The Martial Doctor
Chapter 672 - 499: Thoracotomy Surgery (Part 2)
Sun Youwei listened with her eyebrows slightly furrowed. When Situ Wan had approached her, she hadn’t mentioned even half a word about this. Was it deliberate concealment, or was it simply not true?
"Dongguo, why didn’t you tell me about these things earlier?"
"Didn’t this kid, Lin, say that knowing these things would just add to your troubles? Anyway, you didn’t know your mother was still alive, just pretend as if she wasn’t; it’s easier to live in ignorance," said Dongguo Sun.
"If she truly cared about me, then in these twenty years, even if she was genuinely restricted at Siguoya, couldn’t she have sent someone to pass on a message to me and my father?"
"In a sect like the Daoist Sect, your mother was a True Disciple of Merak Peak. Eloping with a Wild Physician and giving birth to a daughter would naturally be seen as scandalous. How could they allow her to have any contact with you?"
"Since that’s how she is, then let’s not disturb each other, and just live our lives well separately. Isn’t that better?" Sun Youwei said, her eyes slightly reddened. Growing up without a mother, seeing other children able to throw themselves into their mother’s embrace, how could she not long for that?
But, to her, it was an unachievable luxury.
"Hey, girl, deep down you’re still thinking about her, aren’t you?"
Sun Youwei didn’t answer.
But not answering was answer enough.
"I’m leaving, Dongguo, I’ll come to see you again sometime."
"Alright, girl, if you have anything on your mind, don’t keep it bottled up. If you don’t want to talk to Lin about it, you can come and talk to me, I’m willing to listen."
"Okay."
...
"Giddy up, faster, faster..."
In the carriage, Mr. Yuan was already barely conscious, with the driver being an adept from the Su Family, the carriage was moving both quickly and steadily.
This had been nearly four hours of continuous travel.
The horses had been changed twice in between; otherwise, running for four hours straight would have killed the horse.
"How much further?"
The guard tending to Mr. Yuan inside the carriage asked.
"Soon, take a turn ahead, then it’s just four or five lis more."
"Hurry up, I’m afraid Mr. Yuan won’t hold on."
"Got it, hold tight, this part of the road is smoother, I’ll speed up." The Su Family’s driver flicked the reins, and the carriage picked up speed again by three points.
"Hang in there, Mr. Yuan, we’re almost there!"
"Don’t waste your energy. I’m done for. Guard brother, you’re under the Crown Prince, right? I have a few words I hope you can relay."
"Mr. Yuan, go ahead, I’m listening!"
"I’ve been alone all my life, only took in three disciples, imparted almost everything I knew, except for one technique. This is my most treasured skill..."
...
"Mr. Lin, Mr. Lin..."
"Who’s shouting outside?" Lin Miao frowned slightly. The nickname "Mr. Lin" was given by the townsfolk, but he had never allowed anyone to call him that, even if someone did, he would stop them. While it’s meant as praise, from another perspective, it’s flattery that leads to downfall.
He wasn’t so idle as to create such a persona.
"Young master, shall I check it out?" Lin Mao swiftly ran out.
Soon, Lin Mao returned, "Young master, it’s someone from the Su Family, someone’s injured and they’re here for your help."
Help?
With a matter as grave as saving a life, and it being someone from the Su Family, Lin Miao naturally couldn’t hesitate. He immediately stood up: "Grab my medicine chest, let’s go."
"Where is the person?"
"Here, Mr. Lin, please take a look, he’s in critical condition..."
Lin Miao rushed to the carriage and saw an old man lying inside, with blood still on the corner of his mouth and his chest stained red.
It seemed he had just vomited blood, the color was still quite fresh.
The guard inside the carriage from the Eastern Palace had not seen Lin Miao before, and seeing someone so youthfully enter, felt a bit surprised. Aren’t skilled physicians supposed to be older? So why is someone so young arriving?
Ah, this must be the disciple of that physician.
"Sir, you must be Mr. Lin’s disciple, has your master arrived?"
"Hmm?"
Lin Miao didn’t answer. Being mistaken for someone else, it wasn’t strange. The person didn’t have the local accent and had probably not known him.
Besides, judging by the person’s attire, he wasn’t an average person, evidently more like a guard of some noble family, so having a condescending attitude was normal.
Lin Miao leaned down to check Mr. Yuan’s breath and pulse at the neck, there was a faint sign of life.
This old man’s martial prowess wasn’t low, which must have kept him going until now. Had it been anyone else, they would have died by now.
Upon feeling his pulse, Lin Miao instantly frowned. This guy was so severely injured; he managed to survive up to now, perhaps due to some healing pills.
The heart and lung veins were broken, a result of a heavy blow.
The attacker was merciless, indeed aiming for his life.
"Mao, bring the stretcher. Immediately prepare the operating room; if we’re any later, I’m afraid he won’t make it." Lin Miao withdrew his hand, shouting outside.
"Sir, perhaps you should call your master, Mr. Lin, over?" The Eastern Palace guard hastily reminded again.
"I am him." Lin Miao casually glanced at him.
"Ah?" The guard from the Eastern Palace looked dumbfounded, doubting whether he’d heard correctly. But they were already there, so he could only follow Lin Miao’s instructions, not asking further, just looking a bit embarrassed.
"Junior brother, what’s the situation?" Senior sister Sun Youwei had also heard of the seriously injured seeking help and came over.
"With conditions here limited, we need to go back to Miao Manor and perform surgery immediately. Notify Dongguo to prepare some things..."
