The Hidden Luna of Blackmoor Valley
Chapter 390 The battle promise 1
Chapter 390: Chapter 390 The battle promise 1
Talia’s POV
The fire had died down to embers, and the room was dark.
We lay together in the silence, and I could feel the weight of the night pressing down on us. The wind had stopped whispering, and the world outside was still. It felt like the whole valley was holding its breath, waiting for the dawn.
I could not see the sky from where I lay, but I could feel the change in the air. The darkness was different now. It was not the heavy darkness of midnight, it was the soft, gray darkness that came just before the light.
Kaelen’s hand was on my back, and I could feel his fingers tracing slow circles on my skin. He had been quiet for a long time, and I knew he was thinking about something.
I had learned to read his silences. Some were peaceful, and some were tired, but this one was different. This one was heavy, like he was carrying something he did not know how to put down.
"Kaelen," I said, and my voice was soft in the darkness. "What is it?"
He was quiet for a moment. Then he spoke, and his voice was barely a whisper. "I am scared, Talia."
I turned in his arms, and I looked at him. His gray eyes were dark in the dim light, and I could see the fear in them. It was the same fear I had seen in my own eyes when I looked in the mirror.
"You are scared?" I asked.
He nodded, and I felt his hand tighten on my back. "I am scared of losing you. I am scared of what will happen tomorrow, and I am scared that I will not be able to protect you."
I had never heard him admit fear like this. He had always been the strong one, the Alpha, and the one who stood tall while everyone else fell apart. But now, in the darkness, he was just a man. A man who was terrified of losing the woman he loved.
I reached up, and I touched his face. "You do not have to protect me, Kaelen. We protect each other."
He looked at me, and I saw the tears in his gray eyes. "Promise me you will come back."
I felt the tears burning in my own eyes. "I promise."
He shook his head, and his voice was desperate. "Promise me."
"I promise," I said again, and I meant it with everything I had.
The words felt heavy on my tongue, but they were not a burden. They were a vow, and a strong promise. I would come back to him, I would fight for him, and I would keep my word.
He pulled me closer, and I felt his lips press against my forehead. "I cannot lose you, Talia. I cannot."
I pulled back, and I looked at him. "You will not lose me, Kaelen, because I will come back. I will fight beside you, and I will come back."
He looked at me, and I saw the doubt in his eyes. "How do you know?"
I reached up, and I touched his face. "Because I have something to come back to. I have you."
He looked at me, and I saw the tears streaming down his face. "Promise me the same thing," I said. "Promise me you will come back."
I watched his face as he made his promise. I saw the way his jaw tightened, and I saw the way his eyes never left mine. He was not just saying the words, it was as if he was carving them into his soul.
He nodded, and his voice was thick. "I promise."
I pulled him closer, and I pressed my lips to his. The kiss was soft, and it was gentle. It was the kind of kiss that said everything we could not say with words. But then it deepened, and I felt the heat rising between us like a flame catching dry wood.
His hands moved to my waist, pulling me closer, and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
When he pulled back, his forehead rested against mine, and his breath was warm on my lips.
"I have been waiting for this," he said. "Waiting for you."
I smiled. "I have been waiting too."
He kissed me again, and this time, there was no stopping.
The kiss was hungry, and desperate, like we had been waiting for this moment for too long. I felt his hands on my body, and I knew that nothing would stop us this time.
We rolled onto the bed together, with our bodies tangled, and our lips never parting. His hands moved to the hem of my dress, and he pulled it over my head. I did the same with his shirt, with my fingers tracing the planes of his chest.
His skin was warm beneath my fingers, and I could feel the muscles in his shoulders shifting as he moved. The strength that had been stolen from him during the silver training had returned fully now, and I could feel it in every touch.
"You are healed," I whispered.
"Yes," he said. "I am healed, and I am yours."
He kissed my neck, my collarbone, and my chest. I gasped at the feel of his lips on my skin, and my fingers curled into his hair. His hands roamed my body, gentle but insistent.
I could feel the strength in his touch, and the power that had returned to him. He was not holding back anymore, and neither was I.
And I felt the heat building inside me.
