Chapter 2880: Chapter 2880: Everything Explained (6)
Yang Ruxin led the children out of the liquor shop; Lao Bai was already waiting outside and took them to the house that had been bought in advance.
It was said that that very night, a shop on the south side of the county town suddenly caught fire, burning the place to the ground. There were no casualties, but while patrolling at night the Government Officials discovered several suspicious individuals, so they detained them all, and those who resisted were killed on the spot.
Gu Qingheng did not return all night and only came back at dawn the next day.
"Did you find out who was behind it?" As soon as he entered the room, Yang Ruxin woke up.
"On the surface it looks like someone was jealous of the herbal liquor’s good sales and tried to frame us, but in fact there was someone pulling the strings." Gu Qingheng answered as he took off his clothes. "My preliminary suspicion is that they’re from Wa Country."
"Wa Country?"
"Perhaps." Gu Qingheng got into bed and pulled Yang Ruxin into his arms. "Because one of the dead men had something odd about his toes; they look very much like the result of wearing wooden clogs year in, year out." With that he closed his eyes; this night had truly exhausted him.
Yang Ruxin didn’t ask any more. She simply let him hold her as she drifted toward sleep, but she herself couldn’t fall asleep. Wa Country? The Sun Cult? But it absolutely couldn’t be Yong Cang, because Yong Cang had been poisoned by her and had never been cured. He might not have died all these years, but he definitely hadn’t suffered any less; the fact that he was still alive at all was already proof of his toughness. So who could it be?
Gu Qingheng was already sound asleep by now.
Yang Ruxin moved his arm off her, got up, walked to the table, picked up paper and brush, and began sketching a chart of people. Yong Cang was the Sect Hierarch of the Sun Cult, and the King of Han was the Sect Hierarch of the Flame Sect, and the two of them were cousins. Cui Meng was the King of Han’s birth mother, but who was the King of Han’s true father?
Ten years ago, the Sun Cult and the Flame Sect were already quite powerful, but back then Yong Cang and the King of Han were both very young—where would they have gotten the ability? So there had to be someone behind them.
Yang Ruyu had said that the other men in black called that leading man in black "Saint Lord."
Which meant that this Saint Lord had single-handedly created the Sun Cult and the Flame Sect, and then propped up Yong Cang and the King of Han.
If this Saint Lord really existed, then everything could be explained.
Would this Saint Lord be the King of Han’s biological father, or Yong Cang’s biological father?
Setting the charcoal stick down, Yang Ruxin rubbed her face. It seemed this person was coming with ill intent. After so many years of calm, waves were finally about to rise again.
Still, that was fine. This person had hidden for so many years and done so many wicked things; it was time for his fox tail to show.
The question was, how could she drag him out into the open?
It looked like she needed to do some careful planning.
After breakfast, someone from the Governor’s Office came over with a message, saying that the old man who’d been poisoned was actually just a vagrant who had been forcibly taken by those people, then fed poison and sent over to extort them.
Those people also confessed that they’d been instigated by someone, but they had no idea who it was; they hadn’t even seen the person’s face clearly.
With that, the matter was completely cleared up.
The Governor’s Office put out an official notice, and then paraded the lanky man and his accomplices through the streets for all to see before locking them up in the prison, to be beheaded after the autumn assizes.
This, in turn, served as another wave of free advertising for Fuji Herbal Liquor; in some places people even started bidding against each other for a single jar.
But private individuals bidding up the price for one or two jars didn’t matter. Those distributors, however, didn’t dare to bid up prices in large quantities, because the distillery had rules: they were not allowed to jack up prices at will. Once discovered, their distribution rights would be revoked.
