Chapter 277: Chapter 133: New Task: Home Cooking, Stir-Fried Yellow Beef
After returning to the lounge, Su Chen explained his idea.
He had thought it would be a complicated matter, but after Cui Yufen heard him out, he agreed wholeheartedly.
"That’s no problem at all. Fifth Brother, after your new cafeteria opens, just give me a call anytime if you’re short-staffed. I can’t promise a huge number, but I can definitely round up seven or eight of our martial brothers to help out."
Su Chen hadn’t expected Cui Yufen to agree so readily. For a moment, he was dumbfounded.
Seeing his expression, Cui Yufen laughed. "Since we’re all brothers, isn’t this just a small favor? Besides, being able to cook three meals a day for athletes is an honor for a chef."
Su Chen used to find it a bit hard to understand.
Why people like Lu Yongliang, Cui Yufen, and even Jiang Wusheng were always talking about honor.
But now, Su Chen was beginning to understand.
Honor, to a certain extent, was a symbol of one’s professional value.
Take Zhang Heping, for example. If he could work for a period during the sports games, he would have an extra title to put on his resume: "Official Designated Chef for the XX Sports Games."
It might not seem like much in casual conversation, but at a critical moment, a title like that could be incredibly useful!
That was why Cui Yufen had agreed so quickly.
First, it was truly a small favor, an easy way to build goodwill. Second, for some of his more financially strapped apprentices, it was a great opportunity to boost their professional value.
Some people would sneer at such an opportunity. Wang Peixing, for example, would certainly not be interested—he was already the general manager of Cuihua Building.
But others desperately needed these symbols of honor. Take Old Ba, for instance. Even though he worked at a time-honored restaurant, he was still just a pastry chef. With a distinction like this, he would have an edge to put on his resume when a promotion opportunity arose.
With Cui Yufen’s wholehearted agreement, Su Chen breathed a sigh of relief.
The group had already stayed in Jingzhou a day longer than planned. That morning, Cui Yufen insisted that he had to leave.
The entire staff of Delicious took a group photo with the martial brothers on the company’s second floor. They saw them all the way downstairs to their car and didn’t head back inside until it was out of sight.
"Man, these past few days have been busy as hell!" Bai Xiaobo said, massaging his shoulders.
Ling Shuyu shot him a sidelong glance. "What were you busy with?"
Xiaobai opened his mouth to retort, but his brain couldn’t quite keep up.
’Yeah, what was I busy with?’
’But it really has been so busy every day!’
’But why is Ling Shuyu so nice to everyone else and always picking on me? Did I do something to tick her off?’
Back at the office, Bai Xiaobo even went after Zhang Li to ask about it.
"When did I get on President Ling’s bad side? She’s always picking on me!"
Zhang Li, who had been tipsy that day, had no idea what he was talking about. She immediately offered to go ask President Ling for him.
This scared Bai Xiaobo so much that he quickly insisted he was only joking.
Back in the office, Su Chen glanced at his phone. "Fang Chang replied. Shuyu, go follow up with him."
Ling Shuyu immediately replied, "But Director Li said this is something you have to handle personally."
Su Chen shook his head. "You follow up with Fang Chang first. We can talk later if I’m needed."
With this sports games project, the officials were currently in a chokehold by the organizing committee. Either a dormitory and cafeteria were built near the stadium, or the whole deal would be called off.
To appease the organizing committee, the officials would surely have to agree to their terms.
But since no one wanted to invest in such a thankless endeavor, the officials were probably the ones feeling the pressure now.
Ling Shuyu agreed.
Everyone returned to their posts. Zhang Li took the group photos from the past few days to get them developed and framed.
On the nineteenth floor, Su Chen stretched and gazed out the window.
’It’s all Cui Yufen’s and Fang Chang’s fault. They’ve raised my standards for custom orders way too high.’
’And Ling Shuyu!’
Su Chen silently cursed them.
Constant custom orders worth tens of thousands of yuan had spoiled him. Now, Su Chen had no desire to personally cook orders that were only a few hundred yuan.
He passed anything he could down to the second-floor kitchen.
’I need to get my head on straight. Orders worth tens of thousands are a rare windfall, not the norm.’
’The meal-plan service provides a stable income for the company, but gourmet food is still our foundation. I have to keep that part of the business strong!’
’Okay... From now on, I’ll take any order over two thousand yuan!’
Since he had nothing better to do, Su Chen lay back on his recliner and entered his practice space. He summoned a bag of flour, ready to work on his dough-making skills.
Old Ba’s Noodle Skills had left a deep impression on Su Chen. Living in a kingdom of carbs, it felt inexcusable not to have some mastery over dough yourself.
It wasn’t until after the children had finished their lunch that Ling Shuyu finally heard back from Fang Chang.
"President Ling!!! Are you serious?"
Fang Chang’s excited tone puzzled Ling Shuyu. "It’s true. Boss Su is interested."
"That’s fantastic!" Fang Chang’s words tumbled out in a rush. "I’ve been swamped with this very thing, so busy I haven’t even had time to eat! I can’t believe Boss Su is interested. I’ll head over right now!"
Ling Shuyu stared at her phone in astonishment after the call ended.
’What in the world is going on? This is completely different from what Li Mingtao said.’
Fang Chang was incredibly fast. He arrived at the company in less than half an hour.
He came in and made a beeline for Ling Shuyu’s office.
"President Ling, do you have the authority to make the final call on this?"
"I do." Ling Shuyu knew Su Chen had already given her the authority.
