Chapter 1391: Useful Trivia
Chapter 1391: Chapter 1391: Useful Trivia
"Looks like Qingqing really is pretty capable, today actually felt quite relaxed."
Li Hao said with a smile while they were eating dinner that night.
"See? Who am I, huh? Let me tell you, I’m the one who can pinch fingers and read fortunes." Liu Yiqing said smugly.
"Listen to you, acting all pleased with yourself. How’s your training going these days?" Liu Banxia asked.
"I’ve been really swamped lately, but now I can finally free up some time. It won’t be long before a new batch of interns comes into the hospital—what do you all think?"
When they heard his question, everyone went quiet.
That’s a death-question. No matter what you say, the big demon king will definitely find a way to target you.
"It won’t get to the point where I need to call names for this, right? Liu Yiqing, Li Hao, Huang Bo, you three think it over carefully. In thirty seconds, we start the quick-answer session." Liu Banxia said.
"Teacher Liu, no need for quick-answer. Sooner or later we’re dead anyway, just tell us what exactly you want us to do." Liu Yiqing steeled herself.
"Nothing much, mainly I want to see how many interns each of you can take on." Liu Banxia said with a squinting smile.
"Well I’m not taking anyone, at most I’ll take those who are interested in pediatric general surgery. Plus you six and your NOSES surgery training, that’s my assignment."
"Two should be still okay, I guess." Liu Yiqing hesitated a little.
Liu Banxia didn’t say anything, just ate and watched her.
"Two’s already not few, how could I possibly take care of more?" Liu Yiqing muttered.
"So you mean, two per person is no problem?" Liu Banxia asked with a smile.
"Uh... should be? I don’t really know, don’t ask me, ask Huang Bo." After saying that, Liu Yiqing transformed into a dedicated eater.
Liu Banxia turned his head to look at Huang Bo, who sighed inwardly. "Teacher Liu, two is the max, can’t go any higher. I’m really worried we won’t be able to mentor them properly and end up holding them back."
"Yeah, that’s twelve people all together, that’s not a small number." Li Hao added.
"Okay, then two it is. I actually thought you’d each just take one, build up some experience, and only take more next year." Liu Banxia said, then went back to eating.
The three of them looked at each other, and in an instant the food didn’t taste so good anymore.
Because they couldn’t tell whether Liu Banxia was being serious or just messing with them. He might simply want them to take two each, since one per person is too few.
But if you look at it from another angle, to maintain the training quality in Second Department? That’s kind of understandable too.
What he really has in mind, only Liu Banxia himself knows.
But he wasn’t saying, and that really upset the three of them.
"What’s up with these three? Why are they all puffed up with anger? Weren’t they just happily eating with you?" Qi Wentai asked curiously.
"Just teasing them a bit, it’s nothing, we were just talking about the upcoming mentoring." Liu Banxia said casually.
"You guys go have your meal, I’ll stay here and watch them. Today’s stir-fried meat strips are good, highly recommended. Not much left, so you better hurry."
Qi Wentai laughed—having Liu Banxia on duty always made things this cheerful.
"Teacher Liu, just tell me, how many did you originally plan for us to take?" Liu Yiqing sidled over.
"Two. Feel better now?" Liu Banxia said.
Liu Yiqing eyed him warily, honestly still not very reassured.
"It really is two, since your skill level is still a bit lacking, and your exposure is still limited. Two is about right. Any more and you really won’t be able to take proper care of them." Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"If you each only took one, that’d be a bit of a waste, so we set it at two. When the time comes, you have to take it seriously and make it look like something. I really don’t have that much time on my hands."
That was the plain truth, because next up he’d be working with the hospital back in his hometown again, and for the next few months he’d be insanely busy.
Days off? Don’t count on it.
Right now he’s the only one who can competently perform NOSES surgery, and the key cooperation project is the promotion of NOSES. Whether he’s willing or not, he has to go.
It’s just that while it’s tough now, once the six little ones are fully trained, they’ll be able to shoulder a lot of the work. By then things will ease up and he might even be able to give himself a little vacation.
But that also takes time. NOSES surgery involves too many tricky points; he doesn’t dare let them start casually.
If everything goes smoothly in an operation, that’s fine. If it doesn’t, it’s a blow to their confidence.
After all, they don’t have a dream-space to practice in, and that’s exactly what Liu Banxia’s next training phase for them is about.
The theoretical knowledge is more or less in place, and they’ve watched him operate so many times. Now it’s time to connect it with actual practice.
Even if Liu Yiqing and the others still felt a bit uncertain, they knew it basically meant two interns per person. It was some pressure; coordinating for Liu Banxia and personally mentoring were two very different things.
Seeing that there wasn’t much going on, Liu Banxia slipped off to the lounge—he still had to check in on his daughter and son.
The two little ones had only just managed to remember him; he couldn’t let them forget again just because he was on duty tonight.
Maybe because they couldn’t really see Liu Banxia clearly through the screen, the two kids didn’t show much reaction. They just kept on doing their own thing, little arms and legs flailing back and forth.
Even so, as an old father, Liu Banxia was already very content.
"Alright, that’s enough, my arm’s tired from holding up the phone." Qiaoqiao said.
"Fine by me, I just worry they’ll forget about me again." Liu Banxia said.
"You never know. Qing Kewa’s leaving the day after tomorrow—will she be able to come back on time tomorrow night?" Qiaoqiao asked.
"About that, all I can say is I’ll try. Honestly, I really can’t promise." Liu Banxia said helplessly.
"Actually, I’m hoping she can stay a few more days. Do you know how expensive it is to hire a confinement nanny now? Having her is great, just feed her and that’s it. Such a bargain—you won’t find that anywhere else."
"How can you put it like that? But after spending so much time with her, I’m a bit reluctant to let her go. We’ve already postponed it for over a month; she doesn’t dare stay any longer herself, afraid she’ll let her own life go to waste." Qiaoqiao said.
"It’s really just that the two little ones are still too little. Otherwise, I’d be planning to take them over there and play with Qing Kewa for a few days. Anyway, no matter whether you have time in the future or not, I’m taking the babies out for a trip."
"Alright, alright, I’ll squeeze out some time when the moment comes. Even if I can’t be there for the whole trip, I’ll at least go for two days, see something new. I haven’t been abroad yet." Liu Banxia said.
"Enough, you sound so pitiful. I’m going to play with the kids for a bit." Qiaoqiao finished and hung up.
Liu Banxia wasn’t picky. Just like he’d said, as long as he could see the two little babies, he was perfectly satisfied. As for anything else, that was secondary.
When he walked out, he saw the six little ones huddled together, whispering.
No need to think about it—must be discussing how to bring in the newcomers. There’s still some time before that, but knowing them, they can discuss it for days.
"Alright, Director Liu, we’ve got a case, and a big one. High level of difficulty, multiple injured patients coming in." At this moment Qi Wentai walked over.
"Seriously? I thought today was just going to pass peacefully. Are they badly hurt?" Liu Banxia asked.
"Hard to say. You’ll know when they get here in a bit. Everybody move, it’s a bus accident, more than twenty injured." Qi Wentai said.
That gave Liu Banxia a jolt; mainly because there were just too many injured.
"Alright everyone, perk up. Get ready for admission and follow President Qi’s arrangements." Liu Banxia shouted.
The team hurried into action, fully on guard.
But once these patients walked into the emergency center lobby, Liu Banxia and the others were a bit dumbfounded.
This bunch had clearly been at some event; each one was dressed up like vampires or zombies. And that created a problem—their injuries were hard to judge.
What, you people had nothing better to do? Of all the things to play, you had to pick this?
No wonder Qi Wentai said their injuries were hard to assess. With time on scene so tight, how are you supposed to judge?
"Teacher Liu, what do we do? We can’t even finish just finding the wounds." Xu Yino asked.
"No choice, we’ll have to go big. Use hydrogen peroxide. Even if they suffer a bit, there’s nothing we can do." Liu Banxia said.
"Eh? Right, hydrogen peroxide foams up when it meets blood. That’ll speed up the exam, though it’ll sting a bit." Xu Yino nodded happily.
Normally they were used to using povidone-iodine, but today they really had no other option. Otherwise just examining one injured person would take ages, let alone this many casualties.
You could call this a sort of obscure tip—if you don’t pay attention to it usually, you really wouldn’t think of it.
"Any severe injuries?" Liu Banxia asked.
"Looks like there’s one at the back. These in front are all people we stopped first to check." Qi Wentai said.
"Then leave them to Liu Yiqing’s group. From what I saw they’re mostly simple lacerations. If needed, add a head CT." Liu Banxia said.
"Got it. The ambulance’s here. I’ll receive and see what’s going on; you organize the ones inside. There’ll probably be more coming. Headache—too many people."
"Bus driver: blood pressure 80/50, blunt trauma to chest and abdomen, scalp laceration, right femoral fracture; oxygen and fluids given in the ambulance."
The paramedic pushing the patient down reported.
"Resuscitation Room 1. Breathing is labored, prepare for intubation and chest tray. Prepare rapid blood transfusion, call cardiac surgery." Liu Banxia said.
The nurses quickly pushed the gurney toward the resuscitation room.
"Director Liu, the patient’s about to crash."
They had just entered the resuscitation room when a nurse gave a warning.
"Cardiac arrest. 1 unit epinephrine. Get Doppler ultrasound and the defibrillator ready." As he spoke, Liu Banxia started CPR on the patient.
The nurse beside him pushed the defibrillator over, and Liu Banxia quickly scanned the chest.
"Right ventricular air embolism. Get a puncture needle ready. Has cardiac surgery arrived?" After scanning, Liu Banxia asked.
"Not yet."
The nurse answered quickly.
"I’ll do it." Liu Banxia’s tone was firm.
Everyone around them tensed up; a puncture like this was extremely risky.
