Chapter 166: Chapter 166 Talia’s Intervention 2
Talia’s POV
(Readers discretion are advised)
If Cain won, Shadowfang would rise. But if the Beta of Viktor won, then, the rogues would believe they could still win.
They circled each other, with their weapons raised. The Beta swung first, with his claws aimed at Cain’s throat. Cain ducked and drove his sword into the Beta’s side. The rogue howled, but he did not fall.
He lunged again, and Cain was forced to retreat.
The Beta was strong, but Cain was stronger. He drove his sword into the Beta’s side, and the blade sank deep, and I heard the Beta’s howl of pain, but Cain did not stop. He twisted the blade, and the Beta’s howl turned into a gurgle.
Blood poured from his mouth, and his eyes went wide. The rogue beta fell, but not before his claws raked across Cain’s arm.
I saw the blood well up from the wound, and I saw Cain wince, but he did not stop. He raised his sword and brought it down with all his strength. The blade sank deep, and the Beta stopped moving.
Another rogue charged at Cain from behind, with his claws raised.
I saw him coming, and I opened my mouth to try and scream a warning. But before the words could leave my lips, an arrow flew through the air. It struck the rogue in the chest, and he fell.
I looked up to trace where the arrow had come from.
I followed the direction that the arrow had come from, with my eyes scanning the walls, and searching for the shooter.
And there he was.
I spotted Jax, as he stood on the wall, with his bow still raised, and a smirk on his face. He had always been the joker, and the one who never took anything seriously. But right now, he looked like a warrior, with a bright smile across his face.
I could see Jax clearly now.
He was covered in blood and sweat, but he was smiling as always. He had saved Cain, he had saved the pack from another loss, and I knew that, he would not stop fighting until the battle was won.
Viktor saw it all. He saw his Beta fall, he saw the rogue fall, and he knew that his army was crumbling around him.
Then he roared.
The sound was filled with fury and grief. It echoed across the battlefield, shaking the ground beneath my feet.
He turned on Kaelen with renewed rage.
I saw the fury in his eyes. He had lost his Beta, and he had lost most of his army.
Viktor was alone now that his second-in-command was dead. His rogues were dying in the courtyard, and the plan that Vivienne and Serena had helped him create, was falling apart fast before his eyes, and he knew it.
I could see the desperation in his eyes.
And now, his rage showed that, he was prepared to take everything from Kaelen. He would destroy him, crush him, and end him.
To him, nothing else mattered.
His claws swung wildly, and Kaelen was too slow to dodge. The silver claws raked across his chest again, and this time, Kaelen fell.
His knees hit the ground, and his body swayed. He tried to stand, but his legs would not obey. I knew that the effects of the silver were too strong now.
Viktor walked closer, and stood over him.
I could see the triumph in his eyes, like he had won. Kaelen was on his knees, helpless, and broken. The sight of him like that, was worse than any wound I had ever received.
My strong, powerful Alpha, was on his knees, bleeding, and dying my eyes. It was a sight that would haunt me forever. And I knew that if I did not act, I would never see him stand again.
Viktor raised his claws, and I knew that if I did nothing but watch, Kaelen would die, the bond would snap, and I would lose everything.
Viktor stood tall, with his massive body blocking out the firelight. He hit his claws together, as if he was sharpening it for the killing blow.
"You lose, you weak and pathetic Alpha, but you have refused to admit defeat." he said, letting out a broken, and ugly laugh. “Now, say goodbye to your pack, because I would not only enjoy killing you, I would also be sure to enjoy your Luna, on your behalf.” he raised his claws again.
In that moment, I could almost not breathe, and I could barely move.
Then, something stirred inside me.
It started in my chest very hot, with a warmth that grew into a fire, then it spread through my veins, filling my body with power. It was like the first time I had shifted, like the first time I had felt Lyra’s presence, and it was the same power that I felt back at the negotiation with Alpha stone, at Stoneclaw pack.
I remembered that moment.
I remembered the fear, the pain, and the joy, but this was not the same. The power was even older, and deeper this time, with a bit of heat, that felt like rage. I knew that it was the same one that came from my mother’s bloodline, and the one that came from the Silvertongues.
And just like the last time, it was demanding to be released, and it was surging fast.
I tried to hold it back, and I tried to push it down, so that it could slow down, but it was too strong. It was like trying to hold back a river with my bare hands, which was impossible. The power wanted out, it wanted to be heard, and it wanted to save the wolf I loved.
But this was different from the last time it surfaced, and this was bigger.
The power surged, it burned, and it pushed at my chest, like it was demanding to be released, and like it would burst out, whether I let it, or not.
I stepped forward.
My legs felt like they were moving on their own. I did not remember deciding to walk, and I did not remember telling my body to move. But I was walking toward Viktor, toward Kaelen, and toward the fight that would decide everything.
Viktor’s claws were still raised at Kaelen, but he had not seen me. It seemed like one had seen me.
I opened my mouth, and the power exploded from my chest.
I felt it pulse through my veins like liquid fire, as it surged up my throat, filling my mouth, my lungs, and my entire being.
It was terrifying, and it was beautiful, and wonderful, at the same time.
I was no longer just Talia, I was something more, something ancient, and something powerful.
