Chapter 166 - starlight requirements?

I waited for a moment before replying to her.

"Hmm... how about we learn to fly with wings? If we create wings with our elements, we can surely fly. The rest should be easy."

She went into contemplation.

"Ah... wings. That’s not a bad idea, Gray. But we need more control over our elements."

I nodded at that.

"Hey, how about you try making a light spear, make it solid, and step on it?"

I created a small, brick-like object made of Darkness in the air and solidified it.

Then I touched it to make sure it was solid and tried taking a step on it.

Luna’s eyes lit up as well.

But then we heard a voice.

"What are you two doing?"

We looked in that direction and saw a woman who looked to be in her thirties standing there, observing us.

We looked at her, and I said,

"Training..."

She narrowed her eyes.

"You two? I don’t remember recruiting you. Are you nobles?"

I nodded.

Then she nodded and showed us the way.

A big question mark appeared in my head, but I simply went along with it.

I gave Luna a look, and she also decided to follow the situation.

We went with her.

Luna came beside me and asked,

"Hey, do you know what’s going on?"

I shook my head.

"I don’t know. But it’s something like training... Or I got it. It’s a requirement. This should be fun. Do you want to join in and have some fun, or are you tired?"

She, of course, never missed a fun opportunity and nodded.

"Of course I’m in. Let’s go."

I smirked at that, and she smirked back.

Like two little criminals, we followed her.

Then we saw a room filled with candidates close to our age, with some even older than us.

I looked at Luna, took her hand, and went toward the back.

She followed me.

We waited and observed what was happening.

As soon as we went there, most of them looked at us.

Our appearances were too eye-catching, so we quickly became the center of attention.

But I kept a calm expression and looked at Luna.

"Luna, can you make your Light into a solid state? I only know about Darkness, and I know Light is the counterpart of Darkness. They have many similarities."

She nodded.

"I normally use my Light Element to heal, attack, or even augment myself."

"I’ve never tried to solidify it."

Then she thought for a moment before remembering something.

"Ah, yeah. When I make Light Spears, I make them solidified. I completely forgot because I do it subconsciously."

I nodded.

At first, I also had to consciously think about solidifying my attacks. But once I got used to it, it happened subconsciously without me even thinking about it.

Then the woman who had called us there came in front of the group and said,

"Okay. We’ve trained you for more than a year now. It’s time to see your progress."

"We selected and recruited you through an exam."

My eyes lit up, and I looked at Luna.

"This is fun, just as I thought."

Luna nodded as well.

"Let’s see."

I nodded.

Then she came in front of us and took out a sword.

"Okay. Each one of you will come one by one and attack me. I’ll evaluate your abilities and give you the chance to become a knight of the Starlight Family or a mage."

Luna and I watched as they one by one stepped forward and attacked the woman with everything they had.

They used elemental swords, movement techniques, and many other things to try to make her acknowledge them.

We looked at them, and I said to Luna,

"They use too much mana in each attack, and they don’t have proper control over it because of that."

Luna nodded.

"Yeah. They must think more mana means more power, but without control, it’s a waste. It’s not as effective as someone who has less mana but more control."

I nodded.

We studied all of them and exchanged our thoughts about their weaknesses and strengths.

"That guy has strength, but he utilizes it wrongly. He puts so much force into his punch, but his body doesn’t support that punch. So he’s only using his fist strength. If he uses his entire body to create momentum, he can get better results."

Luna nodded once again and pointed at a girl who was using Ice Magic.

"She makes her Ice stronger, but the momentum is low, so its damage is low compared to the others."

I added,

"Usually, I like to make my attacks as light as possible so they’re very fast and can hit the enemy quickly."

"I already know that if I make my normal attacks too strong, the enemy can take advantage of it and avoid them or come in for an attack. So when I use my main attack, it doesn’t have as much power because I use most of it in my normal attacks."

She nodded.

I took out another orange juice and gave it to Luna.

Her eyes lit up as always, and she immediately put in a straw and drank the orange juice like a hamster with its cheeks puffed out.

That sight was so cute that I always felt like pinching her cheeks.

But I stayed still and continued watching the battle.

Eventually, I came to a conclusion.

This woman was strong.

She was only looking for people who had the potential to become stronger.

And it seemed she already had a few people in mind.

I wondered how she could judge us so quickly when she already knew all the candidates.

Then it hit me.

She had looked at us and studied all of us before letting them fight her.

She could observe that much from just one glance.

Not bad.

Then Luna’s turn came.

She immediately finished her orange juice and got up, summoning her icy-blue sword into her hand.

She looked so elegant with that sword in her hand, exactly like an Ice Princess.

That sword looked like it had been made for her.

I observed the match with interest.

I was curious about her new Moon Element. What kind of applications did it have?

And if she had awakened the Moon Element, was there someone who possessed the Sun Affinity?

If I met someone like that, and that person was a boy, I had to beat him up before he met Luna.

An evil smirk appeared on my face.

If that bastard comes to Luna and tries to get close to her because of their opposing affinities...

If Luna knew what I was thinking, she would probably put a hand on her forehead and sigh at the nonsense going through my mind.

She looked at the instructor, who stood still with her sword drawn.

The instructor asked Luna,

"Okay. Attack me."

Luna nodded and pushed herself forward with a forceful burst of mana.

She attacked with her icy-blue sword, which was glowing with an icy-blue Aura.

The instructor’s eyes widened.

"You’ve already awakened Aura and turned it into an elemental Aura?"

Luna didn’t respond.

She attacked while her body was augmented with Lunar Energy and Light.

Her Moon Element gave her more refined Aura control and regeneration when her reserves were depleted.

That alone was almost a cheat.

Her mana, wounds, and abilities could all recover faster than normal because of her Lunar Energy.

Combined with her already-developed battle instincts, she was deadly on the battlefield.

Her attacks clearly carried her intent, and every movement was refined to a point where I couldn’t find many flaws.

I noticed a few, but those were things even I did.

That didn’t mean the instructor couldn’t see her flaws, though.

As they fought longer, the instructor seemed more satisfied with what she was seeing from Luna’s power.

Luna used her Ice Element, and even from far away, I could feel the chill of her Ice.

They were deadly.

I observed more closely with my Perception and saw the Lunar Energy within her Ice attacks.

I smirked.

She was using Lunar Energy to stabilize her Ice attacks while using her power to improve their proficiency and speed.

It was really impressive.

After all, she had only awakened her Moon Affinity recently, yet she was already using everything she had.

She continued attacking the instructor.

The instructor was more than willing to pass Luna’s trial, but she wanted to see what Luna truly had, so she continued fighting her.

The onlookers watched the fight with wide eyes.

They couldn’t understand how someone their age could be this strong, even among the nobles.

Luna’s sword glowed with Ice Aura, and whenever it touched something, it froze.

But the instructor was far stronger.

She neutralized Luna’s Ice, though it caused some problems because Luna’s class gave her Ice a fraction of additional power that couldn’t simply be dismissed like normal Ice.

The fight continued.

I observed every attack with my Perception, studying the instructor’s attacks and how effectively she used her power.

I still couldn’t grasp the exact distribution of her power, but I watched the fight with intense focus.
