THE LAST & THE FIRST : Rulebreaker

Chapter 130 — The Last Boundary

  • Next Chapter

Kael stood at the edge of the ruined valley.

The blackened remains of the Darven estate were visible between the trees.

He could see broken walls.

Collapsed towers.

Charred stone.

The place was unmistakable.

But something about it bothered him.

The System had begun flashing.

[Warning.]

[Boundary Layer Integrity: 43%.]

Kael froze.

“Boundary Layer?”

The Shadow Lion immediately spoke from across his back.

“I thought we had already left.”

The Verdant Serpent's voice came through the armor.

“So did I.”

The Bone Sovereign remained silent for several seconds.

Then—

“We did not.”

Kael's expression changed.

“What?”

The necklace released a faint blue pulse.

“The Fifth Path exit crossed the first external boundary.”

Kael frowned.

“And?”

“There was another.”

Silence.

Kael looked toward the ruined estate.

“You're saying this entire world…”

The Bone Sovereign answered:

“Is still connected to the collapsing pocket world.”

Kael stared at the valley.

The monsters.

The mountains.

The artificial sky.

The strange absence of humans.

The unusual mana density.

It all suddenly made sense.

The world had felt real.

But it wasn't completely real.

It was the final boundary.

A world created to separate the pocket dimension's collapse from the true world.

Kael clenched his fist.

“How long?”

The System responded.

[Boundary Layer Integrity: 43%.]

[Estimated structural collapse: Unknown.]

Then—

[Primary pocket-world remnants: 0.3%.]

Kael's eyes widened.

“The inner world is almost completely gone.”

The Shadow Lion spoke.

“Then the final layer is next.”

Kael looked at the ruins again.

“We need to get out.”

The Verdant Serpent answered:

“Yes.”

Kael started walking.

The Ruins That Shouldn't Exist

The old Darven estate remained ahead.

Kael couldn't explain why.

The boundary layer was supposed to reproduce the external world.

But the estate—

was too accurate.

The broken courtyard.

The stone walls.

Even the old path leading toward the secret room.

Kael stopped.

He remembered.

He had been a child when he last saw this place.

He had entered the hidden room.

His father had been bleeding.

The portal had been waiting.

Then—

everything changed.

Kael slowly walked forward.

His boots touched the old stone path.

The environment reacted.

[Memory imprint detected.]

Kael stopped.

A translucent image appeared.

Not a memory from his mind.

A recording embedded in the boundary layer.

His old home.

Before the massacre.

His mother walking through the courtyard.

His father training with the Darven katana.

Young Kael running through the garden.

Kael stared.

His breathing became shallow.

The Shadow Lion became silent.

The Verdant Serpent stopped speaking.

Even the Bone Sovereign remained quiet.

The image continued.

His father lifted Kael onto his shoulders.

His mother laughed.

For a few seconds—

Kael wasn't fifteen.

He was eleven again.

Then the image changed.

The estate burned.

Black-clad figures moved through the courtyard.

The same night.

The same destruction.

Kael's fists tightened.

The memory disappeared.

The System displayed:

[Emotional memory reconstruction completed.]

Kael looked toward the ruined estate.

“This place isn't real.”

The Bone Sovereign answered:

“No.”

Kael took a breath.

“But it remembers.”

“Yes.”

He kept walking.

The Secret Room

Kael eventually reached the place where the hidden room had once existed.

The wall was broken.

Behind it—

nothing.

No father.

No blood.

No portal.

Only empty stone.

Kael stared.

He slowly crouched.

His hand touched the floor.

The System detected something.

[Residual Darven bloodline signature.]

Kael froze.

His father's presence.

Not alive.

Not conscious.

Just a trace.

A remnant embedded in the boundary's memory.

Kael closed his eyes.

For a moment—

he could almost hear his father's voice.

You must live.

Kael opened his eyes.

His expression became calmer.

“I did.”

The three weapons remained silent.

Kael touched the floor once more.

“I survived.”

A crack appeared across the ground.

The boundary layer shook.

Kael immediately stood.

The System displayed:

[Boundary Layer Integrity: 43% → 27%.]

The memory reconstruction was destabilizing.

Kael stepped backward.

“It's collapsing.”

The Last Archive

A hidden compartment opened beneath the floor.

Kael's eyes widened.

Inside was a small metal box.

The box carried the Darven crest.

Kael picked it up.

The System responded.

[Ancient Darven Object detected.]

[Bloodline compatibility: High.]

The box opened.

Inside—

was a single crystal.

Kael touched it.

A projection appeared.

His father.

Not the recording from the Space Ring.

A different one.

Older.

His father looked younger.

Healthier.

And more serious.

“If you're seeing this…”

Kael froze.

His father's projection continued.

“I hope you never find this.”

Kael's fingers tightened.

“But if you have…”

His father's expression became grim.

“Then the boundary has already begun collapsing.”

Kael's eyes widened.

His father continued:

“The Darven family knew that the pocket world was not isolated forever.”

“We built several fallback structures.”

“One of them was this.”

“The final boundary.”

“If the prison ever collapses…”

His father paused.

“…the boundary will preserve the memory of the Darven bloodline long enough for a successor to recover it.”

Kael stared.

His father looked directly at him.

“Kael.”

A pause.

“Don't stay here.”

Kael's breathing stopped.

“Your past is not a place you can return to.”

Another pause.

“Your future is.”

The crystal went dark.

Kael stood silently.

The words remained inside him.

He placed the crystal into his Space Ring.

Then—

the boundary shook violently.

BOOM!

The entire valley began collapsing.

The fake sky fractured.

Trees turned into white light.

The ruined estate began disappearing.

Kael stood there for one final moment.

His home.

His childhood.

His family.

Everything.

Then—

gone.

The Shadow Lion spoke quietly:

“Are you ready?”

Kael looked ahead.

“Yes.”

The Final Boundary

Kael ran.

The ground behind him disappeared.

The mountain collapsed.

The road vanished.

The forest became white light.

The System flashed repeatedly.

[Boundary Layer Integrity: 27% → 19%.]

Kael accelerated.

[15%.]

The Verdant Armor strengthened his legs.

The Bone Sovereign increased his mana reserves.

The Shadow Lion generated ammunition automatically.

Crimson bullets tore through collapsing debris.

Kael kept moving.

[10%.]

A massive crack opened ahead.

Kael saw something beyond it.

Not another illusion.

Not another pocket layer.

A vast blue sky.

Real clouds.

Natural sunlight.

The true world.

His eyes widened.

“There!”

The three weapons reacted.

The Shadow Lion:

“Run.”

The Serpent:

“Don't stop.”

The Bone Sovereign:

“The route is closing.”

Kael sprinted.

The final boundary collapsed behind him.

[5%.]

The ground disappeared beneath his feet.

Kael jumped.

His hands reached toward the opening.

The Origin Blade anchored itself into the stone beyond the boundary.

Kael pulled.

[3%.]

The boundary tore apart.

Kael's body crossed.

[1%.]

He landed.

Both feet touched real soil.

The System flashed.

[TRUE EXTERNAL WORLD CONFIRMED.]

Kael remained still.

The wind moved naturally.

Birds called somewhere in the distance.

Clouds drifted across the sky.

The atmosphere felt different.

Alive.

Real.

Behind him—

the final boundary collapsed.

[0%.]

[Pocket World and Boundary Layer: Completely collapsed.]

Kael turned.

There was nothing left.

No portal.

No crack.

No path.

No ancient tower.

The pocket world was gone.

The ancient entity remained sealed inside the vessel.

The three old Legendary Beasts remained with him as conscious weapons.

And the three eggs were safely stored.

The System displayed:

[Pocket World Completion: 100%.]

[Ancient Entity: Contained.]

[Legendary Beast Eggs: 3/3.]

[Conscious Beast Weapons: 3/3.]

[External World: Confirmed.]

Kael stood beneath the real sky.

He had finally escaped.

But something else appeared.

[Temporal difference calculation complete.]

Kael looked at the message.

[Pocket World temporal ratio: 1:3.]

[External time elapsed: 4 years.]

[Physical age: 15.]

Kael's expression became quiet.

Four years.

He had entered as an eleven-year-old boy.

He had returned—

fifteen.

He slowly looked toward the road ahead.

Somewhere beyond the mountains—

his former home waited.

The Shadow Lion spoke softly.

“You don't have to go today.”

Kael shook his head.

“I do.”

The Verdant Serpent remained silent.

The Bone Sovereign spoke:

“Then go.”

Kael tightened his hand around the Origin Blade.

The real world stretched before him.

No humans were nearby.

No settlements appeared on the System.

Only wilderness.

Kael began walking.

And after four years—

he was finally going home.
