THE GOD EATER

Chapter 1316: Invisible Interference.

But before he could go far, something gripped him tightly, stopping his motion through time. It grabbed him with so much force, his eyes nearly popped out of his skull.

One moment he was escaping freely. The next, he was in danger of being crushed to death.

Fortunately, whatever stopped him let him go. In fact, the whole interference didn’t last a second. It only felt longer because of how powerful the force was.

He soon resumed his trip, but fear gripped his heart tightly because of what he had just experienced. Apparently, even without being held directly, the influence of that invisible force never left him. The fear seemed to increase because something was watching him.

He felt the Divine Spirit of an unknown being scanning him back and forth even as he traveled into the past. He had only ever experienced it once before, thousands of years ago, around the time he ascended to the upper realm.

It had happened once, which made him think it might have been a fluke. But now, he was experiencing it again, and two times in a row, too. So it felt as if a monster he had put off for a long time had finally come to finish what it started.

His thoughts ran wild as he imagined what could happen and tried to figure out how to escape in the worst case. He thought and thought, but nothing happened.

The unknown entity seemed to be satisfied with watching him. They didn’t speak to him, and they didn’t stop him. They just watched, making him nervous like a rat that had just sniffed out a cat in the area.

When he was satisfied with how far he had gone into the past, he deactivated the Time Loop Supreme Metac and let it fuse with the present version of himself.

As the future version reconciled itself with the present version, he thought, ’Something has to be done about my dwindling lifespan and rising Entropy. At this rate, I’ll only be able to jump two times more.’

Meanwhile, the two brothers were chatting beside him. Wandering Thief was saying, "Ragnarok attacked three people from my sect earlier. I wonder why?"

Nameless Fool shrugged and said, "Who knows why that freak does anything? As long as he doesn’t go on a killing spree, massacring mortals, everything is fine."

"But what if he was angry with us and took it out on the mortals? Or what if the mortals did something that made him angry with us? Either way, his anger might make him reject our offer to work for him," Wandering Thief said, worried.

Having received all of the memories of the future and being able to talk again, War Mongerer said, "It is Ragnarok. He is definitely angry with you. Or maybe he is angry with all of us. Who knows?"

"Either way, he is the one who will attack you. I believe it is a curse or some kind of infection attack. He might have used the three mortals he killed earlier to attack you, or he just killed them to vent his anger."

"I don’t know exactly how he did it, but I know that he is definitely behind that attack, and he is definitely angry with you. Either way, he can attack you again at any moment."

Then he began explaining exactly what had happened before he reversed time and returned to the past. He also told them about what happened on his way through time.

Nameless Fool, after hearing about the activation of his Supreme Metac and how the attack had caused it to jump across space and appear on him, broke out into a sweat.

He tried to remain calm as he said, "What can we do?"

"Clearly the attack can’t be blocked. And we don’t know what conditions are needed to initiate it. Our best bet is to go directly to the source and sue for peace," War Mongerer said, his voice full of frustration about the whole thing.

"I guess that’s all we can do," War Mongerer said. "Either way, we have to do whatever we have to do as soon as possible and hope it works because I can’t do this for much longer."

On the other side, Loki had just received the three Core Metacs. During his first attack against Wandering Thief, he had kidnapped a whole mortal and brought them to the upper realm.

The mortal died as soon as they arrived, but he didn’t mind. Their corpse was still useful to him, and he used it as the link to curse Wandering Thief.

The attack worked, but not the way he wanted. The curse took effect, but it only attacked those related by blood to the mortal.

As soon as it took effect, the man’s direct relatives, including children and parents, were killed. The attack didn’t stop at killing the mortal’s nuclear family, though.

It continued to spread, killing everyone in the extended family. It killed brothers, sisters, uncles, and aunties. Then it went on to kill those who were remotely related to the mortal, including his nephew and nieces.

Loki didn’t see the full extent of the potential power of the Seal of Death because he immediately cut off the attack after the nieces and nephews began to die. He didn’t want to draw too much attention for killing mortals, so he stopped.

The attack didn’t reach Wandering Thief, which was why he tried again with only a Core Metac. It is also why he killed the three mortals and brought their Core Metacs into the upper realm to use them for the attack instead of using their complete corpses.

’To be fair, even though the attack didn’t reach the person I intended, it still worked in a way. It also taught me a lot of lessons about how the Seal of Death works,’ he said as he played with the three Core Metacs.

’First, I learned that interference can be strong if not eliminated early on. It can be so strong that it can redirect the attack from the person I want to kill.’
