Chapter 428: 427: Acquittal

Chapter 428: Chapter 427: Acquittal

Jiang Nanshu clutched his hand and in the end, merely said, “Return safely.”

Lu Qingyan looked at her with a gentle smile that dispersed the shadows from his brow, his voice earnest, “Okay.”

He would definitely come back.

He couldn’t leave Jiang Nanshu alone.

He also had a child now, no matter what, he would return to Jiang Nanshu’s side.

Lu Qingyan stepped out the door, his gaze sweeping past Ye Yuan.

Ye Yuan immediately understood.

After Lu Qingyan left with the police, he had called Old Sir Lu to explain the situation here.

Ye Yuan sighed, Old Sir Lu had to run around for his grandson again.

Jiang Nanshu was taken to the Jiang Family.

Jiang Yisen received the news and rushed back, anxiously asking, “What’s going on with Lu Qingyan?”

Jiang Nanshu sat in the courtyard basking in the sun and replied calmly, “The police say he hired a murderer to kill Chu Muxi, they took him for questioning, it’s unclear when he will be released.”

Jiang Yisen frowned, “Is there anything else?”

“Chu Xin has been accusing Lu Qingyan of illegally detaining her daughter after she died. If that’s proven, even if he didn’t hire a murderer, he will not escape legal punishment,” Jiang Nanshu spoke indifferently.

Jiang Yisen didn’t know about these matters.

So he asked, “He probably wasn’t involved, was he?”

Jiang Nanshu smiled at Jiang Yisen, “Who knows.”

Jiang Yisen felt a headache coming on, “I will check on his situation; you just stay home and take it easy these days, especially since you are pregnant, don’t overthink things.”

Jiang Nanshu nodded obediently, not saying a word.

She certainly hoped that Lu Qingyan would come out safe and sound, but if his criminal responsibility was to be investigated…

Jiang Nanshu thought for a bit and felt that things were starting to get complicated.

She sighed.

Old Sir Lu had already sent people to deal with the matter.

Jiang Nanshu stayed at the Jiang Family for three days.

On the third day, she received a call from Xu Xi.

Her tone was cheerful, “Jiangjiang, I’m with Yang Jiashu now!”

Jiang Nanshu adjusted her emotions, “He isn’t going for an arranged marriage with his family anymore?”

Xu Xi’s voice turned much softer, “Jiashu said he wouldn’t go; he’d find other ways to help his family through the tough times. He moved out of the Yang Family, and yesterday he moved in with me.”

“When did you guys get together?”

Xu Xi seemed a bit shy, “It was… the day after he came to look for me at my hometown, he confessed and I accepted…”

Her voice trailed off quieter, “Am I… a little out of my league with his family?”

“No,” Jiang Nanshu’s voice was crisp, “you deserve to be liked, Xixi, you’re a good girl.”

Encouraged by Jiang Nanshu, Xu Xi’s mood brightened instantly, “I brought a gift for your baby from my hometown, when it’s born, it will have a whole room of treasures from its godmother!”

“Hm? How come I didn’t know my child had already acknowledged you as its godmother?”

Xu Xi cooed, “No matter, no matter, I am the child’s godmother, and no one can take that from me.”

Jiang Nanshu shook her head, her tone teasing, “Then you’ll have to show some sincerity, I can’t do anything if the baby isn’t satisfied.”

Xu Xi burst into laughter, “I think it’s you who wants it, you’re even using the child now.”

Jiang Nanshu spoke innocently, “Not at all, what’s theirs is mine, the child and I are one and the same.”

“Fine then, I’ll buy it and let you take a look, just remember to give me a godmother voucher,” Xu Xi said with a smile, then changed the topic, “Jiangjiang, do you want to go out and have fun tomorrow?”

Jiang Nanshu wasn’t keen on going out and declined, “I don’t feel like it, I don’t know why, but I’ve been feeling unwell lately.”

Xu Xi was very understanding of Jiang Nanshu’s condition as an expectant mother, “Alright then, we’ll make plans another time. Jiangjiang, stay happy, and in a few days Sister Yan and I will come visit you.”

Jiang Nanshu softly replied, “Okay.”

Time passed day by day, and before long another week had flown by.

Jiang Nanshu’s daily routine consisted of sleeping and eating. When she had time, she would go to shoot advertisements at Fang Minghe’s, occasionally bumping into her old friend Duan Huaiyu. They barely exchanged nods. Duan Huaiyu seemed busy too, greeting her in passing before hurrying away.

Jiang Nanshu’s gaze lingered on his retreating figure for a second before she too departed.

Lately, Jiang Nanshu’s morning sickness had become quite severe; she was unable to keep anything down, leaving Mr. Jiang fraught with worry.

Despite hiring many talented chefs to cook delicious meals at home, Jiang Nanshu only grew thinner.

After emerging from the washroom, Jiang Nanshu wiped her mouth and rubbed her belly, sighing deeply.

She never knew pregnancy could be so tough. The thought of nearly seven more months made her scalp tingle.

Meanwhile, Lu Qingyan had vanished for a week, and she couldn’t find any information on him. It was as if he had intentionally gone off the grid.

Jiang Nanshu didn’t overthink it; no news was good news to her. She had been extremely sleepy lately, capable of dozing off for extended periods.

Like usual, Jiang Nanshu finished lunch, threw up again, and went upstairs for a nap.

She wasn’t sure how long she had slept when something tickled her face. She reached out to swat it and felt a warm touch.

Opening her eyes, she saw Lu Qingyan holding her hand, smiling at her, “Have you missed me so much in just over a week that you want to hit me?”

Jiang Nanshu rubbed her eyes in disbelief, only to confirm the person in front of her was real, “Lu Qingyan?”

“Yes, I’m here.”

“You’re back?” Jiang Nanshu blinked.

Lu Qingyan bent down and kissed the palm of her hand, “Yes, I’m back. I missed you too much. I’ll never leave you again.”

Jiang Nanshu sat up and hugged Lu Qingyan, her voice muffled against his shoulder, “What did the police say? Everything’s okay, right?”

Lu Qingyan patted Jiang Nanshu’s back gently, his voice soft and gentle, “I’ve been released. I’m not a murderer. They don’t have the right to keep me locked up anymore.”

“What about… the detention?” Jiang Nanshu asked him.

Lu Qingyan’s lips curved in a smile, “Being released means I’ve committed no crime, silly treasure.”

Jiang Nanshu pushed him away, glaring at him, “You’re the silly one.”

Lu Qingyan hurried to appease her, “Alright, alright, I’m the silly one, the silliest. When our child is born, they should inherit your intelligence, not be silly like me.”

Perhaps it was the hormonal changes, but Jiang Nanshu felt her faux composure crumble in the moment she saw Lu Qingyan.

She had missed him.

She missed Lu Qingyan every night.

He would make her delicious, healthy food, dry her hair for her, check the water temperature for her bath, and wipe her feet with a dry towel. No matter how busy, he always made time to hold her and coax her to sleep at night.

She went from having no feelings to missing Lu Qingyan’s tenderness.

It was a habit, a dependency.

Jiang Nanshu hugged Lu Qingyan again, her voice still muffled, “Lu Qingyan, you’ve spoiled me rotten. I never used to be like this.”

Lu Qingyan cradled Jiang Nanshu in his lap, then sat down on the bed, looking at her with a smile, “Is that so bad? Nannan, you are the happiest person in the world. You have so many people around who love you, and I love you too, and will never leave you.”
