The Lust Grimoire: I Steal Magic By Fulfilling Her Desires
Chapter 98: Absolute Defeat
The needle-thin beam of golden-black energy did not travel through the air so much as it erased the physical space lying between the Golden Trim’s finger and Arthur’s chest.
It moved with a terrifying, instantaneous velocity that defied physical reaction. Arthur didn’t dodge through skill, foresight, or athletic grace; he survived purely because his instincts, honed through decades of life-and-death mercenaries’ gambits, bypassed his conscious thought entirely. The moment he saw the black-and-gold distortion gather on the operative’s fingertip, Arthur violently detonated a localized burst of ice mana inside the muscles of his right thigh.
The self-inflicted internal force threw his upper body violently to the left.
THWIP.
The beam tore through the dark space where Arthur’s torso had been a microsecond prior. It didn’t generate heat, nor did it cause an explosive impact. It simply atomized everything in its path. Arthur’s heavy leather shoulder pauldrons, reinforced with cold-forged iron plates, vanished into microscopic dust. The beam continued past him, striking the massive, three-foot-thick stone retaining wall at the rear of the Sunken Coliseum.
The stone wall didn’t shatter. A perfectly smooth, circular hole four inches wide was carved straight through thirty feet of ancient masonry, extending far into the earth beyond.
Arthur tumbled across the glassed bedrock, rolling hard over his left shoulder before digging his notched longsword into the stone to stop his momentum. A spray of fresh, hot blood burst from his mouth, staining the grey bedrock. The sheer atmospheric pressure accompanying the beam’s trajectory had sheared away the skin along his right collarbone, leaving a jagged, bleeding furrow that burned with a sickening, spatial rot.
Ten feet away, the Golden Trim slowly lowered his gloved hand. The burnished gold mask remained tilted in Arthur’s direction, completely devoid of surprise or frustration.
"Acceptable reflexes," the Executive observed, his voice echoing inside Arthur’s mind like a cold bronze bell. "You sacrificed your muscle tissue to alter your trajectory by three inches. A crude, painful survival mechanism. But how many times can your broken body endure such arithmetic?"
"Arthur!"
A sharp, desperate scream cut through the heavy silence.
Seraphina was on her feet. The Saintess of the Holy See had abandoned all regal composure. Her hands were bloodied from crawling through the gravel, her white dress torn at the knees, but her golden eyes burned with a wild, cornered fury.
She knew, with absolute and terrifying clarity, that if Arthur fell, there would be no negotiation, no diplomatic immunity, and no rescue. The creature standing before them was an apex killer who viewed their lives as nothing more than minor operational clutter.
Seraphina brought her blood-stained hands together. She didn’t call upon the ambient mana of the arena—she couldn’t, for the Golden Trim’s passive aura sat upon the subterranean complex like a mountain of lead. Instead, she reached deep into her own divine core, forcibly igniting her spiritual pathways in a reckless, self-destructive surge that forced golden light to burst from her eyes and mouth.
Her hovering Tier 9 Grimoire burst into blinding, white-hot celestial flames.
"Heavenly Realm: Seven Pillars of Judgment!" Seraphina roared, her melodic voice cracking with agonizing strain.
The vaulted ceiling above the Golden Trim shattered entirely. Seven colossal shafts of pure, unadulterated holy fire—each as wide as an ancient oak tree—plunged straight down from the night sky, intersecting in a star-shaped kill zone centered directly on the Executive’s position. The heat was so intense that the rain falling through the breach vaporized fifty feet in the air, converting the arena floor into a roaring furnace of white-hot divine wrath.
Arthur didn’t waste the opening.
Even as his internal core throbbed with a dull, nauseating ache, he forced his body to move. He tapped into the Tier 8 Dream Weaver, casting a wide-area spatial distortion across the boiling steam.
To the naked eye, Arthur’s form shattered into thirty distinct, identical phantoms. Each phantom wielded a glowing, ice-encased longsword, and each charged at the Golden Trim from a different vector—leaping from fallen pillars, sliding across the glassed bedrock, and stepping through the shadow of Seraphina’s blinding light pillars. Simultaneously, Arthur triggered the Tier 7 Frost Sovereign, sending thick, razor-sharp spires of crystal ice erupting from the bedrock beneath the Executive’s feet, attempting to impale him from below while the holy fire rained down from above.
It was a synchronized, multi-elemental assault that would have obliterated an entire battalion of elite royal knights. It combined Tier 9 holy fire, Tier 8 spatial optical illusions, and Tier 7 absolute-zero ice into a seamless, inescapable death trap.
The Golden Trim didn’t even draw a weapon. He didn’t move his feet.
He simply raised his left hand, spreading his leather-gloved fingers wide, and performed a slow, counter-clockwise twist of his wrist.
"Insignificant," the Executive murmured.
A single, translucent wave of golden-black spatial force expanded outward from his palm in a thirty-foot circle. It did not collide with their spells; it warped the physical dimensions through which those spells existed.
The seven colossal pillars of Tier 9 holy fire hit the golden-black wave and folded inward on themselves. The divine light was violently compressed, twisted like wet cloth, and then crushed out of existence with a hollow POP that sounded like a collapsing vacuum.
The spires of absolute-zero ice erupting from the bedrock were instantly reduced to fine, white flour, their molecular bonds severed before the tips could even graze the hem of the Executive’s midnight robes.
And Arthur’s thirty Dream Weaver illusions? The spatial ripple passed through them, instantly unraveling the delicate light-bending geometry Arthur had spent precious mana constructing. The phantoms dissolved into harmless purple sparks, leaving only the real Arthur exposed, mid-stride, twenty feet to the Executive’s left.
Seraphina collapsed to her knees, coughing up a mixture of blood and gold mana particles. Her Tier 9 Grimoire fell from the air, slamming heavily into the mud, its pages charred and silent.
"My... my light..." she gasped, staring at her trembling, blackened hands in utter disbelief. "It didn’t even touch him... It was absorbed by... by spatial collapse..."
Arthur didn’t stop his momentum. He knew the illusions were gone. He knew the ice had failed. But he was already in motion, his body operating on pure, desperate kinetic instinct.
He used a double-layered Glacial Step, vanishing into the lingering cloud of superheated steam, attempting to slip into the microscopic blind spot created by the Golden Trim’s raised left arm. He concentrated every single drop of his remaining Frost mana into the tip of his notched longsword, extending the blade with a three-foot needle of dense, hyper-compressed blue ice designed for maximum armor penetration.
He lunged forward from the steam, driving the point of his blade straight toward the narrow gap behind the Executive’s gold-masked ear.
It was a flawless, silent strike executed with the absolute precision of a master assassin.
The Golden Trim didn’t turn his head. He didn’t even shift his posture.
Before Arthur’s blade could come within two feet of his neck, the Executive’s right hand snapped out with a speed that defied the concept of motion. His gloved fingers bypassed the razor-sharp needle of hyper-compressed ice entirely, reaching straight through Arthur’s strike, and clamped firmly around Arthur’s throat.
The grip was not like a human hand. It felt like being caught in the cold, unyielding iron jaws of a hydraulic vise.
CRACK.
Arthur’s defensive mana barrier, honed through years of combat, snapped instantly under the crushing pressure of the Executive’s fingers. The needle of hyper-compressed ice on Arthur’s blade shattered into useless dust as the connection to his core was violently severed.
Arthur was lifted completely off his feet, suspended six feet in the air by his neck.
His sword clattered uselessly against the bedrock. Arthur grabbed at the Executive’s wrist with both hands, digging his leather-wrapped fingers into the midnight silk, trying to pry the suffocating grip loose. But the Executive’s arm was an immovable pillar of absolute force.
"You possess a remarkable degree of combat tenacity, mercenary," the Golden Trim said, his gold mask tilting up to look at Arthur’s thrashing form. "Your execution of spatial stepping and low-profile mana concealment is worthy of praise among common adventurers. But you suffer from a fundamental misunderstanding of hierarchy."
The Executive’s fingers tightened slightly. Arthur heard the terrifying, wet crunch of his own windpipe compressing. Oxygen was instantly cut off, and his vision began to tunnel into blackness, filled with flashing red spots.
"You operate within the rules of elemental manipulation," the Executive continued, his voice calm, didactic, and terrifyingly cold. "You move fire, you freeze water, you bend light. I manipulate the canvas upon which those elements exist. To me, your greatest techniques are nothing more than faint scratches on a pane of glass."
The Golden Trim casually raised his left foot, stepping back slightly, and then violently drove Arthur downward into the bedrock.
BOOOOOOM!
The impact was deafening.
The stone floor exploded beneath Arthur’s back. A fresh crater six feet wide and two feet deep opened in the glassed slate, throwing fragments of shattered rock into the air. The sheer kinetic shockwave traveled straight through Arthur’s spine, shattering three of his left ribs, fracturing his right collarbone, and dislocating his left shoulder.
A choked, ragged scream tore from Arthur’s crushed throat, followed immediately by a fountain of dark blood that spilled over his lips and ran down his neck.
He lay pinned in the crater, his vision swimming, his body completely paralyzed by the catastrophic trauma. Every nerve in his frame was screaming in agony, and his internal mana core throbbed erratically, its spiritual meridians torn and leaking raw, chaotic mana into his bloodstream.
High on the crater’s edge, Prince Kaelen pressed his face deeper into the mud, weeping silently in absolute, paralyzing terror. He couldn’t move. He couldn’t look up. The oppressive aura in the room was so thick that his heart felt as though it were being slowly squeezed flat by an invisible hand.
"A pathetic display," the Golden Trim muttered, standing over Arthur’s broken body.
Down in the crater, Arthur’s left eye was swollen shut, blood pouring from a deep gash on his forehead. Through his blurred right eye, he saw the burnished gold mask looking down at him.
Not... yet... Arthur thought, his mind clinging to consciousness through pure, stubborn malice. I still have... one...
With an agonizing, heroic effort of sheer willpower, Arthur forced his broken left arm upward. He didn’t try to punch. He didn’t try to draw a dagger.
At point-blank range—less than six inches from the Golden Trim’s featureless mask—Arthur ignited the last, deepest reserve of divine mana locked within his soul. He forced the stolen, copied matrix of the Tier 9 Aegis of the Morning Star to manifest directly from the palm of his hand.
BRIGHT-LIGHT!
A blinding, miniature sun erupted between Arthur’s hand and the Executive’s face. The translucent golden shield manifested at maximum density, its holy runes spinning rapidly, generating a localized explosion of divine light designed to blast the Executive back and tear his face to shreds.
It was Arthur’s absolute final card—a point-blank Tier 9 ambush born of pure desperation.
The Golden Trim didn’t even flinch.
He simply reached out his free hand, wrapped his leather-gloved fingers directly around the edge of the spinning, golden Aegis, and squeezed.
CRUNCH.
The Tier 9 divine construct—a spell capable of standing against army-level bombardment—groaned under the raw, terrifying density of the Executive’s spatial mana. Cracks of dark, void-like energy spider-webbed across the golden runes.
With a casual flex of his fingers, the Golden Trim shattered the Aegis of the Morning Star into useless, sparkling dust, brushing the sacred magic aside as if it were nothing more than a cobweb in a doorway.
Arthur’s left arm collapsed back into the mud, utterly spent, his meridians finally snapping completely under the strain. He lay entirely defenseless, his breathing shallow, ragged, and wet.
"Arthur!"
Seraphina, seeing the mercenary crushed, dragged herself onto her hands and knees. With a desperate, sobbing cry, she channeled the absolute last spark of her divine authority, summoning a single, fragile spear of light into her right hand. She threw it with all her remaining strength toward the Executive’s back.
The Golden Trim didn’t turn around. He didn’t even look at her.
He casually flicked his left wrist behind him.
A backhand arc of golden-black spatial force swept through the air, traveling fifty paces in a microsecond. It struck the light spear, shattering it instantly, and continued forward to slam directly into Seraphina’s chest.
THWACK.
The acoustic force of the impact sounded like a heavy iron ball striking a hanging sheet of copper. Seraphina was lifted off her knees and launched backward through the air like a ragdoll. She slammed violently into the stone terrace wall thirty feet away, cracking the masonry, before tumbling down into a heap of rubble and mud.
Her Grimoire dissolved into gray ash. She didn’t get up. Her golden eyes fluttered shut, her breathing reduced to faint, shallow gasps as blood pooled around her torn white dress.
Silence returned to the Sunken Coliseum—a dead, absolute silence broken only by the steady, cold patter of the night rain falling onto the ruined earth.
The Golden Trim lifted his right boot and placed it directly onto the center of Arthur’s chest.
He didn’t stomp. He simply applied steady, gradual weight.
Arthur’s crushed ribs groaned under the pressure. Fresh agony flared through his shattered shoulder, and he choked on the blood pooling in his mouth, unable to draw air into his flattened lungs.
"You fought admirably for a dog," the Golden Trim said smoothly, his bronze-like voice echoing in the ruined vault. "You forced me to expend three percent of my operational core capacity. That is more than any mercenary in this forgotten kingdom has achieved in a century."
The Executive raised his right hand above his head.
The ambient dark mana in the room surged toward his open palm, compressing and twisting until it formed a six-foot-long, razor-thin blade of solid, golden-black spatial void. It hummed with a terrifying, high-frequency pitch that turned the surrounding raindrops into vapor before they could touch its edge. It was a weapon of absolute termination—a blade that did not cut flesh, but erased the very soul of whatever it pierced.
"Now," the Golden Trim murmured, aiming the tip of the spatial blade directly down at Arthur’s heart. "Let us erase this messy Chapter."
Arthur lay pinned beneath the heavy boot, staring up at the descending blade of void. His body was broken, his core was ruptured, his vision was darkening at the edges, and his hands refused to obey his commands.
He had survived decades of war, dozens of impossible contracts, and the schemes of high-tier archmages. But here, in the dark, muddy pit of a forgotten subterranean coliseum, he had run out of tricks. He had run out of mana. He had run out of time.
The Golden Trim began his downward thrust, driving the lethal, golden-black blade straight toward Arthur’s exposed chest.
