Chapter 314: Chapter 280: The Flustered and Exasperated Feathered Serpent God (Part 2)

No one was telling Shire, "Look at those elephants, so much meat," anymore. After everyone had eaten their fill, they were gradually able to appreciate the joys of life and the pleasures of nature.

Thinking back to when Bai Mao’s eyes had lit up at the sight of a herd of elephants emerging from the forest, Shire couldn’t help but shake his head. Of course, after Bai Mao saw the Elephant Lord, his eyes had turned ashen.

"Let’s go check this place out tomorrow," Shire said, holding a cup of hot tea. He jumped down from his chair and walked over to the wooden map. He ran his hand over it; One-Eyed’s craftsmanship still needed some work, and there were some splinters he hadn’t shaved off. Shire’s finger finally stopped on a location. On his Domain map, this spot had originally been the territory of the Great Goblin Evil Throat Army. Now, it was marked with both crossed swords and a question mark. ’This means there will be a fight, but I might also encounter something unexpected or another Race.’

This was the first time such a situation had appeared, which filled him with a bit of anticipation for the place. ’I’ve found Rune Speech, the ant colony, and the Tree-man Race before. I wonder what’s waiting for me here.’

...

Meanwhile, deep beneath the tallest square tower of the Feathered Serpent Kingdom, the High Priest was leaning on his Bone Staff, holding a torch as he walked into the depths of the cavern.

The Bone Staff tapped against the floor, making a continuous TAP, TAP sound. In the entire cavern, only the dim light from his torch could push back the endless Darkness.

"Feathered Serpent God, did you summon me?" the High Priest asked, arriving in the underground chamber and bowing respectfully.

His movements were perfect. If Shire had been there, he would have marveled that a goblin could perform human etiquette to such a degree.

"You have failed," a cold voice echoed from the depths, accompanied by the continuous SCRAPE, SCRAPE of scales rubbing together.

"No, Feathered Serpent God, we did not fail. We were merely probing the enemy’s situation," the High Priest said hastily.

"Do you take me for a fool who knows nothing?" The voice from the depths was tinged with suppressed Anger. Then, two giant, yellow lanterns lit up—the eyes of the Feathered Serpent.

The High Priest stood frozen in place. He heard a HISSING sound from ahead as a foul, fishy stench wafted over and enveloped him. The pair of eyes stared at him intently. "Please, allow me to explain..."

"Silence!" a loud roar interrupted the High Priest. "If I didn’t still need you to deal with those goblins, I would devour you right now."

The Feathered Serpent God writhed its body, the scraping of its scales growing more frequent. It was clearly furious. "You can’t even defeat a group of goblins, and after I gave you so many methods and Abilities. And now you dare to deceive me."

It slowly raised its head, looking down condescendingly at the flustered High Priest. "Did you think that because it’s winter, I would fall into a deep slumber and have no time to manage you?"

"No, Feathered Serpent God, please calm your Anger," the High Priest said, his body trembling slightly.

"At first, that was my intention," the Feathered Serpent God said, flicking its tongue. "I didn’t pay those creatures much mind, but now they dare to toy with me like this."

The Feathered Serpent God swung its head, slamming it against the surrounding stone walls. Rocks continuously CRASHED down, making the High Priest grow increasingly panicked. He even fumbled as he prepared to kneel, praying that the Feathered Serpent God wouldn’t bring the whole place down.

"Toying with my blessings was one thing, but now they dare to steal an Ability directly from me? Do they think I wouldn’t know?" The Feathered Serpent God’s furious voice echoed throughout the entire underground chamber. It was clear it was now absolutely livid.

Kneeling on the ground, the High Priest’s entire body was trembling. This was the first time he had ever seen the Feathered Serpent God so enraged. Ever since he became High Priest and began serving this Evil God, he had never witnessed such a scene.

At the same time, however, he muttered under his breath, ’What kind of goblin would have the audacity and the Ability to snatch an Ability directly from the Feathered Serpent God?’

He thought back to his earlier plan to groom the leader of that goblin group as his successor for the High Priest position. After all, he was old—practically ancient for a goblin in the Nightmare Forest. But now, with the Feathered Serpent God enraged... ’It seems my previous plan is no longer feasible. The Feathered Serpent God’s wrath won’t be easily pacified.’

"Now! Send out your damned kin, those squealing little green-skins, and bring him back to me! Remember, I want him alive! Alive!" the Feathered Serpent God roared, continuing to slam against the cavern walls.

"Yes, yes!" the High Priest said, nodding furiously. However, he recalled Bald Hide’s earlier report and couldn’t help but ask tentatively, "If you were to go personally, I’m sure those creatures would..."

"Are you questioning me?" The Feathered Serpent God stopped its rampage, its voice turning icy cold.

"No, Great Feathered Serpent God, please forgive me!" the High Priest immediately begged for mercy. If it decided to swallow him, he wouldn’t even be enough to get stuck in its teeth.

"Do you think I don’t want to go myself? It’s winter! Winter!" The Feathered Serpent God’s voice held a trace of impotent rage. Its eyes were locked on the High Priest before it. If it didn’t need this old goblin to organize its "food" to survive, it really would have swallowed him in one gulp.

"Find him. Bring him back. I want to see what kind of goblin in this forest is so unbelievably audacious," the Feathered Serpent God commanded the High Priest, HISSING as it flicked its tongue.

But just as the High Priest was about to reply, the Feathered Serpent raised its head again. Its massive eyes scanned the Darkness at the entrance behind them, and the flicking of its tongue quickened. "Interesting. Have your subordinates become so unruly?"

The High Priest froze at these words. He didn’t know what the Feathered Serpent God was talking about and instinctively glanced back. But the entrance was completely dark; there was no light at all. In the entire underground chamber, the only three things emitting light were his torch and the Feathered Serpent’s two yellow eyes.

"Did you think I wouldn’t find you just because you’re hiding in the shadows?" The Feathered Serpent’s voice was filled with deep contempt. It then reared its head and spat violently toward the ground at the entrance. A massive Lightning Ball, flashing with brilliant white light, shot forward and slammed into the ground with a deafening BOOM.

Dust and smoke instantly exploded outwards, filling the chamber. Debris flew everywhere as the ground was blown apart. A continuous CRACKLING sound of electricity echoed from the spot, and the air, thick with dust, gave off a burnt, acrid smell.

"Feathered Serpent God, what’s wrong?" The High Priest bowed his head slightly, trying to cover his nose and mouth with his clothes, but to little effect.

"It got away?" The Feathered Serpent God ignored the High Priest’s question and continued flicking its tongue, "tasting" the air. "Quite clever. It escaped so quickly. To be able to travel through shadows..."

The High Priest didn’t understand what the Feathered Serpent God was saying. He just cautiously turned his head to look again at the scorched earth crackling with arcs of electricity.

"It’s likely not one of your subordinates. The scent is foreign," the Feathered Serpent God said, slowly lowering its head until its two massive yellow eyes were right in front of the High Priest. "Find that goblin. Don’t make me say it a second time. Otherwise, you and all your little things will be devoured."

"Yes, yes," the High Priest stammered, nodding frantically.

"Get out," the Feathered Serpent God said, turning its head away. The sound of scraping scales resumed. "Tomorrow, it’s ten goblins as usual. Also, it’s been a long time since you’ve offered me any Naga. I believe I told you I need them to enhance my Magic Ability."

"Yes, Feathered Serpent God. I will find a way," the High Priest said with a pained expression. It looked like he was going to have a very busy few days.

Leaving the underground chamber, he couldn’t help but glance back. The High Priest now understood what had just happened, but it left him feeling puzzled. Who was it that had been hiding in the shadows, probing this place?

’Could it be those humans who want to buy the bubbling leaves? But haven’t they not arrived yet?’
