Chapter 116: Chapter 116 The young wolf lives 1
Talia’s POV
I turned away from the warriors and looked back beside the fallen log where Finn was hiding. His face was pale, and his eyes were barely open, and blood was still soaking through his pants.
"Come on," I said. "I am taking you to the healers."
I reached for him, but before I could lift him, a warrior approached me. He was young, maybe a few years older than me, and his face was streaked with dirt and sweat.
"Luna," he said. "Let us carry him. You are wounded."
I looked at his outstretched hands, then at Finn’s pale face.
"No," I said. "I will carry him myself."
The warrior hesitated. His eyes moved across my bleeding arm, my torn shirt, and the scratches on my face. He looked like he wanted to argue, I could see it in his eyes.
But he did not.
He stepped back, and the other warriors behind him stepped back too. None of them argued, and none of them tried to take Finn from me.
I lifted Finn onto my back again. His weight pressed down on me, heavier than before, or maybe I was just weaker.
Every step was a battle, as my body screamed at me to stop, to rest, and to give up. But I could not, because Finn’s blood was on my hands, and his life was in my arms.
I would definitely not let him die, not after everything, not after the fight to stay alive, and not after the forest battle.
So, I kept walking.
My legs trembled beneath me, and my arms shook, but I did not stop.
I walked across the open field toward the pack house.
The grass was soft beneath my feet, and the sun was warm on my face, but I barely felt any of it. My whole body was burning, and my vision kept blurring at the edges, and every step felt like I was walking through deep water.
Behind me, the warriors followed. I could hear their footsteps on the grass, and I could hear them whispering to each other, but I did not turn around to look at them.
I just kept walking.
The pack house grew larger with every step I took. I could see wolves gathering at the gates, but their faces blurred in the distance. Some of them pointed at me, while others just stared. I did not know if they were staring at the blood on my clothes or at Finn on my back or at the warriors following behind me like a procession. But it did not matter.
Nothing mattered except putting one foot in front of the other until I reached the healers.
The healers hall was chaotic when I reached it.
The doors were wide open, and healers were rushing in every direction, carrying bandages and herbs and bowls of water. Wounded wolves lay on beds along the walls, and the air smelled of blood and medicine and something sharp that burned my nose.
I walked inside and looked for an empty bed.
There was one in the corner, near the window, so I carried Finn to it and laid him down as gently as I could. His head touched the pillow, and his eyes fluttered open.
"We are here," I said. "You are safe now."
A healer appeared at my side. She was an older woman with gray hair and kind eyes, and her hands were already reaching for me.
"Luna," she said. "Let me look at your wounds. You are bleeding..."
"Help him first," I said.
I pointed at Finn. "His leg is broken, and he has lost a lot of blood. Help him before you help me."
The healer looked at Finn, then at me. Her kind eyes narrowed, and I could see her wanting to argue.
But she did not.
She nodded and turned to Finn. She began cleaning his wounds, wrapping his leg, and stopping the bleeding. I watched every movement, every bandage, and every stitch.
I did not look away, not even once.
Every stitch the healer made, I watched, and every bandage she wrapped, I followed with my eyes. I needed to see him survive, and I needed to know that the fight meant something.
I needed to know that the blood on my hands was not for nothing, and that Finn would live. He had to pull through.
Finn’s eyes found mine from across the bed. His face was still pale, but his lips moved, and I leaned closer to hear him.
"Thank you, Luna," he whispered.
I nodded. "You are safe now. Rest."
His eyes closed, and his breathing slowed, and I watched his chest rise and fall until I was sure he was still alive.
Then my legs gave out.
I did not even feel myself fall. One moment I was standing beside Finn’s bed, and the next moment I was on the floor, with someone’s arms around my shoulders, holding me up.
"Luna! Someone help me!" a voice shouted.
A healer had caught me. Her face was blurry above me, and her voice sounded far away, like she was calling to me from the other end of a long tunnel.
"The Luna is collapsing. Get me a bed, NOW." She shouted again.
