The Hidden Luna of Blackmoor Valley
Chapter 59 The Drugged drink 2
Chapter 59: Chapter 59 The Drugged drink 2
Talia’s POV
I sat in my chair, with my hands folded in my lap, and my eyes on Vivienne.
She was still laughing, and she was watching me more than before.
The minutes passed, as wolves continued to laugh and drink and make toasts. Servants cleared used plates and brought back new plates of food called desserts that looked like fluffy cakes. The music played and changed into different tunes, and couples danced between the tables.
Then I saw Vivienne stand up.
She smoothed her dress and picked up two golden glasses from her table that looked filled with wine. I adjusted my sitting position and prepared myself to play along with her plans, without acting like I knew anything at all.
She walked toward me, as her heels echoed against the marbled floor despite the booming music. Her steps were slow, deliberate, and her smile was sharp, and her eyes were cold.
Celeste watched from behind her, and her face twisted with anticipation.
Vivienne stopped in front of me. "Luna Talia," she said, her voice dripping with sweetness. "Here is a toast to your new life."
She handed me the glass and I took it.
The golden glass was cool against my fingers, and the wine inside was dark red, almost black.
"Thank you," I said.
Vivienne raised her own glass, which was the same golden glass as mine, and it had the same dark wine just like mine.
"To the Shadowfang Pack’s new Luna," she said. "May her reign be... memorable."
She gave me a brighter smile, and I smiled back, but I did not drink.
Vivienne’s eyes narrowed. "Is something wrong?"
"No." I held the glass tighter. "I was just... savoring the moment."
She laughed. "Of course, Luna, please do." But she still did not move. She just stood there, waiting.
I could feel the eyes of the other wolves on us, looking curious and suspicious, and waiting to see what I would do.
I thought of what to do at that moment, because I could not pour it out, I could not refuse, and I could not drink either.
"Drink," Vivienne said. Her voice was still sweet, but there was an edge to it now. "It would be rude to refuse a toast, would it not?"
I looked at the golden glass in my hand, which was filled with dark wine.
I thought about Elara’s warning, and about Piper’s plan. But Vivienne was right here watching me, and I could not do anything with her standing over me.
Then, an idea came to my mind: to pretend I was drinking it, so I could avoid the whispers of the crowd.
"Of course," I said. "I would never refuse a toast."
I raised the glass to my lips, so I could pretend to drink it, but at that moment Kaelen turned around, saw Vivienne, and held the glass before it could even touch my lips.
He smiled at me and said, "You cannot drink anymore when we have not had our first dance yet."
I lowered the glass gratefully with a smile, and let out a breath I did not know I was holding.
Vivienne was still watching, but her smile had cracked just a little.
Kaelen turned to look at her, but his face showed no kindness. "We could do a toast sometime later, Luna Vivienne, but for now, I would love to dance with my Luna."
Vivienne smiled. "Of course, Alpha Kaelen." Then she turned and walked back to her table.
Kaelen stretched his hand towards me, and I set the glass down on the table, and took his hand.
The feast continued, as wolves laughed and talked and drank. The music played a fast beat, but Alpha Kaelen gave a sign to one of his men and whispered to him, while pointing at the music direction.
He pulled me to my feet as the music changed to a slow tune. And candles flickered as we walked slowly to the center of the hall.
My heart was pounding, and my mind racing as we walked, but it was not just because of the dance that was about to happen. Even though it also made me very nervous, since I had never danced with anyone before, and all eyes were on us.
I was beginning to worry about our plans, because I needed to switch the glasses of drinks, so Vivienne could have a taste of her own medicine. But it was not going according to the plan.
Every time I looked at where Vivienne stood, her eyes were on me. And Celeste looked like she could explode from rage, as she watched me and Kaelen walk towards the dance floor.
I knew they were waiting for me to drink, waiting for the poison to work, and waiting for me to make a fool of myself in front of everyone. But what they were not waiting for, was our plan to get back at them.
I looked around the hall and saw Piper. She was near the back, pretending to be a servant, and when she caught my eye, she nodded to let me know she was ready.
Now I just needed an opportunity to strike.
