THE LAST & THE FIRST : Rulebreaker

Chapter 120 — The Last Day of the Pocket World

  • Next Chapter

The portal flickered.

Blue-white light rippled across its unstable surface.

Kael stood before it.

The three Legendary Beasts stood behind him.

The Shadow Lion.

The Verdant Serpent.

The Bone Sovereign.

For several seconds, none of them moved.

The pocket world around them continued trembling.

The distant black tower remained silent.

The ancient entity beneath it had not awakened.

Not yet.

Kael looked at the System.

[External Connection Detected.]

[Destination: Original World.]

[Portal Stability: 12%.]

His eyes narrowed.

“Twelve percent isn't enough.”

The Bone Sovereign nodded.

“No.”

“If we enter now?”

“The portal may collapse before completing the transfer.”

Kael frowned.

“And if we stay?”

The Verdant Serpent looked toward the tower.

“You already know.”

Kael did.

The containment was deteriorating.

The temporary Four-Principle stabilization had slowed the collapse, but it hadn't solved the underlying problem.

Something remained beneath the tower.

Something ancient.

Something the three Legendary Beasts had spent thousands of years containing.

Kael looked toward his Space Ring.

Inside were the three eggs.

The Shadow Lion's.

The Verdant Serpent's.

The Bone Sovereign's.

The Shadow Seal.

The special vessel.

The Legacy Key Fragment.

Rare materials.

Weapons.

Books.

Artifacts.

Everything he had recovered.

He had nearly everything.

But not everything.

Kael turned toward the three Beasts.

“There are still unfinished matters.”

The Shadow Lion's crimson eyes narrowed.

“Yes.”

“The tower.”

“Yes.”

“The prison.”

“Yes.”

“And whatever is left of your original seals.”

The Bone Sovereign nodded.

“Those must be settled before you leave.”

Kael raised an eyebrow.

“Why?”

The Sovereign looked toward the black tower.

“Because if we leave the prison in its current condition, it will collapse without anyone controlling what happens afterward.”

Kael's expression became serious.

“What exactly are we supposed to do?”

The Sovereign answered:

“Close what can be closed.”

“Preserve what must remain.”

“And remove what should never have been left behind.”

Kael nodded.

“Then let's finish it.”

The Forgotten Archives

The first place they visited was beneath the central tower.

Not the black tower itself.

A chamber beneath its outer foundation.

Kael had discovered traces of it earlier through the Administrator's network.

Now that the Four-Principle system had stabilized the surrounding region, the chamber became accessible.

A massive stone door stood before them.

Five symbols were engraved across it.

Shadow.

Nature.

Death.

Change.

And the central symbol—

Choice.

Kael placed his hand against the center.

The door opened.

Inside was a vast archive.

Thousands of ancient tablets.

Metal plates.

Crystal records.

Sealed boxes.

Magical diagrams.

The remains of an ancient civilization's research.

Kael stared.

The Shadow Lion looked around.

“I have not seen this place.”

The Verdant Serpent lowered its head.

“Nor I.”

The Bone Sovereign remained silent.

Kael walked forward.

The System immediately responded.

[Ancient Archive detected.]

[Classification: Pre-Network Civilization.]

[Data corruption: 61%.]

[Recoverable information: 39%.]

Kael's eyes widened.

“Pre-Network.”

The same civilization that had existed before the current system.

Before the known bloodline network.

Before the formal classifications.

He moved deeper.

One crystal activated.

A projection appeared.

A group of ancient researchers stood around a large structure.

Kael recognized it.

The central black tower.

One of them spoke:

“The entity cannot be destroyed.”

Another answered:

“Then containment must be continuous.”

A third:

“Not containment.”

The projection flickered.

“Assimilation.”

Kael's eyes narrowed.

The recording continued.

“The prison is not merely a cage.”

“It converts external energy into stabilizing force.”

“Every lock contributes.”

“Every Beast contributes.”

“Every successor contributes.”

Kael's expression changed.

Successors.

Not just the Beasts.

The people who came afterward.

The Darvens.

Other bloodlines.

Perhaps the entire network.

The projection distorted.

A final line appeared:

“The system must eventually find a replacement host.”

Kael froze.

“A replacement host…”

The Bone Sovereign looked toward him.

“That is what the old system wanted.”

Kael's eyes narrowed.

“Not just a replacement lock.”

“No.”

“A replacement host.”

The Archive went dark.

Kael remained silent for several seconds.

Then he looked at the Shadow Seal in his hand.

“That explains why this exists.”

The Bone Sovereign's Soul Flame flickered.

“What does?”

“It doesn't destroy the entity.”

Kael looked at the special vessel.

“It moves the burden.”

The three Beasts became still.

Kael continued:

“The prison was designed to keep the entity inside.”

“But eventually someone has to carry whatever it was doing.”

The Verdant Serpent lowered its head.

“And you believe that someone was supposed to be you.”

Kael shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at the three Beast eggs.

“I think the system expected someone to accept the burden without having a choice.”

His expression hardened.

“The Fifth Path changed that.”

The Ancient Forging Record

Kael continued deeper into the archive.

He found something familiar.

A massive metal tablet.

Five circular marks were carved into it.

The first four matched the old principles.

The fifth was incomplete.

Kael touched it.

The Origin Blade responded immediately.

Silver light spread from his hand.

The tablet activated.

A figure appeared.

The first Darven.

The same man Kael had seen in the ancient forging vision.

A forge burned behind him.

Metal floated around his body.

He held a half-finished blade.

The first Darven spoke:

“The bloodline is not a weapon.”

Kael stared.

“It is a method.”

The blade changed shape.

“Metal taught us creation.”

A second symbol appeared.

“Shadow taught us adaptation through concealment.”

A third.

“Nature taught us growth.”

A fourth.

“Death taught us transformation through endings.”

Then the fifth symbol appeared.

Incomplete.

“And Change…”

The recording stopped for several seconds.

Then continued:

“…must never belong to anyone.”

Kael's eyes widened.

The first Darven lowered the unfinished blade.

“If Change becomes someone's property, it becomes another prison.”

The recording flickered.

“That is why the fifth path must remain free.”

The crystal went dark.

Kael stood motionless.

The Bone Sovereign spoke quietly.

“He understood.”

Kael looked at it.

“Understood what?”

“That the greatest danger wasn't the entity.”

Kael frowned.

“Then what?”

The Sovereign pointed toward the archive.

“Ownership.”

Kael looked at the Origin Blade.

His father's family had passed down power.

The network had passed down authority.

The prison had passed down burdens.

The Fifth Path offered something completely different.

Choice.

Kael finally understood why the first Darven had never become the owner of the Fifth Path.

He had deliberately refused.

The Three Eggs

Kael returned to the central chamber.

He opened the Space Ring.

The three eggs floated out.

The Shadow Lion's black-and-crimson egg.

The Verdant Serpent's green egg.

The Bone Sovereign's black-and-blue egg.

The three Legendary Beasts stared at them.

The Shadow Lion's expression softened.

The Verdant Serpent lowered its head.

The Bone Sovereign's Soul Flame became calm.

Kael looked at the eggs.

“Are they safe?”

“Yes,” said the Serpent.

“For now.”

The Bone Sovereign added:

“They cannot hatch inside this collapsing world.”

Kael's expression changed.

“Then they need to leave with me.”

“Yes.”

Kael carefully returned them to the Space Ring.

The System displayed:

[Legendary Beast Egg Collection: 3/3]

[All offspring secured.]

[Incubation environment: Stable.]

Kael nodded.

“One more thing.”

He looked at the three Beasts.

“When they're born…”

They waited.

“I don't want them forced into the same role you were.”

The Shadow Lion's crimson eyes brightened.

The Serpent nodded.

The Bone Sovereign smiled.

“That is why we gave them to you.”

The Bonds

The four-principle formation remained active.

Shadow.

Nature.

Death.

Choice.

But the bonds were still incomplete.

The System displayed:

[Voluntary Beast Bond]

Shadow Lion: 47%

Verdant Serpent: 34%

Bone Sovereign: 39%

Kael frowned.

“Why aren't the bonds complete?”

The Shadow Lion answered:

“Because a bond is not complete simply because both sides agree.”

“What else?”

“Shared purpose.”

Kael thought.

“What is yours?”

The Lion answered:

“To protect the continuation of my bloodline.”

The Serpent:

“To preserve the world that follows us.”

The Bone Sovereign:

“To prevent the prison from becoming another prison.”

Kael nodded.

Then he looked at himself.

“My purpose…”

He paused.

“To make sure none of you are ever forced into a role again.”

The System responded.

[Shared purpose recognized.]

[Voluntary Beast Bonds stabilized.]

[Shadow Lion: 47% → 71%]

[Verdant Serpent: 34% → 69%]

[Bone Sovereign: 39% → 74%]

Kael stared.

The bonds no longer felt like chains.

They were connections.

The three Beasts could still leave.

Could still disagree.

Could still act independently.

The bond simply ensured communication.

And trust.

The Four-Principle system stabilized.

[Replacement Protocol: 63% → 82%]

Kael exhaled.

“Better.”

The Exit

They returned to the external portal.

The stability had increased.

[Portal Stability: 12% → 67%]

Kael's eyes widened.

The Four-Principle system was working.

But not enough.

The portal still needed a higher threshold.

The Bone Sovereign looked toward the three eggs inside Kael's Space Ring.

“The offspring can serve as future stabilizers.”

“But they're dormant.”

“Yes.”

“So they cannot support the portal.”

Kael thought.

Then—

he looked at the Legacy Key Fragment.

The ancient fragment he had acquired at Level 40.

He took it out.

The System immediately reacted.

[Legacy Key Fragment I detected.]

[Bloodline synchronization: Active.]

[Ancient infrastructure compatibility: High.]

Kael smiled.

“This might work.”

He placed the fragment into the portal's control structure.

The entire formation changed.

[Legacy Key recognized.]

[Portal architecture adapting.]

[Stability: 67% → 81%.]

Kael stared.

“It worked.”

But the System didn't stop.

[Warning.]

[Portal requires one final stabilizing authority.]

Kael looked at the three Beasts.

The Shadow Lion stepped forward.

“Use mine.”

A small amount of crimson energy entered the portal.

81% → 88%.

The Verdant Serpent added its energy.

88% → 94%.

The Bone Sovereign added Soul energy.

94% → 99%.

Kael's eyes widened.

One percent remained.

The three Beasts looked at him.

Kael understood.

“Choice.”

The Fifth Path.

He stepped into the circle.

The system appeared.

[Choice principle required.]

Kael extended his hand.

“I choose to leave.”

Nothing happened.

He frowned.

Then—

he understood.

It wasn't asking him to choose himself.

It was asking everyone.

Kael turned toward the three Beasts.

“You choose.”

The Shadow Lion stepped forward.

“I choose to remain free.”

The portal flashed.

99% → 99.4%

The Verdant Serpent:

“I choose to protect my offspring.”

99.4% → 99.7%

The Bone Sovereign:

“I choose to remain myself.”

99.7% → 100%

The portal stabilized completely.

Kael smiled.

The System appeared.

[External Portal stabilized.]

[Transfer pathway secured.]

[Destination: Original World.]

[Return route available.]

Kael looked at the three Beasts.

“We can leave.”

The Shadow Lion nodded.

The Serpent lowered its head.

The Bone Sovereign looked toward the tower.

But none of them moved.

Kael frowned.

“You're not coming?”

The Shadow Lion answered:

“Our bodies belong here.”

The Serpent:

“Our history is here.”

The Bone Sovereign:

“And our unfinished duty is here.”

Kael understood.

The eggs would leave.

The Beasts would remain.

At least—

for now.

Kael looked at the three.

“Then I'll come back.”

The Shadow Lion smiled.

“When you are stronger.”

The Serpent added:

“When you are ready.”

The Bone Sovereign:

“And when the world no longer needs you elsewhere.”

Kael smiled.

“Deal.”

The Final Warning

Kael stepped toward the portal.

He was about to enter.

Then—

the entire world went silent.

The three Legendary Beasts looked toward the black tower.

Kael froze.

The System disappeared.

No warning.

No notification.

Nothing.

A heartbeat passed.

Then another.

The tower released a single pulse.

BOOM.

The black eye beneath it opened—

just slightly.

Not enough to awaken.

Enough to look.

Kael felt its gaze.

It wasn't anger.

It wasn't hatred.

It was recognition.

The voice entered his mind.

“You have chosen.”

Kael's eyes narrowed.

The voice continued.

“Then I will wait.”

Silence.

The eye closed.

The world returned to normal.

The System immediately came back.

[Ancient Entity: Dormant.]

[Awakening condition: Not yet satisfied.]

[Central Containment Integrity: 41%.]

Kael looked at the tower.

He touched the Shadow Seal inside his Space Ring.

He didn't use it.

Not yet.

The ancient entity remained sealed.

The pocket world was still stable enough to survive.

For the moment.

Kael turned toward the portal.

The three Legendary Beasts remained behind him.

The Shadow Lion's crimson eyes followed him.

The Verdant Serpent watched silently.

The Bone Sovereign bowed its head.

Kael stepped through.

But before the portal closed—

the Bone Sovereign spoke.

“Kael.”

Kael turned.

“Yes?”

The Sovereign's Soul Flame flickered.

“Do not use that seal until the entity begins to awaken.”

Kael nodded.

“I know.”

“You may only have one chance.”

“I know.”

“And when the time comes…”

The Sovereign looked toward the black tower.

“Do not try to kill it.”

Kael's expression hardened.

“Then what?”

The answer was quiet.

“Contain it.”

The portal closed.

Kael stood alone on the other side.

The real world.

The portal behind him collapsed into a thin line of light—

then disappeared.

He looked down at his Space Ring.

Three Legendary Beast eggs.

The Shadow Seal.

The special vessel.

The complete Darven inheritance.

Everything he had fought for was finally with him.

But he wasn't celebrating.

Because the moment he turned around—

the System displayed one final message.

[Pocket World Chapter Objective Complete.]

[Three Legendary Beast eggs secured: 3/3.]

[Four-Principle stabilization established.]

[External return route secured.]

[Ancient Entity: Dormant.]

Then—

the next line appeared.

[Future Event Registered.]

[Chapter 121 — Ancient Entity Awakening.]

Kael stared at the message.

His hand slowly tightened around the Origin Blade.

Behind him—

nothing remained.

Ahead—

the real world waited.

And beneath a world he had just left behind—

something ancient had begun to dream
