Chapter 1053: 1053. Everything Goes Well... According To My Plan As Always

Morwenna fell silent. The air between them was no longer just cold; it was toxic, saturated with the unspoken reality of what Rex had just confessed.

She wasn’t angry anymore; anger was a human reaction, a reaction born of hope that things could be better. What she felt now was something far more corrosive: the dawning horror of understanding.

"You made a calculation," she said.

Her voice was hollow, stripped of its authority, sounding like wind whistling through a tomb.

"Yes," Rex replied.

His tone was disturbingly pleasant, the casual cadence of a man discussing a successful investment.

"And the civilians, the people bleeding out in the street, the children whose lives you just shattered—they were part of that calculation."

Rex turned his head slightly, studying her profile. A shadow of something predatory flickered across his features, not quite a smile, but a tightening at the corners of his mouth that suggested a deep, private amusement.

Inside his mind, he catalogued her reaction: ’Morwenna: Emotional collapse initiated.’

’Moral framework destabilizing.’

’Probability of future compliance: Increasing.’

"Everyone is always in the calculation, Morwenna," Rex said.

His voice dropped an octave, losing its synthetic politeness. "The question isn’t whether they were included."

"The question is whether their value outweighed the data gained from their suffering."

"In this instance, the answer was a resounding yes."

He watched her carefully. He could see the way her shoulders trembled, not from fear, but from the sheer weight of the truth he had laid bare.

He felt a surge of dark, possessive triumph. He didn’t just want to defeat her; he wanted to dismantle her.

He wanted to watch the light of her principles burn out until there was nothing left but a hollow shell, a creature that would eventually crawl to his feet, broken and begging, to serve his every whim, whether that be as a tool, a puppet, or a plaything.

He could already envision it: the proud Morwenna reduced to a trembling slave, her dignity traded for the scraps of survival he would deign to grant her. It was all a matter of time. The pieces were already moving.

Morwenna turned away from him. Her expression was the specific, haunted mask of someone who had asked for the truth and received a monster in return.

She looked like someone who had just realized they were standing in the middle of a minefield and every step forward was a gamble with annihilation.

She began to walk toward the courtyard gate, her movements stiff, each step seeming to cost her more effort than the last. She stopped at the threshold, the ancient stone archway framing her broken silhouette.

"Rex Rexilion," she said.

She didn’t turn around. She spoke to the air, to the ruins, to the god of this new, shattered reality.

"Yes," he said.

"You are exactly as dangerous as Theo said you were," she whispered. "You aren’t a protector. You’re a plague."

Then she went inside, leaving him alone in the wreckage.

Rex stood alone in the center of the devastation. Above him, the massive wall of the Nightwing household hung like a broken jaw, jagged stone teeth exposed to the sky.

In the middle distance, the Academy wall groaned, its structural integrity compromised. Through the haze of dust and blood, he could still see Apollo moving among the wounded, a solitary figure performing the grim work of stitching reality back together, one broken body at a time.

Rex felt nothing but a flat, crystalline satisfaction.

The engagement had been a perfect success. The variables had aligned with mathematical precision.

He had extracted the full temporal designation’s capability profile from the combat engagement. He had witnessed the raw data of Apollo’s life affinity as it fought to reassert biological order over temporal chaos.

He had successfully forced Aurelia and Theo into the household together, the exact configuration required for the next phase of his psychological conditioning.

And most importantly, he had secured Morwenna’s confirmation of his nature, delivered at the exact moment when the others were too distracted by their own pain to hear it.

He stood in the middle of the carnage and took a slow, measured breath. The air tasted of copper and burnt energy, the perfume of victory.

Then, he turned his back on the screaming and the blood. He began to walk toward the academy’s interior gate.

There was administrative work to be done, reports to file, damage assessments to authorize, and resources to reallocate. After all, administrative work did not pause for satisfaction.

...

The interior of the Nightwing household was suffocating. The air was thick with the smell of antiseptic, old wood, and the iron tang of blood that seemed to have seeped into the very floorboards.

The door had barely clicked shut behind them before the dam broke.

Theo didn’t just explode; he detonated. A guttural, animalistic roar ripped from his throat as he hurled himself against the nearest wall, his fist connecting with the ancient oak with a crack that sounded like a bone snapping.

His knuckles split instantly, crimson spattering the wallpaper.

"How could you?" he screamed, his voice cracking, raw from the battle and the betrayal. "How could you possibly look me in the eye today knowing what you did with that thing?"

Aurelia stood frozen in the center of the drawing room. She looked fragile, her skin pale beneath the grime, but there was a terrifying stillness in her posture.

"Theo, please. Sit down."

"You’re bleeding. You’re not thinking—"

"Don’t you dare tell me what I’m thinking!" Theo spun on her, his one good eye blazing with a psychotic intensity.

His pupils were blown wide, darting erratically as his mind fractured under the weight of the image he couldn’t erase: Rex’s cold, calculating hands on his mother.

"I saw him, Mother! I saw the way he looked at us!"

"He didn’t just take you; he owned you!"

"He used you like some fucking object, some disposable toy, and you let him!"

"It wasn’t like that," she whispered, though the tremor in her hands betrayed her.

"Then what was it like?" Theo’s laughter was jagged, hysterical. He began to pace the room like a caged predator, his movements twitchy and violent. "Was it love? Was it ’sacrifice’?!"

"Because it looked like surrender to me! You didn’t fight him!"

"You lay there while he dismantled everything we were... And now..." His voice dropped to a horrified whisper, his face contorting in disgust. "And now there’s his blood in you!"

"His seed! You’re carrying a monster!"

"I did it to save us, Theo!" Aurelia finally snapped, her voice rising to match his desperation.

Tears streaked through the bloodstains on her cheeks. "The family was drowning!"

"The debts, the enemies, and the magical corruption where Rex offered a solution!"

"He offered stability, power, and protection. The price was... it was me."

"The price was your soul!" Theo shrieked, kicking a mahogany side table.

The wood splintered under his enhanced strength, sending shards flying across the room. "You traded yourself to a demon to buy us a few more years of breathing?!"

"Do you know what that makes us? We’re not a family anymore!"

"We’re his property! We’re his livestock!"

His breathing became shallow, rapid hyperventilation bordering on a full psychotic break. His inner monologue was a screaming cacophony.

’He’s watching. He’s listening through the walls.’

’He’s laughing because she gave up. He won. He fucked our lives apart, and she thanked him for it.

"You think you’re so righteous, standing there bleeding for a world that’s already dead," Aurelia said, stepping toward him, reaching out with unsteady hands. "You don’t understand the choices I had to make!"

"I chose survival over pride."

Theo recoiled from her touch as if her skin were molten lava. "Don’t touch me!"

"Don’t you fucking touch me with hands that he touched!" He grabbed a crystal vase from the mantel and hurled it at the fireplace. It shattered into a thousand glittering teeth. "Every time I look at you now, I won’t see my mother!"

"I’ll see his puppet. I’ll see the woman who knelt before a monster and asked for more."

"Theo, stop this madness--"

"Madness? This isn’t madness, this is clarity!" Theo’s face was a mask of pure, unadulterated rage, his veins standing out like cords on his neck. "The world is burning, Rex is standing in the ashes holding the match, and you’re inside here, carrying his fucking legacy!"

He grabbed his own hair, claws digging into his scalp. "I want to kill him. I want to rip his throat out and watch him choke on the blood of the family he corrupted."

He turned to her, his expression suddenly going eerily blank, the kind of calm that precedes a massacre. "But I can’t, can I?!"

"Because every time I try to strike him, I remember that I’d be striking the father of the thing growing inside you!"

"He’s rigged the game, Mother!"

"He didn’t just defeat us! He made us complicit!"

He collapsed to his knees, not in surrender, but as if the sheer gravity of his hatred had become too heavy to bear. He began to sob, not tears of sadness, but wet, choking sounds of rage.

"I hate you. God help me, I hate you more than I hate him."
