Chapter 175: Recorder of Prophetic Texts (2)

From behind him, a familiar voice called out.

“Are ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍you acting all melancholy by yourself again?”

“Oh. ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍Big Sister, is your work finished?”

“I ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍am a Guildmaster; when does the work ever truly end? I am just taking a short break,” Cha Yu-na replied with a grumble as she sat in the empty seat across from Shin Yu-hwan.

Watching ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍her, Shin Yu-hwan let out a playful smile. “Big Sister, you look a bit younger than before.”

“What are you talking about all of a sudden? Nothing has particularly changed.”

“That is not true. A lot has changed, has it not?”

It was exactly as Shin Yu-hwan said. In truth, only one thing had changed, but that single event had caused a chain reaction of countless other changes. It could be said that much had indeed changed. Shin Yu-hwan’s comment about her looking younger was likely one of the chain reactions following those shifts. Just as wrinkles vanish and one looks younger when a suffocating problem is finally resolved.

Cha Yu-na understood the meaning behind his words, so she replied with a smile. “You are right. My surroundings have certainly changed.”

“Especially you, Big Sister. I think you have brightened up the most.”

“That is because I have reclaimed the joy of the past. It has been ten years since we all sat together, laughing and talking. Especially with you and Seora in the same place.”

It had been about a week since Han Seora woke up. Fortunately, thanks to Ha Eun-ha’s significant help in the early stages, she was able to adapt to daily life slowly without any aftereffects. Because of that, they were able to enjoy the same happiness as before. For example, sitting around together and laughing while chatting about trivial things.

‘Senior Jin-seong, Seora, Yu-hwan, and me. And now we even have Han Su-yeon.’

These were all changes that occurred because a single person, Han Seora, had returned. Of course, it was a shame that Baek Ha-seong could not be with them, but this alone was a great blessing. And he would surely return once more when time passed. Shin Yu-hwan had said so, and since he had spoken with him at some point, it was likely true.

Cha Yu-na thought of this and spoke to Shin Yu-hwan. “By the way, why are you here alone when Seora, the center of all these changes, is upstairs?”

“Ah, Big Sister Seora is talking with the young man.”

“Wait? With Cadet Choi Yu-seong?”

“Yes. Big Sister requested it personally, so I brought him right away.”

“Was it not time for classes at Glory?”

“I just told them officially that I was taking him.”

Cha Yu-na was momentarily lost for words. Even if it was at Han Seora’s request, his drive was so reckless that the only word for it was unstoppable. However…

“Right. That is just like you.” Cha Yu-na decided to let it go. It was not as if Shin Yu-hwan’s recklessness was anything new. He was like that in the past, he was like that now, and he would likely be like that in the future. Cha Yu-na knew that she would only be the one losing out if she paid too much attention to it.

“Then is it just Seora and Cadet Choi Yu-seong alone?”

“Yeah. The guards do not enter the hospital room.”

“Hmm. Then it should be quite interesting.”

“What should be?”

“It is a meeting between a person with many secrets and a person who can read those secrets, is it not? Of course it will be interesting.”

In truth, she phrased it that way, but it was not as if Han Seora had a talent for reading minds. She was simply quick-witted and good at identifying minor details about an opponent, using those to form calculations.

However, if described only in that way, one might have a question. They might wonder if someone could be involved with such outstanding individuals like Baek Ha-seong or Shin Yu-hwan just by being good at reading hearts. The answer to that soon came out of Shin Yu-hwan’s mouth.

“I do not know. I am more curious about a different part.”

“A different part?”

“I wonder what the young man’s future looks like. After all, Big Sister Seora can read the future.”

Yes. The reason Han Seora was never overshadowed while being involved with such prominent figures was because she possessed a talent that allowed her to know the future. Because of that, she had been able to earn the epithet ‘Recorder of Prophetic Texts’ in the past.

However, as stated repeatedly, there is no such thing as power without a price in this world. This also applied to the talent Han Seora possessed.

“But we will never know anyway, will we?”

“That is true. No one can be told about the future Big Sister Seora reads.”

“Then is it not a waste of time to be curious?”

It was a fact that while Han Seora could read the future, she could not speak of that future to anyone else. However, Shin Yu-hwan continued as if that did not really matter.

“Even if I do not know, it is enough if Big Sister Seora knows. She always said that even if she cannot speak of it, she can change it.”

“She did say that.”

“So, if the young man’s future is bleak, she will take measures in her own way. Just as she did for me and for that bastard Baek Ha-seong.”

In other words, Shin Yu-hwan meant this: even if she could not speak, some change would surely occur, and he just had to move once he noticed that change. Cha Yu-na could not help but smile softly at the deep consideration that was unlike Shin Yu-hwan.

“I am jealous of Cadet Choi Yu-seong.”

“Huh? Is there something to be jealous of?”

“I mean, he earned the heart of the great Shin Yu-hwan, did he not? And in just a few months, too. I think it took me over a year.”

“Haha, I was young when I met you, Big Sister, and now I have aged enough.”

“That is true. You still look like a kid to me, but so much time has already passed.”

“Right. You will also be in your thir... thriving thirties soon, Big Sister.”

Shin Yu-hwan hurriedly changed his words when he saw Cha Yu-na’s soft smile turn chilly. Sensing a threat to his life, he decided he should not continue this conversation and changed the subject.

“Anyway, I am curious about what they are talking about right now.”

“…Phew. Your motive is obvious, but I will let myself be tricked.”

“What do you mean by motive? I am genuinely curious.”

Yes, while it served as a distraction, he was truly curious. Han Seora was his precious sister, and Choi Yu-seong was also a young man he cherished.

“I hope it becomes a satisfying time for both of them in many ways.”

He did not know what kind of conversation the two were having, but since it was them, they were surely spending a productive time together. Shin Yu-hwan thought so as he gulped down the rest of his coffee. He had ordered an espresso to try and set a mood, but the fact that he spit it back out and got scolded by Cha Yu-na was a different story entirely.

***

It had already been two hours since I arrived here. However, I was not bored at all. That was because there were many interesting stories among the things Han Seora told me. For example…

“So, that guy Yu-hwan once lost his temper at Yu-na, and she started crying. It was so funny seeing how he had no idea what to do.”

They were stories about the embarrassing pasts that people who now looked dignified wanted to hide.

“So, what happened after that?”

“He followed her around constantly to apologize. I think he did that for about three weeks? Looking back at that, Yu-na holds quite a grudge.”

“Well, considering who she was dealing with.”

“Hehe. I suppose so. Yu-hwan is not the type of guy to listen when you use kind words.”

Han Seora, who was laughing as if my reaction was amusing, suddenly stared at me and made an unexpected comment. “Young man, you are surprisingly similar to Baek Ha-seong.”

“To Mr. Baek Ha-seong?”

“Yes. He also used to just listen quietly whenever I told him something.”

“I can picture that perfectly without even seeing it.”

“Right? I started seeing him because that side of him was so cute.”

Hmm, I do not think I can picture that part. A cute Baek Ha-seong? It is not just hard to imagine; I cannot even begin to visualize it.

“But you also use the term ‘young man,’ Han Seora.”

“Huh?”

“Mr. Shin Yu-hwan calls me ‘young man’ every time, too. Mr. Baek Ha-seong also did that once.”

“That is because they are copying me.”

“They are copying you?”

“Yes. I used to call Yu-hwan ‘young man’ in the past. That must have influenced them.”

I see. This was also a story I did not know.

‘Then did Shin Yu-hwan call me ‘young man’ because I felt similar to him?’

Baek Ha-seong likely called me that with a similar feeling as well. While I was chewing over her words internally, Han Seora spoke up as if she had remembered something.

“Then, can I ask you one thing as well?”

“If it is something I can answer.”

“Why are you using a polite title for me when you use a regular one for Yu-hwan and Ha-seong? I feel a bit left out.”

“Uh… because those two are okay with it? Mr. Shin Yu-hwan told me to treat him comfortably, and Mr. Baek Ha-seong also gave me permission to call him that…”

“Is that so?” Han Seora wore a mischievous expression as she continued. “Then you should call me comfortably, too.”

“Comfortably?”

“Yes. But ‘Ms. Han Seora’ is too boring, so how about calling me Sister Seora?”

“…We have a twelve-year age gap.”

“Ahem! A woman always wants to be called ‘Sister’ no matter how old she gets.”

But that is not the reality, is it? However, I could not say that out loud, so I gave a vague answer.

“I am a bit embarrassed to call you ‘Sister.’ Can I just call you Han Seora?”

“Hmm… Fine. Instead, I will definitely make you call me ‘Sister’ one day.”

I hope she shows some mercy on that front. However, since I knew Han Seora’s words came from a place of playfulness, I did not react too seriously. Mixing in those kinds of jokes was part of the fun.

Perhaps because of that, Han Seora and I talked for several hours as if we would never get tired. We covered everything from stories about Shin Yu-hwan to anecdotes about others like Hong Sera and Ryu Jin-seong. By the time the bright sun began to set, Han Seora stretched and spoke in a joyful voice.

“Hehe. I am glad that, contrary to my worries, I do not feel a generation gap.”

“That was a useless worry.”

“Is it? But I heard from Yu-na that there is a word called ‘preachy old-timer’ these days? I have a ten-year gap to account for, so I should be even more careful.”

“……”

Her voice was clearly cheerful and mixed with playfulness, but I could not answer easily this time. Even though she said it in passing, the content was too heavy to simply ignore. Sensing my thoughts, Han Seora smiled and spoke.

“You do not need to make that face. It was something I could sufficiently endure.”

“But it seems the people around you could not endure it.”

“That is probably proof that I was also young. But now that everything has ended well, is that not enough? I just have to make sure I do not repeat the same mistake.”

“I see.”

In fact, there were many things to nitpick. Even if it was a mistake, it was hard to view it as a trivial one if it resulted in losing ten years. However, continuing a heavy topic was likely not a good choice.

“Then let us just go with that.”

“‘Just go with that’? Are you being a bit insincere?”

“Not at all. I am just choosing to believe you because you said you would not repeat it. I also sincerely hope you do not end up in danger anymore, Han Seora.”

“Really?”

Of course. The fact that Han Seora would be in danger again meant that people like Shin Yu-hwan and Baek Ha-seong would also get dragged in. I truly wished for such a thing to never happen. Detecting my sincerity, Han Seora showed a mysterious smile and then looked out the window as she spoke.

“Anyway, look at the time.”

“It is getting late.”

“So, it would be impolite to keep you here any longer. I think it is about time for you to head back.”

“May I?”

“Hehe. If anyone saw us, they would think I was keeping you here against your will.”

If Han Seora was saying that much, it was probably fine. I actually had quite a few things to do, so staying any longer without a reason was a loss.

‘Her eyes, which look like she found out a lot of things, are a bit concerning, but…’

Since it did not seem like she would answer even if I asked, I decided to head back.

“Then I will take my leave now.”

“Sure, sure. Let us see each other again if the opportunity arises. Next time, with Ha-seong as well.”

“I will try to make that happen.”

“I see…”

I left the hospital room, leaving behind Han Seora, who seemed lost in thought as our conversation ended.

However, because I had stayed for so long, the pine scent that had soaked into me followed me out.
