Chapter 426 - 425: Sorry
Chapter 426: Chapter 425: Sorry
“I don’t have such intention; I just want to raise my grandson. What’s wrong with that?”
“My child is not an orphan with no parents. When did it become your turn to raise him? If you really want to raise a child, why don’t you just find my dad and have another one with him?” Lu Qingyan said with sarcasm.
He didn’t want to leave any face for Lu Mother.
He was truly disappointed in her.
If she had even a little love for him, she wouldn’t treat him this way.
Having escaped from her clutches, how could he possibly send his own child into a demon cave?
Lu Mother’s face flushed with anger: “What nonsense are you talking about? With the kind of disease your dad has, how could I dare get close to him? In this life, you’re my only child.”
Lu Qingyan sneered, “So, you know he has that disease. Does the fact that you stayed with him mean you were spared from the trouble? If you still want to see your grandson, keep your distance from Nannan and me for a while. I don’t want to be harmed by you to the point of having no descendants.”
His words were indeed quite harsh.
Lu Mother’s face turned pale.
Her hands clenched in front of her, lost in thought, she unusually didn’t retort and walked silently past Lu Qingyan. When she reached the door, she turned back to glance at her son’s tall figure.
Tears began to well up in her eyes. It had already been twenty-seven years.
Her son had grown up so much.
“Visit me less in the future. Stop meddling in my life; it’s annoying,” Lu Qingyan said without looking back at Lu Mother.
Lu Mother pursed her lips but still turned back to glance at her son.
In her eyes, there was only a sense of untouchable estrangement.
It was no longer like when he was little, when even if he was forced to study by her, he would cry and ask to be held by her.
A tightness settled in her chest: “Ah Yan.”
Lu Qingyan paused in his steps, turning his head to look at her.
Lu Mother’s lips parted and came together again, finally managing a strained smile: “Nevermind…Mom wouldn’t harm you. I’ll come again when your wife has the baby.”
Perhaps she was also truly afraid of transmitting the uncertain virus she carried to Jiang Nanshu.
She wanted Lu Qingyan to listen to her, but she had never intended to harm her own child.
Lu Qingyan exhaled softly, his tone still mocking, “Mother, you’re already at such an age. What can your brothers bring you that makes you so intent on doing good for them? They don’t even have to do anything to gain benefits, all because you fight for their interests. They just need to hide behind you and enjoy. You treat your natal family better than you treat me. Now you even want to raise my unborn child. Are you being instigated by the Shang family again? To make your presence felt in front of me, and then throw a few projects their way so they can keep gasping for air?”
Lu Mother was at a loss for words, because what Lu Qingyan said was all true.
She had indeed acquiesced to the Shang family’s request, even though she was unwilling.
“You want to engage in charity, that’s your business. I don’t want any further entanglement with the Shang family. I won’t cooperate with them in the future; they are just a drag with no real use. If you choose to mess with them, that’s up to you, but don’t come back to me if you suffer losses,” Lu Qingyan said and then went straight upstairs.
He had no expectation that his words would make Lu Mother see the light. How could a person who had been muddled for over two decades suddenly become enlightened from his few words?
Lu Mother stood there, dazed for a long time.
She looked down at her hands, tended but still aged.
She had lived most of her life, yet had grasped nothing.
Husband, son, the expectations of her parental family…
Nothing at all.
She left Half Mountain Villa in a daze.
Lu Qingyan coaxed Jiang Nanshu upstairs, “I’ve already spoken to her, told her to visit me less often, so she won’t bother you anymore. Don’t be angry.”
Jiang Nanshu wasn’t really angry, as she was aware of Lu Mother’s nature.
Like Mrs. Jiang, unable to distinguish right from wrong.
But Jiang Nanshu was luckier than Mrs. Jiang, not struck by a terminal illness, her family didn’t neglect her as much even when they PUAed her.
She hadn’t done anything too outrageous, other than trying to gain benefits for the Shang Family.
Except for today, she had just gotten pregnant and hadn’t even given birth yet when they demanded custody rights; Jiang Nanshu couldn’t help but give in.
She leaned back on the recliner, lifted her hand to pinch her brows, “Really bizarre. In another month, my renovated house will be ready to move into. I’ll move then, it’ll be perfect. My mom can keep me company and save me from boredom.”
Lu Qingyan looked at her with a smile, reached out, and stroked her soft black hair, gently responding, “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
Jiang Nanshu used to be a loner, but now she seemed to enjoy being around people.
Jiang Nanshu gave him a look, “Why do you like patting my head as much as my brother? I just washed my hair; don’t make it greasy.”
Lu Qingyan pulled a chair and sat beside Jiang Nanshu, “I won’t. If it gets greasy, I’ll wash it for you.”
Jiang Nanshu hummed, enjoying the tranquility of the moment, and slowly closed her eyes to sleep.
Lu Qingyan rested his head on her stomach, “Can we hear the baby now?”
Jiang Nanshu half-opened her eyes to look at him, “It’s the size of a mung bean, no heartbeat yet. Give it some time.”
He carefully moved away and then rested his head on Jiang Nanshu’s shoulder, gently hugging her.
After a while, he sighed, “I’m sorry.”
Jiang Nanshu looked at him with a smile that was not quite a smile, “Tell me what you did wrong.”
Lu Qingyan pursed his lips, his ears turning red with shyness, his face warm as well; he could barely look at Jiang Nanshu, “I was wrong because I was too selfish. I thought having a child would make you stay with me, so… sorry Nannan, I didn’t consider your feelings.”
Jiang Nanshu quietly watched him, and after a long while, she smiled, “Lu Qingyan, if I wanted to leave, no one could stop me, not even a child. I will stay for a person. I meant what I said at the beginning; I’m willing to be with you, I won’t leave, and please trust me. Also, I liked the old Lu Qingyan, he was sunny, warm, approachable, very gentle and always smiling. He had many friends, everyone liked him.”
Jiang Nanshu said this, staring into Lu Qingyan’s eyes, and smiled, “That includes me.”
His eyes reddened instantly, his tearful gaze shimmered. He bowed his head into Jiang Nanshu’s shoulder, and she patted his back, teasing, “Lu Qingyan, why do you cry so much? If grandpa knew, he might think I bullied you. Count how many times you’ve cried since you’ve been with me.”
Warm tears spread on Jiang Nanshu’s skin, soon cooling.
Lu Qingyan’s voice was stiff, “I’m not crying. I just got sand in my eye, I’ll just duck away and rub it out.”
Jiang Nanshu couldn’t help but laugh, “Then hurry up, I’m afraid my clothes will be soaked with your tears soon. And remember, there’s no second chance. If you do this kind of thing again, I won’t forgive you. You should tell me everything immediately, and don’t hide anything from me, understood?”
