Chapter 83: Serena’s Capture

Talia’s POV

The chaos of the battle swallowed everything around me.

I could barely hear my own thoughts over the noise; the roar of the flames, the clash of swords, and the screams of the dying. It was overwhelming, but I could not let it overwhelm me. I had to stay focused, and I had to keep fighting, because there was no other option.

The east wall had collapsed, and rogues were pouring through the breach like a flood of darkness. Warriors were fighting desperately to hold the line.

I saw one warrior fall, then another.

The rogues were relentless, and they were climbing over the bodies of their fallen to reach us, but our warriors did not retreat. They stood their ground, shields raised, and swords swinging. They knew what was at stake; their families were behind those walls, their homes, and their lives.

The air was thick with smoke and blood and the continued screams of the dying.

I fought beside Kaelen, with my fists swinging, and my body aching at the same time.

My arms were heavy, and my lungs burned, but I could not stop. I would not stop, because lives depended on it.

Every time I thought I could not go on, I looked at Kaelen, and I looked at the wolves fighting beside me. I thought of Piper, Nora, the mother and her pup in the safe rooms with other pack members that needed to be in safety.

I thought of the future we were fighting for, and I kept going.

Every rogue that fell before me, was one less threat to my pack. But there were always more. They kept coming, wave after wave, relentless and hungry.

Then I saw Viktor again.

He was a beast. His body was covered in blood and fur, and his eyes glowed with a cold, and calculating light. He moved like a predator, like a wolf who had been killing for years and had never known defeat. I could feel the power radiating from him, with the weight of his presence pressing down on me.

He was pushing through the chaos toward the main gate, and his eyes were fixed on Kaelen. He was targeting my mate, and I felt my blood run cold.

I opened my mouth to shout a warning. But before the words could leave my lips, a commotion erupted near the main gate.

Wolves were shouting, that someone had been caught.

I pushed through the crowd and saw them.

The crowd parted as I moved forward, and I saw the w+arriors first, with their faces hard, and their hands gripping Someone’s arms.

Then I saw her.

Serena’s dress was torn, and her hair was wild. She looked nothing like the elegant, composed woman who had always looked down on me. She looked broken, but I did not feel sorry for her.

Warriors were dragging Serena toward the center of the courtyard. Her hands were bound in chains, and her face was pale. Her dress was torn, and there was dirt on her cheeks.

One of the warriors stepped forward. "We caught her trying to open the gate, Alpha. She was letting the rogues in."

I felt the shock ripple through the crowd.

Wolves stared at Serena with disbelief. I knew that some of them had grown up with her, and some of them had trusted her. And she had betrayed them all, by trading their lives for her foolishness and revenge, to the enemy, Viktor.

The courtyard went silent, on our part at least, and I stared at Serena.

My mind raced back to all the moments I had ignored. The way she always seemed to be watching, the questions she asked about my past, and the way she looked at Kaelen with longing and hate. I should have seen it coming, and I should have known that she would do something like this.

I remembered the way she looked at me with jealousy, the way she asked questions about Cresswood, and the way she always seemed to be watching. But I never thought she would do this, and I never thought she would betray her own pack.

Kaelen stepped forward.

I watched his face, only to see that there was no pity in his eyes, there was only ice. He had trusted Serena, and he had given her a place in the pack. And she had repaid him by trying to destroy everything he had built.

His eyes were far it voice was cold. "Is this true?"

Serena did not answer.

She seemed smaller than I remembered. The defiance was gone, and replaced by something else. Was it fear? Shame? Or just the hollow emptiness of someone who had lost everything? I did not know, and i did not care.

Her eyes were fixed on the ground.

Kaelen’s jaw tightened. "You betrayed your pack. You betrayed everyone."

Serena looked up, and her eyes were filled with hate. "You chose her," she said, pointing at me. "You chose a liar over me. I was supposed to be Luna. I was supposed to be yours."

My heart pounded. I did not know what to say.

Kaelen stepped closer to Serena. His voice was low and dangerous. "Take her to the dungeons. She will be punished when this battle is over."

The warriors dragged her away. Serena struggled against them, screaming curses. "You will not survive this battle! Viktor will destroy you! And when he does, I will be there to watch!"

I watched Serena disappear into the chaos. I did not feel satisfaction. I felt hollow.

She had thrown away everything. Her pack. Her home. Her life. All because of jealousy. All because she could not stand that Kaelen had chosen me over her. I almost pitied her. Almost. But then I remembered the rogues pouring through the breach, and I pushed the thought aside.

But there was no time to think about Serena. The battle was still raging. Viktor was still coming.

Kaelen shifted fully. His wolf was large and powerful, his dark fur gleaming with blood and sweat. He lunged at a group of rogues, tearing through them with savage speed. He was no longer just fighting. He was destroying.

I watched him for a moment, my heart swelling with pride. He was magnificent. Fierce. Unstoppable.

I watched him tear through another rogue, his teeth sinking into its throat. He was fighting not just with his body, but with his soul. Every strike was a promise. Every kill was a declaration. He would not let them take our home. He would not let them win.

Then I turned back to the battle.

Across the courtyard, Cain was fighting with brutal efficiency. His sword moved like lightning, and rogues fell before him in waves. He did not hesitate. He did not slow down. He was a machine of death. Every strike found its mark. Every rogue that crossed his path met the same fate.

Silas fought beside him, his movements controlled and precise. He was not as fast as Cain, but every strike found its mark. Rogues dropped at his feet like stones. He was calm, steady, unshakable. Even in the middle of chaos, he did not lose his focus.

I could see the focus in Silas’s eyes. He was not fighting with rage. He was fighting with precision. Every step was calculated. Every strike was deliberate. He was a strategist on the battlefield, turning chaos into order.

And Jax—Jax was everywhere. He moved through the chaos like a dancer, his sword flashing, his laughter ringing out even in the middle of death. He taunted the rogues, drawing their attention, then cut them down before they could react. He was faster than I had ever seen him. His blade was a blur, and the rogues could not keep up.

The rogues were falling faster now.

I felt a shift in the energy of the battle. Our wolves were no longer just holding the line. They were advancing. They were driving the rogues back, step by step, with every sword swing and claw strike. The tide was turning.

The Shadowfang wolves were pushing them back. The battle was turning in our favor.

I felt a surge of hope. We could win this. We were winning.

I reached for Lyra. "We fight together," I said.

"Yes," she said. "We are one."

I shifted fully. My wolf was large and powerful, my silver fur streaked with gold. I lunged at a rogue and tore through him with my claws. I moved through the chaos, fighting beside my pack.

The rogues kept coming, but we kept pushing. We were stronger. We were faster.

I could feel Lyra’s strength flowing through me, her determination, her courage. She was not afraid. She had never been afraid. And neither was I.

We were fighting for our home, our families, our future.

And we were not going to lose.
