The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard
Chapter 2919: Heh, That’s the Compton Family!
"All secretive like that, what are you up to? Seeing us get our supplies, what, you feeling upset about it or something?"
Yackey Decker, dragged to the side by Beau Compton, shook off Beau’s hand and stared doubtfully at Beau’s grim face. "Who are you putting that expression on for?"
Beau ignored Nico Decker’s complaining and said seriously, "I’m just going to ask you one thing. You answer me honestly."
Yackey glanced at Beau. "What’s with you, looking so grave? What do you want to ask?"
Beau lowered his voice. "That Sect Master of yours... did you guys find someone to pretend to be him?"
"Huh?"
Yackey stared, then almost jumped up. "Mr. Compton, what’s that supposed to mean?"
Beau pressed Yackey down with a hand and spoke under his breath. "I’m just worried you lot will lose your minds from never getting any supplies. After all these years we’ve never seen any new Sect Master, and now suddenly one pops up, claiming to be personally appointed by the Hall Master, saying he slaughtered hundreds of the Demon Race—sounds like a damn legend..."
Yackey’s expression turned strange; he finally understood why Beau was so serious. So it turned out they’d been thinking all along that he and the others had found some fake Sect Master to put on a show here!
"If it’s real, that’s great. With someone like that showing up, maybe your Majestic Sect will finally get its day in the sun. But if it’s fake, and today’s incident spreads, that’s a huge crime for you lot."
"Carson Flores stuck his neck out today and offended the Military Supply Office, that’s one thing. But he also offended the Compton Family. Don’t be fooled by Taliesin Compton bowing his head and apologizing afterward—he’s definitely going to investigate. If he finds out it’s fake, not only is he screwed, your entire Majestic Sect is going to be in deep shit."
"I’ve been thinking: if he’s some counterfeit you guys dug up, the best move right now is to dump the blame fast. As long as you..."
"Enough!"
Yackey cut off Maverick Roth, half crying half laughing. "Mr. Compton, you never have a pleasant word in your mouth, but you’re not a bad guy. Relax, our Master Flores is genuinely appointed by the Hall Master. Absolutely not a fake."
Beau blinked, looking utterly unconvinced. "Really really real?"
"Of course it’s real."
Yackey chuckled. "You’re giving us way too much credit. How big a pair of balls would we need to dare find someone to impersonate a Sect Master appointed by the Hall Master? And then still claim he cut down hundreds of the Demon Race—that’s just asking for trouble for ourselves."
Beau let out a breath, but his expression turned rather subtle. "What’s your Master Flores’s background? And how did that ’slaughtered hundreds of demons’ business happen?"
Yackey thought about it. Not many people here knew about this, but in the Bitter Sea Immortal Domain it was common knowledge, hardly a secret. So he gave a brief recount.
After Beau listened, his eyes were full of surprise. He was silent for a while before finally sighing. "This Master Flores is a man of temperament. And his name’s already registered with the Hall Master. No matter how strong he actually is, your Majestic Sect is probably going to have a turnaround from now on."
Yackey let out a snickering laugh; inwardly he was feeling downright elated.
Thinking about Housekeeper Roth’s attitude every time he’d come begging for supplies in the past, and then looking at Housekeeper Roth’s expression today—like he’d just eaten shit—Yackey felt wildly satisfied.
"Our Sect Master is young and promising, his future is limitless. Who knows, one day our Sect Master’s name might end up carved on the Immortal God Stele too?"
Beau gave Yackey a punch. "Say you’re fat and you start panting. Don’t get happy too early. Even if Carson Flores really is the Sect Master, today he seriously slapped the Compton Family in the face. Taliesin Compton might not be one of their top disciples, but that doesn’t mean the Compton Family doesn’t have powerful people. What happened today, someone will definitely be secretly nursing that grudge. Tell your Sect Master to keep his head down and stay away from Compton Family people."
Yackey’s smile faded. Mentioning the Compton Family, he was pretty anxious too.
That’s the Compton Family we’re talking about!
"Alright!"
Yackey agreed, thought for a moment, then added two more words. "Thanks."
Yackey turned to leave. Norvella Ward and Maelor Roth walked up to Beau’s side, and Norvella asked, "Well?"
Beau turned around, his tone subtle. "It’s real."
Norvella and Maelor both widened their eyes. "Really really real?"
Their reactions were almost identical to Beau’s just now. Beau laughed. "Yeah."
Beau told them about the Demon Race incident. After Norvella and Maelor listened, their expressions turned just as subtle as Beau’s.
"The Majestic Sect has really gotten themselves a hell of a guy. After suffering for so many years, they might finally be on the rise."
Maelor lowered his voice. "That’s not necessarily true. The Compton Family... heh."
Norvella frowned, thought for a moment, then said, "Right. If I remember correctly, Compton Family people hold positions in the upper ranks of the War God Temple. If the Compton Family wants to take revenge on Carson Flores, on the Majestic Sect, that’d be way too easy. All they’d have to do is assign them a mission that can’t be completed..."
Beau clasped his hands behind his back, frowning as he sighed. "That’s already beyond what we can interfere in. If they really want revenge, they’ll definitely do it in a way that’s seamless, leaving no opening for anyone to complain. Ah... let’s just hope this matter ends here."
