Chapter 296: Chapter 269: Snatching the Feathered Serpent Evil God’s Ability

"Caocao, what is this thing?" Shire asked as he walked up to the Giant.

"Do you want a chestnut?" The Giant took two chestnuts from his bag and offered them to Shire. "Chestnuts are tasty. Green Egg eats them."

"No, no, I don’t want any." Shire waved his hand, then sat down cross-legged beside the Giant.

To be honest, Shire was very fond of Caocao. The clan often had the kind-hearted giant help move heavy objects of all sorts, from wood to stone. The Centaurs also needed Caocao’s help when building the wooden houses for the village. However, the elephant herd had recently started helping the Centaurs handle the timber, so construction was speeding up. The only one in the whole clan who was a little unhappy was probably Big Golden Fur.

The young elephants often used their trunks to pull the Unicorn’s mane and tail, and it could only snort and run away. There was nothing it could do; the Elephant Lord was watching from nearby.

Even so, the Unicorn still hadn’t left, always returning to the Fortress morning and night.

Caocao was always hardworking and uncomplaining, like a sensible child. Everyone in the clan was very fond of him. Whenever Little John visited, he would bring him things to eat, sometimes even cookies that Mary had baked herself.

"Did you make that thing?" Shire asked with a smile, pointing at the "Clone" working in the distance.

On the way over, Shire had asked Agatha exactly when this had started. Agatha was a bit surprised to learn that Shire didn’t know Caocao could create a clone, but she quickly explained that they had only discovered it in the last couple of days.

These days, Shire had been completely absorbed in managing his subordinates and coordinating the elephant herd, so he was out of the loop about what was happening in the Rune Speech warehouse.

"I saw Lame Leg’s ’Big Treasure.’ It was a lot of fun," Caocao said, turning to Shire with an inquisitive gaze. "So I wanted to have one too."

Shire chuckled reassuringly. "It’s all right, don’t panic. I just came to have a look. This isn’t a bad thing at all."

Caocao put down his bag and stood up. The red, gelatinous clone then walked over to him. As it drew near, Shire watched as the clone was simply absorbed into the Giant, vanishing as if it had seeped in through his pores.

’How interesting.’ Shire stood up, rubbing his chin. He began to circle Caocao, studying him, and at the same time, pulled up the giant’s status panel.

[Name: Caocao]

[Race: Giant]

[Danger Level: 11, Slightly Dangerous]

[Personality: Kind]

[Abilities: Regeneration, Evil Energy Clone]

[Own State: Blessing of the Evil God (Positive)]

’Evil Energy Clone?’ He frowned slightly. ’I’ve never seen the Giant with this ability before. It must be a new development.’

"Bring that thing out again," Shire said with a wave of his hand.

"You mean ’Red Big Treasure’?" Caocao asked in his rumbling voice.

’Another Big Treasure?’ Shire’s lip twitched. ’It was bad enough when Lame Leg named his Secret Servant ’Big Treasure,’ but now Caocao’s calling his that too, just adding ’Red’ to it. Let’s give it a new name.’

Caocao took a huge, deep breath. Then, as if he were forcefully squeezing water out of his own body, red liquid began to seep rapidly from his pores. The liquid flowed onto the ground and transformed into a gel. Within seconds, the gel stretched out, gradually taking on a humanoid form with facial features identical to the Giant’s.

"What should we call it?" The Giant took several gasping breaths, then bent over wearily, hands on his knees. Creating the Evil Energy Clone seemed to have taken a lot out of him.

’This ability...’ Shire mused, sizing up the clone. Without a command from the Giant, the gelatinous clone simply stood in place. Shire reached out and poked it a few times, finding the surface surprisingly springy. But the deeper he pressed, the harder it became to penetrate, as if it were completely solid inside. ’And it can even do quite a bit of work.’

’This must be another result of the [Blessing of the God of War and Glory],’ he thought, gently patting the clone’s surface. The gelatinous material wobbled with his movements. ’Great elasticity, and it feels good to the touch.’

Thinking of Broken Tooth’s new ability, [Shadow Darting], which he had seen a few days ago, Shire was certain that [Evil Energy Clone] was Caocao’s new ability as well. The War God’s Blessing must make it easier for his subordinates to comprehend new ways to use their abilities. But why were Broken Tooth and Caocao the first to learn something new?

’Logically, neither of those two seem particularly bright. They aren’t the type to quickly grasp combat techniques.’ He watched as the Evil Energy Clone walked to the side, scooped up a rock from the ground, and carried it to the other side. Meanwhile, Giant Caocao just stood there as if it had nothing to do with him—no spells or gestures required. ’Is there a trick to it?’

"What were you thinking about when you made this thing?" Shire asked, looking up at the Giant.

"’I was a little hungry, but I’d finished all my snacks. I wanted to go get food, but my work wasn’t done,’ Caocao explained haltingly. After this had happened a few times, his body suddenly began to seep liquid on one occasion, and then the clone appeared."

’A manifestation of Evil Power...’ Shire mused softly. ’It must be the Evil Power of the Feathered Serpent God... or maybe one of the abilities of the Feathered Serpent Evil God?’

He wasn’t sure. He wondered if the Elephant Lord would have a definitive answer, but the development of this ability was completely unexpected. ’Could it be that after using an ability for a long time, you can gradually master a new one just by having the right intention?’

Neither Broken Tooth nor Caocao could explain their actions clearly, but they did have one thing in common: they both used their abilities almost all day long. When Broken Tooth was out on patrol, he spent nearly his entire time hiding in the shadows, only emerging to eat, sleep, or see his leader. As for Caocao, his [Blessing of the Evil God] had been constantly active since he received it—so much so that Shire sometimes forgot he even had the ability.

’So it’s a ’practice makes perfect’ sort of thing?’ Shire’s eyes narrowed. ’If that’s really the case, I’ll have to get my subordinates to do more training. For example, make Red Eyes practice his Horizontal Sweep ten thousand times a day. He probably won’t have any energy left to tease the Brain-Eating Monster then.’

’Excellent. Looks like I’ll have two ’Giants’ to use now.’ He smiled, filled with anticipation for the potential changes in his subordinates.

Immediately after, Shire cast a [Group Dumbing Curse] on himself. ’Practice makes perfect,’ he thought. ’I can’t fall behind.’

Caocao looked at Shire and asked in his rumbling voice, "What should Big Treasure’s name be?"

"’What name...?’ Shire mused, pinching his chin. ’Caocao, do you believe in light?’"

"Caocao believes in Green Egg."

Shire smiled. "Let’s call it Red Ultraman."
