Chapter 206: Chapter 206: Confrontation

"The more capable you are, the more you should do. If you don’t go, who will?"

Li Muwan didn’t even look up.

Jiang Fan was about to blow a gasket. "What kind of fucking ridiculous logic is that?"

"What do you mean, ’the capable should do more,’ so I have to go? Don’t I have my own work? Don’t I have to prepare the plan for the upcoming event?"

"I’m not going. Get whoever you want to do it."

With that, Jiang Fan turned to leave.

"Jiang Fan, what do you think you’re doing?"

"You’ve barely done any work and you’re already getting impatient and throwing a tantrum?"

Hearing Jiang Fan speak to her like that, Li Muwan’s own anger began to flare.

"What about me? I’ll say it again: get someone else. I’m not going!"

"You think you can just work me like a dog?"

"If I weren’t on good terms with Junyue, who knows how long it would’ve taken me just to get those blueprints?"

"And later, if the event plan isn’t good enough, if it doesn’t get the results you expect, you’re still going to come after me, aren’t you?"

"Are you menopausal or something?"

Jiang Fan snorted coldly, muttered a couple of curses, and stormed back to his office.

He was greeted by the admiring gazes of his subordinates.

"What are you all looking at me for? Don’t you have work to do?"

Jiang Fan slammed his hand on a desk and yelled.

"Boss, Jiang, you’re a fucking legend!"

"In this whole company, I’ve never even seen the chairman talk to Manager Li like that!"

"And you actually dared to point right at her and chew her out."

"Besides, it’s not like it was a big deal. It’s just coordinating with the supplier. They work for us anyway, for the upcoming event."

"Be careful. She’ll make your life difficult."

A few of the planning department employees offered faint, worried smiles.

But Jiang Fan just looked disdainful.

"If you back down once, you’ll just have to do it a second time, and a third!"

"Let me tell you all again: the work that is ours, we must do, and do well, so they can’t find any fault with us."

"As for work that isn’t ours, whoever decides to do it can do all of it from now on. And don’t come crying to me about overtime."

"Now get the hell back to work."

"When you’re done, clock out and go home!"

Jiang Fan waved his hand impatiently.

’Li Muwan has really been acting crazy these past two days. I don’t know if she’s on her period or something.’

’First she was finding fault with everything I did, and today she’s working me like a dog.’

’What’s with that? Does she think I don’t have a temper?’

He sat down and tried to read some other project proposals and related books, but after half an hour, he realized he couldn’t take in a single word. He was just bottling up his frustration.

"So frustrating!"

Scratching his head, Jiang Fan stood up, grabbed his phone, and clocked out for the day.

"Planning Department Manager has failed to comply with company management. This month’s bonus is forfeit!"

A penalty notice was announced in the company-wide group chat.

Seeing this, Jiang Fan was livid.

A month’s bonus... that was over ten thousand yuan!

No longer able to suppress his rage, he spun around, marched to Li Muwan’s office, and pushed the door open.

He was going to demand to know what he had done wrong to be targeted like this.

’If this doesn’t work out, screw it, I’ll just quit.’

’Even a saint has his limits.’

But when he pushed the door open, he found that Li Muwan, the so-called workaholic, wasn’t there at all. The office lights were off.

He pulled out his phone and called her three times, but no one answered.

"Are you looking for Manager Li?"

Sun Yanzi appeared eerily from behind him.

"Honestly, the way you always pop up out of nowhere really makes me wonder if you have some kind of superpower."

Jiang Fan said, clutching his heart in fright.

"Where’d she go? Not working overtime today?"

"I don’t know. It looked like she got a call, then left the company in a hurry. She also took tomorrow off."

"In a hurry? Took the day off?"

Jiang Fan’s brows furrowed deeply.

"Alright, just calm down. Wait until she’s back from her day off, then you can talk it over with her properly."

"It might be that time of the month, you know, a girl thing."

"Just try to be a little more patient with her."

Sun Yanzi gently took his hand and started rubbing his back with her other hand.

"I can be patient with her, but who’s going to be patient with my paycheck? That’s over ten thousand!"

But since Sun Yanzi was the one talking, he couldn’t keep up his harsh attitude.

"Let’s go, then. We can clock out, and I’ll make you dinner at home."

"You’re not busy today?"

Jiang Fan asked, a little surprised to hear Sun Yanzi say that.

"That’s right."

With her standing in front of him, Jiang Fan felt much of his burning anger dissipate.

They went down to the underground parking garage, and for once, Su Qingci was nowhere to be seen.

He started the car, and with Sun Yanzi beside him, the two of them drove home.

She washed her hands and went to the kitchen to start dinner, while Jiang Fan swept and mopped the whole house.

Just as he finished cleaning, Sun Yanzi had dinner ready.

Three dishes and a soup—a warm and simple meal.

"Why were you working so much overtime the past few days? Didn’t I tell you? Don’t push yourself so hard. You need to rest more."

Jiang Fan asked as he ate.

"It was because of that internal company business. I didn’t have a choice."

"I couldn’t just stand by and watch those black sheep hold onto positions they don’t deserve, doing nothing."

"But things should be better now. I’m not as busy, and I don’t need to work overtime anymore."

"Weren’t you the one who wasn’t staying home a few days ago?"

Jiang Fan was about to explain when he saw Sun Yanzi give him a gentle smile and shake her head.

"You don’t have to explain to me. I was just making a point."

"Just take care of yourself when you’re out, and be safe."

"No matter when you come back, I’ll always leave a light on for you."

Honestly, that single sentence struck a deep chord within Jiang Fan. He suddenly had the urge to get married.

It was that kind of feeling.

’Sun Yanzi would be a wonderful wife.’

At that moment, Jiang Fan felt like he had a lump in his throat; he wanted to say something, but the words wouldn’t come out.

All he could do was nod and bury his head in his food, not letting Sun Yanzi see the slight redness in his eyes.

Because the only other person who had ever said those words to him was the matron from the orphanage.

’No matter when you come back, this will always be your home. If you run into trouble out there, face setbacks, if you’re unhappy or things aren’t going your way, you can always come back.’

"What’s wrong? Are you still in a bad mood?"

Seeing Jiang Fan with his head down, shoveling food into his mouth, Sun Yanzi gently nudged him with her chopsticks.
