Chapter 170: Chapter 170 The Battle is won - Victory 2

Talia’s POV

(Readers discretion are advised)

He was fueled by love, by rage, and by the will to protect his pack.

He was moving at a fast speed, striking Viktor again, and again, and again. This time, Viktor could barely land a hit on Kaelen.

It was as if Kaelen was possessed by a strong power, that suddenly made him unstoppable.

Viktor dodged, and tried to block Kaelen’s strike, but it was of no use because shortly after Kaelen released his claw, and tore at Viktor’s face, he drove his claws into Viktor’s chest.

The sound was sickening, with the crunch of bone and the tear of flesh. I watched Viktor’s body go rigid, and I knew that Kaelen had struck him with the final blow, and it was over.

Viktor’s eyes went wide, and his mouth opened, but no sound came out. He looked down at the wound, then back up at Kaelen, and he looked like he could not believe what had just happened.

Then he fell, face flat.

His body hit the ground with a heavy thud, and he did not move. He did not shake, and he did not get up again.

The battlefield was silent for a moment.

No one moved, and no one spoke. Then I released the power holding the rest of the wolves.

The frozen wolves gasped, some stumbled, and others fell to their knees.

I watched them come back to life, with their bodies shaking, and their eyes wide with confusion. They looked around, trying to understand what had just happened, and then they saw Viktor’s body, and they understood.

The rogue wolves stared at Viktor’s body, and I could see the disbelief in their eyes. The greatly feared Viktor, and the Alpha who had terrorized so many packs, was dead.

The Shadowfang wolves looked around, confused, then they looked at Viktor’s body. They looked at Kaelen, who was standing over the rogue Alpha, then they howled.

The sound was deafening.

It was a sound of pure joy and relief. It was a sound that told the world that Shadowfang had survived. I felt the howl rise in my own chest, but I did not join them, because I was too busy watching Kaelen.

The sound echoed across the courtyard, rolling over the walls and into the forest beyond. It was the sound of victory, and the sound of wolves who had survived.

The rogues saw their Alpha fall, they saw their army crumbling around them, and they turned and ran, scattering into the forest like leaves blown by the wind.

No one bothered to chase them.

They had lost their Alpha, they had lost their army, and they had lost the battle. They were broken, scattered, and defeated, and we knew that they would not return.

So there was no need to chase after them.

Kaelen turned to me, and his body swayed, with his legs buckling beneath him. I rushed to him and caught him before he fell.

"We won," he said, with his voice that was barely a whisper.

"Yes," I answered, as tears filled my eyes. "We won."

He looked at me, and he smiled. It was a weak smile, but it was real.

I could see the pain in his eyes, and the exhaustion in his body. But I could also see the love, the relief, and the pride of an Alpha, that he had won.

We had won.

Suddenly, Kaelen’s eyes fluttered for a brief moment.

I saw his grip on consciousness slipping, and I felt my heart drop into my stomach. He was slipping away, and I could not lose him.

I could not lose my mate.

The thought of a world without him was too much to bear. So I held him tighter, as if I could keep him with me by will alone.

Then his body went limp in my arms. He was losing consciousness fast, as the silver had taken too much from him.

"Kaelen!" I screamed. "HEALERS! SOMEONE GET THE HEALERS!!!"

Wolves were already running, and I saw Elena pushing through the crowd, with her face pale, and her hands already reaching for Kaelen. I saw the other healers behind her, carrying a stretcher.

Then, they took him from me.

Every instinct screamed at me to hold on, to keep him close, and to never let him go. But I knew that if I did, he would die. I had to trust the healers, and I had to let them save him.

I did not want to let go, but I had to. I had to let the healers do their job, and get him the help that he needs as fast as possible.

I watched them lay him on the stretcher, with his body limp, and his breathing shallow.

I could see the color draining from his face, and I could see the silver still burning in his wounds. It had taken so much from him, but he was still alive, and he was still breathing. And as long as he was still breathing, there was hope.

Soon, his chest barely moved, as the silver had poisoned him badly.

I followed beside the healers in hurried steps, and I did not stop following them.
