Chapter 221: 221: Awakening Bloodline [1]

Within the Lin Family, what was the item with the greatest value?

If that question were asked to any single member of the family, they would most likely give the same answer: their ancient altar.

Why?

Because owning such an altar was one of the key differences between an ordinary clan and a true cultivator clan.

Just as there were pill refiners for refining pills, there are blacksmiths for forging weapons, talisman masters for creating talismans, and array masters for constructing formations.

Meanwhile, building an awakening altar like this required the combined efforts of an array master and a blacksmith.

Creating one was an incredibly tedious process, which naturally made the cost considerably higher.

Because of the difficulty of bringing the two professions together, awakening altars were rarely built in the first place.

But having one could make an enormous difference to a clan.

With an awakening altar, members of the family could awaken their martial spirits and begin their journey on the path of cultivation.

With such an important role, it was only natural that everyone in the Lin Family would consider the altar to be their most precious possession.

Lin Xuan stared at the massive altar standing before him.

[Item: Dragonic Altar]

[Grade: Myth Grade]

[Description: An altar that once belonged to the forgotten Dragon Tribes.]

[Abilities:]

[1. Awakens the Martial Spirit of a person.]

[2. Awakens dormant bloodlines within a person.]

[3. Indestructible.]

If anyone knew that this altar could awaken dormant bloodlines in addition to martial spirits, they would probably go insane.

Lin Xuan smirked as he decided to finally try awakening his own dormant bloodline.

Hopefully, I’ll awaken a cool bloodline.

A bloodline was, in simple terms, an inheritance passed down through generations.

The Whale People were a perfect example of this.

Their bloodline had been passed down through countless generations, giving them physical advantages far beyond ordinary humans.

It allowed them to survive underwater and even made them considerably stronger while fighting beneath the waves.

In terms of modern logic, fighting a Whale Person underwater would be like trying to wrestle a shark in its own territory.

The Qin Family also possessed a bloodline that had been passed down from one generation to the next.

Unlike the Whale People, however, the Qin Family was enormous, and those who possessed a truly pure bloodline were extremely rare.

As for what exactly their bloodline could do, there was no reliable information.

Still, awakening a bloodline was undoubtedly a good thing.

Of course, there was also the possibility that he might awaken some strange bloodline that would end up being more troublesome than beneficial.

That was precisely why Lin Xuan had been putting it off for so long.

Phew. Let’s do this. I don’t know what that Leviathan might do next. That thing has already made me lose hundreds of millions of spirit stones.

With that thought, Lin Xuan stepped forward and stood before the ancient altar.

He looked at it for a moment before muttering, "How do I make use of the ability?"

The system immediately responded, explaining that the process was similar to the awakening function, except that awakening a bloodline consumed considerably more natural qi.

Altars like this absorbed the natural qi surrounding the area and stored it within themselves through the use of an array. During a martial spirit awakening ceremony, that stored natural qi would then be consumed to forge a vessel capable of sensing the spiritual qi in the air.

There were rumors that one could bypass the need for an awakening ceremony by simply opening all of their own meridians, but that was impossible.

Martial spirits were a crucial part of a cultivator’s life. Even if someone managed to open all of their meridians, they still needed to have their martial spirit awakened before they could truly begin cultivating.

"Welp, let’s do this."

Lin Xuan excitedly stepped toward the altar and placed his hand against its surface.

Since he had already awakened his martial spirit, the altar did not activate any of the arrays normally used during the awakening ceremony.

Instead, the natural qi surrounding the altar began to gather.

Slowly, Lin Xuan felt the natural qi being drawn toward him and entering his body.

Natural qi was not something an ordinary cultivator could simply absorb.

Although it was the foundation from which spiritual qi could be formed, natural qi in its raw state was too wild for a cultivator’s body. Without a suitable method to refine it first, forcing natural qi into one’s meridians could cause severe damage.

There were, however, martial techniques specifically designed to absorb natural qi directly. Such techniques were extremely rare, as they allowed their users to draw upon the raw energy of the world instead of relying solely on spiritual qi.

Unfortunately, Lin Xuan did not possess any such technique.

So when the natural qi began flowing into his body, he instinctively expected resistance.

Instead, something strange happened.

The moment the natural qi entered his body, it spread through his flesh rather than following his meridians.

Lin Xuan’s expression changed slightly as he could feel every strand of natural qi moving through his body.

Then his cells began to tremble.

It was an incredibly subtle sensation at first, almost like a faint vibration beneath his skin. But within moments, the sensation grew stronger, as though something buried deep within his body had suddenly been disturbed.

Lin Xuan suddenly felt a pang in his right arm immediately and lowered his gaze.

For the briefest instant, something appeared beneath his skin like a ripple of rigid, iridescent plates surfaced along his forearm.

Lin Xuan’s eyes widened and it vanished as quickly as it appeared.

The scale disappeared so quickly that he almost wondered whether he had imagined it.

He stared at his arm in silence, his fingers slowly curling into a fist trying to feel if anything was wrong with his forearm.

What was that?

Before he could think any further, another surge of natural qi entered his body, and the strange sensation began again.
