Chapter 311: Chapter 279: Uncle, You’ve Gone Bad
"Vivian became the Second Prince’s Magic Consultant?" Shire was so startled he nearly dropped his teacup. "What was she thinking?"
"I tried to persuade her for a long time," Uncle Musa sighed, shaking his head. "But it was no use. She’s already made up her mind."
Shire slumped back in his chair, disheartened. He remembered his sister was exactly like this—usually boisterous and noisy, but once she made a decision, no one could talk her out of it. She would only learn her lesson after running headfirst into a wall.
"But, Young Master, you don’t have to worry too much. The two Great Mages are backing her up," Uncle Musa said, trying to console Shire after seeing his expression. "They should at least be able to guarantee her personal safety."
"Vivian... what was she thinking?" Shire frowned, looking at Uncle Musa, who sat before him.
Uncle Musa had taken the initiative to use the Teleportation Gate to come to the Fortress. According to him, once the floor tiles of the house were more or less finished, he activated the gate at dusk. This time, he didn’t run any experiments; instead, he made himself the first test subject.
And the reason he was so eager to see the Young Master again was that he had made a major discovery.
Shire had also asked who had helped Uncle Musa operate the controller on the other side. His uncle smiled and said it was a Magic Puppet—an Arcane Magic Puppet created by Vivian.
"She just wanted to help you, Young Master. After all, I can only connect with the Third Prince, and we still needed a contact on the Second Prince’s side," Uncle Musa said, taking a sip of his tea. "This Red Bull actually tastes even better with milk."
"For now, we can only add honey and milk," Shire nodded. "So, Vivian volunteered to go undercover by the Second Prince’s side?"
"Yes. And according to her, the two Great Mages actually agreed with her choice," Uncle Musa said.
"Those two Great Mages agreed?"
"Miss Vivian’s reasoning is that doing this will allow her to train herself, deeply involve herself in a major event, and solve a mystery," Uncle Musa said, putting down his teacup and nodding as he continued to relay the message.
"A mystery? What mystery?" Shire sat up straight again and asked.
"Uh, it’s about," Uncle Musa paused to think, then said seriously, "why the Fran Kingdom will disappear in the future."
"The Fran Kingdom will disappear?" Upon hearing this, Shire leaned forward, placing his hands on the table. He asked, a little bewildered, "What’s this all about? Why would it disappear? The Fran Kingdom has existed for 500 years."
"I’m not sure about the details. Miss Vivian just said it was something the Arcane Grandmaster, Affif, saw in a prophecy."
"In a prophecy?"
"Yes, it was a prophecy made by that Great Mage."
’Good thing Vivian wasn’t the one who made it.’ Shire found the prophecy hard to believe, but hearing it came from a Great Mage and not Vivian made him frown deeply.
"Actually, Miss Vivian has made a prophecy, too. She said it was the result of her studies with Great Mage Affif, but her prophecy was about your situation, Young Master."
"My situation?" Shire’s expression tensed. ’She didn’t discover something, did she?’
"No, it’s a bit strange," Uncle Musa said, looking hesitant. But at Shire’s urging, he revealed the results of the prophecy. "Miss Vivian only saw a pair of giant eyes in a thick, gray fog."
"Eyes?" Shire was taken aback. ’I feel like I’ve heard that before. I think Sofia mentioned something similar.’
"Yes. But the eyes didn’t cause any discomfort. And Vivian also heard a voice tell her, ’You should not have come.’" Uncle Musa said.
"’You should not have come?’" Shire stroked his chin, mulling over what his sister had experienced. ’Sofia told me before that she saw a pair of eyes filled with Divinity—that must have been the gaze of a god. Now Vivian has seen them too, but unlike Sofia’s experience, Vivian didn’t feel much divine majesty. Instead, she was warned. What’s going on? What’s the deal with that Obelisk?’
"So, this prophecy also solidified her choice," Uncle Musa said with a shrug. "After all, a situation like this is just too bizarre."
"Compared to that, I find the disappearance of the Fran Kingdom even more unbelievable," Shire said with a twitch of his lips. ’Oh well. It just so happens we have people placed by both princes now. Those two Great Mages should still be of some use.’
"Speaking of which, I’ve discovered something about the Third Prince," Uncle Musa said, his expression turning serious.
"I imagine it’s that the Third Prince has gotten very close to Valentine." Shire’s gaze swept over the wooden map hanging on the back wall. Just beyond the forest lay Count Valentine’s territory.
"More than that. The Third Prince led me to meet Count Valentine. Or rather, I was personally present for a meeting between the two of them."
"I imagine those two are putting on a united front. They want to cooperate, but they each have their own little schemes," Shire said with a smile.
"Exactly. How did you know, Young Master?"
"It’s easy to deduce. When a schemer gets together with another schemer, that’s what happens," Shire shrugged.
"In that case, you’ll never guess who else I saw, Young Master."
"Who else did you see? A minister from Plantagenet City? Other border nobles?" Shire leaned forward, offering a few examples, but Uncle Musa negated them all with a shake of his head.
"It was Auberto. Your personal guard." Finally, Uncle Musa revealed the answer himself.
