The Forest Feeds No Idle Goblins
Chapter 343 - 295: Bald Hide’s Magical Beast Hunting Method
Shire had started treating Shui Yumo like an AI model.
Back at the Fortress, after he received the answer "kill the Creator God," he had considered giving up on the stuff. Just as Pazani had said, the answers Shui Yumo gave were sometimes truly absurd. What if he were to ask, "How can I secure powerful magical protection for my faction," and the answer was, "Kill Vivian to gain the support of the Magic Federation"? If that was the case, it would be better to not ask any questions at all.
Unfortunately, the small glass vial of Shui Yumo sat on the edge of his desk. Every time Shire looked up, he saw it. After a few glances, he couldn't help but pick it up again, pondering how he could put it to good use.
After much consideration, he finally came up with a solution: adding more constraints.
For example, after posing the question, "How can I make Dragon Claw Tree leaves popular across the continent?" Shire would add many restrictions: "Do not kill without cause," "Do no harm to those close to me," "Do nothing that goes against my conscience," "Do not incur major losses," and so on.
After adding these constraints, he successfully saw the answer "Contact the Third Prince through Musa" appear on the beast hide. This answer was rather conventional, but it suited Shire far better than the first one he had received: "Poison the people of Torch City. Wait until only a quarter of the citizens remain, then present the leaves as an antidote while secretly neutralizing the poison. This will convince the masses of the leaves' miraculous powers." The first answer was certainly fast and effective, and it would definitely spread the word, but it was also utterly inhuman.
The only problem was that this method consumed a great deal of Shui Yumo; the small vial wasn't nearly enough. Besides, Pazani had mentioned that the Naga Race didn't have much of it left either. To get more Shui Yumo, Shire would have to wait for Uncle Musa to return to Torch City and then contact him.
Fortunately, before he left, he had already sent Little John on his way with a Teleportation Stone Ring set. Now, he just had to wait for him to meet Uncle Musa in Torch City.
Now, Shire wanted to know how the new Rune Speech worked, so he decided to try asking Shui Yumo. He never imagined the answer would be right under the Frogman Race Leader's rear end.
From the moment Wa Er San Wu Qi Yi led him to the Clan Leader, Shire had felt that the white stone slab the leader was sitting on looked familiar. But perhaps after thousands of years of every Frogman Race Leader sitting on it, their behinds had polished the white stone slab smooth, so Shire hadn't recognized it at first.
Only after Shui Yumo gave him the answer did he, somewhat sheepishly, ask the Frogman Race Leader if he could take a look at the stone slab beneath him.
"Third Imperial Winery Storeroom Work Regulations." Shire leaned over, deciphering the words on the stone slab. The writing was somewhat faded, but because White Holy Stone was exceptionally hard, it didn't take much effort to make it out. "Two personnel must be on duty during work hours... Open flames are strictly prohibited in the storeroom..."
He examined the engraved text word by word, even trying to flip the slab over to check the back. However, the other side was completely blank, with no writing or patterns.
"Here we go, Temperature Control." After reading a few more lines, Shire finally found what he was looking for. "The temperature is set by the controller. Other than the supervisor, all other personnel are prohibited from making adjustments."
'Controller... set temperature?' he muttered to himself, his eyes scanning further down the slab for any other useful information.
Unfortunately, the rest of the text was just about storeroom shift schedules, completely unrelated to Rune Speech.
Shire straightened up, lightly tapping his lower back. 'It seems this Rune Speech isn't limited to just creating low temperatures,' he thought. 'It can set a specific temperature, and it has a controller... But I don't remember seeing anything that looked like a controller in the pool earlier.'
After a moment of thought, he walked down the steps to the Frogman Race Leader and asked, "Have you ever seen a white stone block about this big, also with patterns carved on it?"
He gestured with his hands, indicating the size of the controller for the Rune Language: Door he had seen before.
"A white stone block?" The Frogman Race Leader gently patted his stomach, the white flesh rippling with each pat. "I'm sorry, outsider. I have lived in this village for many years and have never seen the white stone block you speak of. Croak."
"You haven't?" Shire pursed his lips. 'Without the controller, this Rune Speech will be difficult to manage.' He thought for a few seconds and decided to try using Shui Yumo again.
"For the temperature-control Rune from the Third Imperial Winery, currently in use in the lake of the underground cavern inhabited by the Frogman Race near me, where can I find the controller for this Rune set?" Shire wrote the query on a piece of beast hide with a quill dipped in Shui Yumo. He paused for a few seconds, then added a few constraints, such as "closest to me" and "with no danger in acquiring."
After Shire lifted his quill, the Shui Yumo finally began to shift. It soon formed a new sentence, a very short one. Compared to the amount of "ink" Shire had used to write his question, the answer clearly didn't require much at all. Shire sometimes grumbled to himself, wondering if the disappearing Shui Yumo could be considered an embezzlement of his property.
