Chapter 90: Chapter 90 Serena’s Jealousy Grows 2

Talia’s POV

He nodded and gestured to the bench. "You can sit here and read. Whenever you want."

I nodded, moved to the place he had pointed, opened the book and began to read. The words blurred together at first, but I focused, and soon I was lost in the pages.

The sun climbed higher, and the shadows grew shorter. Jax and Silas talked quietly, and Kaelen sat beside me in silence.

After a while, I looked up from the book and my gaze stopped at her face.

Serena was standing near the window of the pack house, with her arms crossed, and her eyes fixed on Kaelen. Her gaze was hungry and possessive, and she did not blink.

I followed her eyes to Kaelen, and I saw that he was looking at me like an obsessed puppy. When I met his eyes, he looked away.

I glanced back at Serena, and I understood that was what she was looking at. Then her face twisted, and her hands clenched at her sides. Jealousy burned in her eyes, hot and sharp. Then they went cold, and she turned and walked away from the window, disappearing into the shadows of the pack house.

I watched the empty window for a moment, then looked back down at my book.

But I could not focus on the words anymore.

The letters on the page blurred together, and my mind kept wandering back to Serena’s face. The way her eyes had burned with jealousy, and the way her hands had clenched at her sides.

I knew that she wanted what I had. She wanted Kaelen, she wanted to be Luna, and she would do anything to get it.

I closed the book and set it on the bench beside me. Kaelen glanced at me but did not ask any questions.

Jax and Silas had stopped talking. They were watching me too, and their faces were unreadable.

"Is something wrong?" Jax asked.

"No," I said. "I am just tired."

Later that day, I walked through the hallways, and I heard whispers. Servants were talking in low voices, with their heads close together.

My footsteps slowed immediately when I heard the word SERENA.

"Did you hear?" one of them said. "Serena has been asking questions."

"What kind of questions?" another asked.

"She’s been asking about the Luna, about her past, about Cresswood, and about her mother," the first one replied.

My blood ran cold.

I stopped walking and pressed myself against the wall, hidden in the shadows.

"Why would she want to know about that?" another servant asked.

"I do not know, but she was asking everyone. From the guards to the kitchen staff, and even to some of the elders," the first servant said.

I pushed off the wall, tip-toed far away from them, and walked back to my room. My hands were shaking, and my heart was pounding.

Serena was planning something, and this time, it was something worse than before.

I closed the door behind me and leaned against it.

I had survived Vivienne, I had survived Celeste, and I had survived the negotiation with Alpha Stone.

But Serena was still here, still watching, still waiting, and now becoming a thorn in my flesh. And not just that—now she was digging into my past.

I touched my necklace, and felt the glamour charm tightly in place.

But Serena would not stop until she found something to use against me.

I thought about my mother, about the fire, and about the secrets that still lingered in Cresswood that I was yet to uncover.

If Serena dug deep enough into my life, she might find out about the glamour charm, about my real face, and about the power that had woken up inside me—a power I was yet to understand or trace.

I did not know what she would do with that information, but I knew it would not be good if she found out and exposed any of my secrets before I was ready to.

I sat on the edge of the bed and pressed my palms flat against the mattress.

I had survived Vivienne’s poison, and I had survived Alpha Stone’s rage. So I would have to survive Serena too.

I walked to the window and looked out at the valley. The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, as the mountains stood dark against the horizon.

Somewhere down there, in the pack house, Serena was plotting, asking questions, and digging into my past. She did not know what she was looking for. But I knew she would not stop until she found something.

I thought about Piper, about Nora, and about Elara. They had helped me before, and they would have to help me again.

I was not alone in this fight, because I could also ask Kaelen, Jax, Silas, and Cain for help.

I touched my necklace and made a promise to myself. I would not let Serena destroy me.

A knock came at the door at that moment. I stood up and opened it, only to see Piper standing in the hallway, with her eyes wide, and her face pale.

"Talia," she whispered. "I need to talk to you."

I pulled her inside and closed the door.

"What is wrong?" I asked.

"Serena came to see me," Piper said. "She was asking about Cresswood, about your mother, and about the fire."

My heart stopped. "What did you tell her?"

"Nothing. I told her I did not know anything, but I am sure she did not believe me." Piper grabbed my hands. "She said she would find out the truth no matter what it takes, and she said that no one could hide forever."

I stared at her, and my blood was cold.

"She is dangerous, Talia," Piper said. "More dangerous than Vivienne. Because she is smart, and she is patient."

"I know," I said.

"What are you going to do?" Piper asked.

I looked at the door, at the window, and at the shadows that seemed to creep closer.

"I am going to be ready," I said.
