Chapter 380 The Awakening
Chapter 380: Chapter 380 The Awakening
Talia’s POV
I walked back to our room, and I felt the magic still humming beneath my skin.
The lightning had faded, but the power had not. It was still there, thrumming through my veins like a second heartbeat. I pressed my hand against my chest, and I could feel it pulsing beneath my palm.
I did not know what to do with it. The power was still there, and it was still growing. It was not just the magic anymore, it was something deeper, and something that had been sleeping inside me for my entire life.
Kaelen was waiting for me when I entered our room. He was sitting on the edge of the bed, and he looked up when I walked in. His gray eyes were soft, and I could see the worry in them.
"Talia," Kaelen said, and his voice was soft. "You were out late."
I nodded, and I walked to him. "I was training."
Kaelen reached for my hand, and I felt the warmth of his fingers against mine. "You need to rest."
I could see the exhaustion in his gray eyes, and I knew he had been waiting for me for a long time, and he must have been worried. He was always worried about me.
I shook my head, and I felt the restlessness still burning inside me. "I cannot rest. Something is happening to me, Kaelen."
Kaelen looked at me, and I saw the concern deepening in his gray eyes. He pulled me down to sit beside him, and he kept my hand in his.
"What do you mean?" Kaelen asked.
I closed my eyes, and I felt her: Lyra. She was stirring inside me, but it was different this time. It felt as if she was waking up inside of me for the first time. And she was not just waking up, it also felt as if she was rising.
"Talia," Lyra said, and her voice was stronger than it had ever been. "Something is changing inside us. I can feel it. Can you?"
I opened my eyes, and I looked at Kaelen. "Lyra is awakening. Fully."
The words had barely left my mouth when I felt it. A warmth spread through my chest, and it was different from the magic I had been practicing. It was deeper, and it was alive. It pulsed through my veins like a second heartbeat, and then it exploded outward.
Light burst from my hands, bright and golden. It was not the controlled glow of my voice magic, and it was not the focused lightning of the Song of Storms. This was raw and wild, and it filled the room with a warm glow that danced across the walls and the ceiling.
Kaelen stepped back, and I saw the shock on his face. His gray eyes were wide, and his mouth had fallen open.
"Talia," Kaelen said, and his voice was barely a whisper. "What is happening?"
I looked at my hands, and I saw the light fading. The glow dimmed until it was gone, leaving only the soft flicker of the fire in the hearth. I felt the power settle inside me, and I felt it waiting to be released.
Kaelen looked at me, and I saw the confusion flickering in his gray eyes. "What is happening? What does that mean, Talia?"
I shook my head, and I let out a slow breath. "I do not know, Kaelen. But I can feel it. It is like a door is opening inside me, a door that has been closed for my entire life."
I had felt the door before, in moments of danger and fear. But I had never felt it open, not like this, and not all the way at least.
I felt the change spread through me. It was not like my magic either. This was deeper, and it was primal.
Suddenly, my senses sharpened, like something snapping into place, and I could hear the heartbeat of the wolf in the next room. I could smell the dew on the grass outside, and I could feel the vibrations of the earth beneath my feet.
"Kaelen," I said, and my voice was barely a whisper. "I can feel everything."
Kaelen stepped closer, and I felt his hand on my arm. "What do you mean, Talia?"
I closed my eyes, and I reached out with my senses. I could feel the wolves in the pack house, I could feel the forest around us, and I could feel the creatures in the trees.
I could feel the heartbeats of my pack too. I could feel their dreams, their fears, and their hopes. It was overwhelming, and it was beautiful, and it was mine.
And then I felt something else. Something that seems to be farther away.
I felt them, like a day’s travel away. It was a pack of wolves that were not ours, and not allied with us either.
"Kaelen," I said, and my voice was sharp. "There are enemies a day’s travel from here. Maybe less."
Kaelen looked at me, and I saw the shock in his gray eyes. "How do you know?"
I shook my head, and I let the words come. "I can feel them, and Lyra can feel them. They are coming."
Kaelen’s jaw tightened. "Malachai’s armies are here?"
I shook my head. “They are too few to be an army.” I said.
Kaelen’s jaw tightened even more. “Are they Malachai’s scouts?”
I nodded. "Probably. They are getting closer."
Kaelen reached for me, and he pulled me into his arms. "Then we prepare faster. We are ready anyways."
I pulled back, and I looked at Kaelen. I felt the power surging through me, and I felt the sharpness of my instincts.
"I am not the same person I was," I said, and my voice was steady. "I am not just a woman anymore."
Kaelen looked at me, and I saw the love in his gray eyes. "What are you, Talia?"
I took a breath, and I let the words come. "I am a warrior. I am a Silvertongue, I am the last of my bloodline, and I am ready."
Kaelen pulled me into his arms, and I felt his warmth against me. "Then we fight together."
I pressed my face into his chest. "Together."
I smiled knowing that I was no longer just a woman, I was a warrior.
