head!"
The peaceful atmosphere shattered in an instant. A chilling killing intent filled the entire room!
BUZZ!
The Cyan Cloud Sword left its sheath.
Lu Bai stomped, and a burst of golden light erupted from the sole of his foot. In an instant, he was in front of Wu Ziyan.
The speed was terrifying.
It all happened so suddenly. Wu Ziyan’s face changed drastically as he scrambled to dodge backward, instinctively looking to the middle-aged man beside him to cry for help.
But that one glance made Wu Ziyan’s pupils shrink.
Ah Ming had transformed into its true form in the middle-aged man’s arms. With a single peck, it punched a bloody hole right through the man’s face!
The middle-aged man saw Lu Bai make his move and his Heart and Spirit trembled. He was about to shout a warning and intervene, but he had forgotten about the Exotic Beast he was holding in his arms!
The next moment, the man felt a searing pain in his head, his vision went black, and he fell backward.
Having succeeded with its first strike, Ah Ming followed up with a furious series of pecks.
It hadn’t managed to peck the man to death that night.
This time, it finally had its chance.
Besides, when Wu Ziyan had flicked its head earlier, Ah Ming had been holding back its anger.
Now that it was unleashed, Ah Ming vented its fury, pecking several more bloody holes into the man’s skull until he was as dead as could be.
Lu Bai and Ah Ming had struck at almost the exact same time!
A flash of sword light!
No matter how fast Wu Ziyan dodged, he wasn’t faster than the Cyan Cloud Sword in Lu Bai’s hand.
TSSST!
Wu Ziyan felt a cold line across his throat. His body’s Blood Qi drained away in an instant, and he collapsed weakly to the ground as a spray of scarlet blood gushed forth!
"You... you... how dare you..."
Wu Ziyan clutched his throat with both hands, his eyes wide with horror as he stared at the murderous Lu Bai before him, his voice trembling.
Countless thoughts flashed through his mind.
’His grandfather is a First-Grade Marquis of the Wu Dynasty, a Nascent Soul True Monarch.’
’How could this Lu Bai dare?’
’How could this ant-like creature actually dare to kill him?’
’The man is insane! He’s throwing his life away!’
Wu Ziyan’s teeth chattered, and a chill ran through his body. "A-Aren’t you afraid..."
Lu Bai’s gaze was ice-cold. He said nothing.
Before Wu Ziyan could finish, Lu Bai stepped forward, grabbed him by the hair, laid the Cyan Cloud Sword against his neck, and sliced with force.
SQUELCH!
The blade was so sharp it was like slicing through tofu.
Wu Ziyan was decapitated!
Blood gushed out, instantly staining the floor red.
Lu Bai tore off a piece of the bedsheet and wrapped Wu Ziyan’s head in it.
Lu Bai and Ah Ming’s sudden attack was clean and efficient.
Wu Ziyan and the True Master of the Martial Dao hadn’t even managed to cry for help before it was all over.
There hadn’t been much noise from the room.
Lu Bai was about to leap out the window when he caught a glimpse of the pristine white wall. An idea struck him. He found a piece of wood in the room to use as a brush, dipped it in Wu Ziyan’s blood, and wrote a few lines on the wall.
After he finished writing, Lu Bai read it over twice, quite satisfied. Only then did he leap from a window on the other side. Ah Ming caught him perfectly, carrying him as it flew out of the city.
