The Make-Believe King

Every other summoned Hero comes out of the circle standing, confused, overwhelmed, and surrounded by people who already know what they are supposed to become. This one arrives seated on a throne. Above the king. He refuses to kneel, starts questioning the crown’s war before anyone can tell him his role in it, and never once admits that his crown is craft foam and his kingdom came from a school play. He can’t fight. He can barely buy bread. His one rare skill can tell when someone knowingly lies, but it can’t tell him what to do next. What he can do is perform authority well enough to make powerful people hesitate, and notice just enough to be dangerous when he thinks he has noticed everything. He has decided that a king isn’t a bloodline or a title the world grants him. A king is the person people turn to when everything is coming apart. So he’s going to find somewhere that’s coming apart. Stay. And make the make-believe real.
