Chapter 210: Chapter 210: Shura Field (Part 2)

"Huh? I don’t have time to explain right now."

"The stuff I ordered on my phone will be delivered by a courier any second. Just say you bought it."

"You go on in!"

Before Jiang Fan could finish, Li Muwan kicked him inside.

That’s right, a swift kick to the butt sent him stumbling into the room.

She didn’t give him any chance to speak or back out.

A man sat on the sofa, dressed in a dark red Tang suit. He had an imposing air about him, naturally authoritative without being angry.

You could tell at a glance that he was a man of high status.

The woman sitting next to him had faint traces of age around her eyes, but her skin was so well-maintained she looked to be only in her thirties.

He realized in an instant: these were Li Muwan’s parents.

After all, the family resemblance was undeniable.

"Um... COUGH, COUGH, COUGH."

Jiang Fan cleared his throat and forced a smile.

In a situation like this, he had no choice but to make it work. He’d have to brace himself and see it through.

"Young man, are you in the wrong place?"

The woman on the sofa was taken aback for a moment, then asked gently.

"Um, sir, ma’am... I’m in the right place. I’m Wan’s boyfriend."

"I just got back."

Jiang Fan said, forcing himself to sound confident.

"What?"

The woman exclaimed in surprise. The man beside her fixed his gaze on Jiang Fan, looking him up and down.

"DING-DONG."

The doorbell rang. Just as the woman stood up, Jiang Fan dashed over.

"Ma’am, let me get it. That should be the things I bought."

"I was in such a hurry to get here, I had them delivered directly. My apologies."

Jiang Fan apologized as he pulled open the door.

Sure enough, four delivery guys were outside with a huge pile of things.

There was high-end tea, expensive gift boxes, and even ties and belts.

Everything was brand-name.

After carrying the items inside, he obediently placed them to the side.

’This might be the most well-behaved I’ve ever been in my life,’ he thought.

"Well..."

The couple exchanged a look. They had been given no time to prepare for this, leaving them at a loss for words.

But they didn’t forget their basic etiquette.

"And what’s your name, young man?"

"Ma’am, my name is Jiang Fan."

"Oh, Fan, please, sit down."

"Honestly, that Wan... she never told us a thing."

She guided Jiang Fan to a nearby sofa and poured him a cup of tea.

"This is Wan’s father, Li Jiaxiang. I’m her mother, Zhou Jing. You can just call me Auntie."

Jiang Fan sat stiffly. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Sir, Auntie, I’m so sorry. Please don’t blame Wan. My return was very sudden, and I didn’t even have time to tell her I was coming."

"She only told me after I arrived, so it was all quite rushed. That’s why I didn’t have time to prepare proper gifts for you both."

Jiang Fan’s mind raced as he carefully chose his words.

"Don’t worry about it. Those are just material things."

"Fan, what do you do for a living?"

"Are your parents in good health?"

Finally, the critical questions had arrived.

Jiang Fan racked his brain, unsure how to answer.

He really wanted to string Li Muwan up and give her a good thrashing right now. ’Where the hell did you run off to? Why aren’t you back here to support me?’

"I’m a manager in the planning department of a publicly listed company."

"As for my parents... they both passed away a long time ago. I’m the only one left in my family now."

Jiang Fan’s emotional shift was subtle.

From the slight pride in his voice when he said "manager," to the somber tone when he mentioned his parents’ passing.

It moved Zhou Jing.

Li Jiaxiang was also slightly taken aback; he truly hadn’t expected that.

"Honestly, why are you asking these sorts of questions?"

"Fan, don’t mind your auntie."

"Don’t be nervous. Here, have some tea."

As expected of a man in a high position, he changed the subject smoothly, without a hint of awkwardness.

He picked up the teapot and added some more tea to Jiang Fan’s cup, but didn’t fill it to the brim.

Li Jiaxiang’s sense of propriety was perfect.

"Go give Wan a call. Ask her why she isn’t back yet. How long does it take to throw out the trash?"

Li Jiaxiang said to Zhou Jing.

"Okay."

She picked up her phone, walked to the side, and started dialing Li Muwan.

Li Jiaxiang took the opportunity to question Jiang Fan: "So, Fan, how did you and our Wan meet?"

"How come the girl never mentioned you to us?"

Jiang Fan felt the pressure mount. When Li Muwan’s mother, Zhou Jing, was asking questions, he had felt a gentle peacefulness.

But now, with Li Jiaxiang, an invisible pressure descended. His eyes, in particular, would sweep over you from time to time, making it feel impossible to lie, making you want to blurt out your innermost thoughts unconsciously.

Fortunately, however, Jiang Fan was no ordinary person; he had been through a lot.

So, while he was panicking on the inside, on the surface, he was as cool as a cucumber.

"Wan and I met at a dinner party. The first time I saw her, I thought she was the one for me. She was simply heavenly."

"At first, Wan didn’t even give me the time of day."

Jiang Fan added with a perfectly timed, self-deprecating chuckle.

"But I persistently pursued her, and soon enough, we fell deeply in love."

"It’s just that I’m very busy with work and have to travel often for business, so we don’t get to see each other as much as we’d like."

"We had even talked about visiting you both this year."

"I never expected we’d meet this way. It’s truly my failure as a junior."

"Don’t say that. That girl... she never told us anything. We’ve been so worried about her love life these past two years, our hair’s turned white from the stress."

"To think she went and found a boyfriend without a peep."

At this, Zhou Jing was beaming, unable to close her mouth from smiling so wide.

Jiang Fan was dressed in tasteful casual wear, which, combined with his naturally resolute-looking face...

...gave the first impression of a strong and responsible man.

He happened to be the exact image of the son-in-law Zhou Jing had in mind.

That was why her attitude toward Jiang Fan was exceptionally warm.

Li Jiaxiang, however, was a different story. They say a daughter is a father’s ’little padded jacket,’ and he felt like his jacket was about to be stolen away by this punk.

So, even though he found Jiang Fan pleasant enough to look at, he still wanted to find some fault with him.

Just then, Jiang Fan’s phone suddenly rang.

"Excuse me, Sir, Auntie. I have to take this call. It’s about work."

Jiang Fan glanced at the caller ID and quickly apologized.

"No problem, work comes first."

Zhou Jing nodded in understanding. Jiang Fan went out to the balcony and slid the partition door shut.

"Jiaxiang, what do you think of this young man?"
