Chapter 409: Chapter 409

At that moment, Lin Jiji was the very picture of a petty man who’d gotten his way.

He thought his victory was a sure thing.

He also believed that Chenyang was now nothing more than a stray dog, someone he could humiliate and mock at will!

Moreover, he was certain Chenyang would get angry and was even looking forward to him causing a scene.

If Chenyang started screaming obscenities while being insulted by the crowd, it would only make everyone despise him more.

But after several seconds, Chenyang didn’t fly into a rage out of humiliation as Lin Jiji had expected, much less start screaming with a twisted expression.

Instead, he just grinned playfully. "It’s hard to describe what it feels like to be cursed out by everyone. Instead of asking me, why don’t you just wait a bit and try it for yourself?"

Lin Jiji clenched his fists. "In your dreams! I’m a massive star adored by millions. I get more praise and flattery than I know what to do with. How could I ever be cursed out like a piece of trash like you?"

"You shouldn’t speak in such absolutes. You’ll only end up getting slapped in the face."

"Heh, the only person getting slapped in the face today is you!"

Chenyang shook his head, a smirk playing on his lips. "No, no, no. The one getting slapped in the face today is you!"

Lin Jiji sneered. "I think getting cursed out by the crowd has broken your brain. Take a good look at the situation and listen to what they’re calling you. With a little spin from me, everyone here already hates your guts. If I push just a little bit harder, believe me, the spit from this crowd could drown you."

Chenyang stared at Lin Jiji for two seconds, then suddenly raised his hand.

Seeing this, Lin Jiji instinctively flinched, a pathetic look on his face.

Chenyang placed his hand on Jiji’s collar and gently brushed off some dust. "No need to be so pathetic. I was just brushing off some dust for you, not about to hit you..."

Though Chenyang’s gesture was slight, it caused a flame of anger to instantly ignite within Lin Jiji.

To be toyed with like this in front of everyone, to be made to look like a fool—he, a major star!—sent him into a humiliated rage. He immediately shouted to the people at the side, "Hey! Hey! Are you leaders blind?! Didn’t you see that guy Chenyang about to attack me? Isn’t anyone going to do anything?"

"Chenyang, show some respect," Vice Dean Kang snapped without a second thought.

After a slight flicker in his eyes, Zhang Hongtu asked, "Mr. Lin, did Chenyang actually lay a hand on you?"

"Obviously! You think I’d falsely accuse him in front of all these people?" Lin Jiji snorted. "Plenty of people saw him grab my collar, and even more heard him curse me."

"That’s not what happened."

Just then, the beautiful anchor suddenly spoke up. "Chenyang did raise his hand, but I saw him just straightening your collar. He did speak, yes, but every word was in response to your questions. You, on the other hand, have been relentlessly mocking him ever since he showed up. You even said you wanted the crowd to drown him in their spit!"

The moment Lin Jiji had laid eyes on the beautiful anchor, he had been filled with covetous thoughts.

He had been planning to put on a show while dealing with this mess, hoping to impress her and make her see him in a new light.

But he never imagined that before the situation was even resolved, the beautiful anchor would jump to Chenyang’s defense and confront him. This stirred a complex mix of emotions within him.

There was annoyance and resentment, but most of all, he felt that Chenyang had stolen his thunder.

After shooting Chenyang a resentful glare, he retorted, "Miss, you need evidence to make claims like that in front of all these leaders. I never mocked him or cursed him. It was all him, he’s the one who’s been..."

"You want evidence? I have it."

The beautiful anchor cut him off, patting the camera beside her. "Your entire conversation with Chenyang, and all of your actions, have been recorded. Why don’t we let the leaders come over and see for themselves? We can find out who was really slandering whom."

"I..."

Seeing Lin Jiji suddenly fall silent, his face turning ashen, Chenyang couldn’t help but scoff. He then turned to the beautiful anchor and thanked her.

The beautiful anchor shook her head. "Don’t thank me. It’s the duty of us media professionals to report the truth to the public!"

Before Chenyang could respond, Lin Jiji snorted, "Don’t use such a trivial matter to shout slogans. If you really want to fulfill your duty, then hurry up and tell the public about the disgusting things Chenyang did yesterday. How about getting some justice for us, the victims?"
