The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered

Chapter 257 - 256: These Two Are Enemies, Definitely Enemies

  • Next Chapter

Lynn White’s smile froze for a moment. ’Damn it... I might as well have just let him figure it out.’

"Old Man White, stop making a scene! President Grant’s and President Lowell’s abilities are plain for everyone in the business world to see. What nonsense are you spouting? I think you must be too tired lately; your head’s all muddled!"

Even Charles Lowell almost couldn’t keep a straight face. ’Are these two really a married couple?!’

’Doesn’t that sound exactly like she’s saying Ethan Bishop isn’t cut out for business, and on top of that, has a screw loose? That’s why he’s mindlessly running around barking and biting at everyone he sees?’

If Lynn White’s first sentence made some people think that the couple was, as expected, equally stupid...

...then this moment was the final piece of evidence. ’These two are enemies, absolute enemies!’

Mrs. Grant laughed out loud without a shred of courtesy. She had grown up in the grand compound with Old Master Ford, and back then, she would go from one house to the next, picking fights. She had always been brutally honest.

Later, Old Master Ford, worried that his daughter’s habit of picking fights everywhere meant he would constantly have to clean up her messes, simply sent her to the Sutton Family for an extended stay. He hoped she would absorb some of Wendy Sutton’s high-society, ladylike grace.

In the end, not only did she fail to absorb any of that grace, but she also got Wendy Sutton to start talking like a sailor.

Besides, given her status and background, she wasn’t about to show them any courtesy.

Yvonne Lowell furrowed her brow in irritation. It was true she was a little curious about Lynn White’s abnormal behavior, but she had absolutely no interest in hearing this idiot go on and on with his "baby" talk.

’It’s like this fool is intentionally lowering his own IQ just to get Charles Lowell and Mr. Grant’s attention. I’d rather go gossip with Dad later than stand here and let my ears be tortured.’

So, she turned to Charles Lowell and the others. "It’s about time. Should we head next door?"

The anniversary’s arts gala and distinguished alumni speeches were scheduled in the other wing of the auditorium; this area was just a temporary lounge.

"Alright, let’s get going."

Charles Lowell, of course, had no objections. He couldn’t wait to get far away from this narcissist and avoid being tainted by bad luck.

’The man had always been like this, a total psycho, constantly imagining them as his sworn rivals.’

’He had to compete with them over everything, and whenever he lost, he’d start making snide remarks about their family backgrounds, claiming they only got ahead because of their families and their fathers.’

’The girls he liked rejected him, and of course, it was because our family backgrounds attracted all the female students’ attention.’

’Even the fact that his grades were at the bottom of the class every year, that he failed his courses, and that he had to delay his graduation for several years—that was all supposedly because we had good fathers.’

’When he got on their nerves too much, they’d throw a sack over his head and drag him into the woods. But even after they beat him up several times, he didn’t learn his lesson. He’d show up to run his mouth at them, even with his face swollen up like a pig’s head.’

’If we hadn’t grown up used to these kinds of sour, jealous remarks, if we hadn’t thought his pathetic, insignificant provocations were completely beneath us, would he even be standing here today with a wife young enough to be his daughter on his arm?’

The group didn’t even bother saying goodbye as they turned to leave.

The other onlookers also turned away, pretending to resume their own conversations as if nothing had happened.

But Ethan Bishop, like a dog that had just caught the scent of its main course, saw Charles Lowell and Mr. Grant leaving and immediately chased after them, cutting off his "baby" talk mid-sentence.

"Why the hurry to leave? Did I hit a nerve? Feeling a little flustered?"

Lynn White: ’I... !@#$%^&...! You can’t reason with a damned fool who’s determined to die!’

Yvonne Lowell subtly tugged on Charles Lowell’s arm and turned around, her expression displeased. Her cool eyes were devoid of any warmth.

"Excuse me, Mr. White, but were my father and Uncle Grant the unrequited loves of your past? Is that why you feel the need to harass them so relentlessly?"

Charles Lowell and Mr. Grant: ’Well... for a moment there, we couldn’t quite tell who she was insulting.’

Ethan Bishop’s face darkened for a moment, but his tone became strangely unnatural.

"Unrequited love? I—what nonsense are you spouting? That’s slander!"

Yvonne Lowell shot a strange look back at the two men in question. *Hiss.* ’Wait, don’t tell me my random comment actually hit the mark...’

’But which one was the unrequited love?!’

But now wasn’t the time to dwell on that. A sarcastic smile touched Yvonne Lowell’s lips.

"Oh, so Mr. White does know what slander is. A moment ago, you were spouting nothing but rumors and slander. I was starting to think you were ignorant of the law."

"What rumors did I spread? If they didn’t have good fathers and good family backgrounds, would they be where they are today? They act so high and mighty every day—what right do they have?!"

Lynn White’s hand on his arm was clenched so tightly that her knuckles turned white, but she still couldn’t get him to shut up.

’Damn it, why won’t this man listen to reason?’

’She wanted to see him make a fool of himself, but not while she was standing right here with him! Hello?!’

’If her plan were already complete, would she need to be here, suffering this humiliation alongside him?!’

Yvonne Lowell watched him with a smirk.

"On what grounds? You just said it yourself. On the grounds that they have good fathers and good family backgrounds. What’s the matter? Don’t you have those? If not, you should probably go home and ask your esteemed father why he didn’t work harder when he was young."

Yvonne Lowell’s voice wasn’t loud, but we Aurelians have a love for drama etched into our very DNA. Everyone lowered their voices, some even shutting up completely, to listen in with rapt attention.

Thus, Yvonne Lowell’s words carried clearly to everyone nearby, and more than a few people couldn’t help but chuckle.

’If that Bishop guy wanted to claim the two tycoons only got where they are today by riding their fathers’ coattails, then we "NPCs" in the crowd weren’t about to just listen quietly.’

Family background was a factor, of course, but anyone in the business world knew that back when the Grant-Lowell duo joined forces to conquer the corporate world, even seasoned merchants at their level were left with nothing but scraps.

People thought that with the two of them retiring, they’d finally have some breathing room. But it turned out the two had actually been holding back.

Now that their sons had taken the helm, everyone else could barely afford the dregs.

The only way to survive was to jump into the rat race and compete just as insanely.

’Everyone has kids, so how is it that when *they* have kids, the talent isn’t just inherited, it’s upgraded?’

’No wonder families like that can build a hundred-year legacy and remain firmly seated at the top of the pyramid.’

Besides, don’t they always say that when God closes a door, he opens a window?

So, by that same logic, when God drops your emotional intelligence into the negatives, shouldn’t your IQ be maxed out, or at least have its progress bar over fifty percent?

But how did this guy end up with negative stats in both? Did God think that a negative times a negative would make a positive here?

How did a guy like this even get into Kingsland University? Surely he didn’t steal someone else’s spot, right?

Ethan Bishop’s face had turned a deep shade of purple.

"Charles Lowell’s daughter is just as sharp-tongued, I see! Don’t get too smug. You’re just like your father, living under the protection of the older generation. Fortunes turn like a wheel; who knows what the future holds?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, the atmosphere in the auditorium turned palpably strange.

And Lynn White had already let go of his arm, subtly taking a small step away from him.
