The Fragrance of My Hot Patients
Chapter 424
With his fans and the public as his backing, Lin Jiji suddenly felt full of confidence. His gaze toward Chenyang also revealed a hint of smugness.
But that smug look was fleeting. When he turned to look at Lin Xiaoyue, his face was already filled with an aggrieved expression. “Xiaoyue, what does your uncle mean by this? We’re clearly the victims here, so why is he siding with an outsider and helping Chenyang?”
Lin Xiaoyue’s brows knitted together. “It’s probably because Chenyang treated my uncle’s illness.”
A flicker of light crossed Lin Jiji’s eyes. “I can understand him helping out of gratitude. After all, it just proves your uncle is a man of principle who knows how to repay a kindness. If Chenyang hadn’t done anything too serious, we could do your uncle a favor and let it slide. But Chenyang is a criminal now. If your uncle helps him, he’s not just going against us, he’s aiding an evildoer and bringing a lot of trouble on himself.”
“I’ll go talk to him.”
Lin Xiaoyue understood the stakes. Not wanting Lin Yongkun to be implicated because of Chenyang, she immediately strode forward.
With another flicker in his eyes, Lin Jiji followed closely behind. When he reached them, he politely called out, “Uncle Lin.”
But Lin Yongkun gave no reaction; his expression remained cold.
This reaction immediately displeased Lin Xiaoyue. “Uncle, Jiji is talking to you.”
“I’m not deaf!” Lin Yongkun snorted coldly before adding, “If you have something to say, find me later. We have something important to do right now.”
“What I have to say is important, too!”
“What could you possibly have that’s so important?”
Lin Xiaoyue said indignantly, “You’re aiding an evildoer by helping Chenyang! It’s bad for you, and it’s bad for me and Lin Jiji.”
Lin Yongkun narrowed his eyes. “Did Lin Jiji put you up to this?”
“Uncle Lin, I…”
Lin Jiji had just started to explain when Lin Yongkun cut him off. “I’m asking Xiaoyue. You, shut up!”
“Uncle, how can you talk to Jiji like that?”
“Oh? You’re not even married yet and you’re already taking his side?”
“I’m not taking his side, I’m taking the side of truth! You’re the one who’s not helping me, choosing to help a criminal like Chenyang instead!”
Seeing his niece so full of righteous indignation, Lin Yongkun was so angry he laughed. “So you’re allowed to side with principle over family, but I’m not?”
“You’re not siding with principle, you’re siding with a criminal! If you keep this up, it won’t do you any good.”
Not wanting to see the uncle and niece continue to argue, Zhang Hongtu spoke up to explain, “Xiaoyue, Doctor Xiaochen is not a criminal. There’s more to this situation than you think.”
Lin Xiaoyue said in disbelief, “The facts are all right in front of us. What more could there be? Are you saying Chenyang could actually be innocent?”
“He… might actually be innocent.”
“Impossible! We have both witnesses and physical evidence. There’s no way he’s innocent,” Lin Xiaoyue stated with conviction.
Zhang Hongtu shook his head. “If you’re so sure he’s not innocent, then why are you afraid to give him a chance to defend himself?”
“I’m not afraid of anything. I was only trying to stop him just now because I didn’t want my uncle to get dragged into this because of him.”
Lin Yongkun snorted. “I don’t know if I’ll be dragged into this because of him, but I do know that if you keep this up, you’ll definitely be dragged down by Lin Jiji.”
“Lin Jiji has done nothing wrong! In fact, he’s speaking up for many victims. That’s a good deed, and by helping him, I’m also doing good. How could I possibly be dragged down by him?” Lin Xiaoyue said unhappily. “Uncle, what is wrong with you today? Did Chenyang brainwash you, or have you not fully recovered from your illness? Why are you being so obstinate?”
“You’re the one being obstinate.”
“You…”
“Alright, you two, stop arguing. Let Chenyang explain, and we’ll know who’s right and who’s wrong.”
Lin Xiaoyue shot a cold glance at Chenyang. “Fine. I’d like to see what kind of story you can cook up!”
A faint smile played on Chenyang’s lips. “My story is quite exciting. I’m just afraid you won’t be able to handle it after you hear it.”
Lin Xiaoyue was dismissive. “Heh, I haven’t done anything to feel guilty about. What’s there that I can’t handle?”
“Heh, don’t be so certain. It’s not just you. That superstar by your side won’t be able to handle it either.”
As he spoke, Chenyang looked at Lin Jiji. “Superstar Lin, are you ready to face the storm?”
