Chapter 1381: Chapter 1381: Everyone Wants Liu Banxia

"Teacher Liu, does this phase of training count as finished?"

Once Liu Banxia came on shift, the six little ones all swarmed over in unison.

"More or less. For now you don’t need to study so intensively. But later if there’s an uncommon or high‑difficulty operation, you’ll still need to go over and watch." Liu Banxia said.

"Teacher Liu, does that mean you’ve mastered all the surgeries now?" Liu Yiqing asked curiously.

"What are you thinking? How could that be possible? It still has to come bit by bit, as cases come in." Liu Banxia said.

"Whatever, I’m not worrying about anything. The day after tomorrow I’m off, you figure it out yourself." Wang Chao said.

"Okay. You’ve worked hard this stretch too. Even though my meal card has suffered, I’m on duty the day after tomorrow as well, so you can really get some rest." Liu Banxia nodded with a smile.

"Why are you agreeing so readily? Is there some pit waiting for me to jump into?" Wang Chao asked cautiously.

"What pit? You helped me with the work, of course I have to show my thanks. I originally thought twenty‑odd days would be enough, but in one go it turned into more than thirty days. I’m really very grateful." Liu Banxia said.

"It’s been hard on everyone during this period too. I’ve basically become a flying knife at our acute care center—do the operation and then I’m gone. Honestly I never expected it; pediatric general surgery is actually quite interesting too."

"Enough, stop rubbing it in. You said it yourself—we’ll be waiting to have lunch with you at noon." Wang Chao said.

"Of course." Liu Banxia nodded with a grin.

He absolutely had to thank them. Without everyone’s support, how could he have been running off to the children’s hospital so often? Even if it’s all within one big system, that still doesn’t make it okay.

And as for him wrapping up this round of training, the happiest ones are definitely the six little ones. They’ve been trailing around after him; when he’s not in the hospital it’s like they’ve lost their backbone, feeling unsettled and at loose ends.

"So, over these two days, are there any patients in the ward who need extra attention?" After he got to the Second Department office, Liu Banxia asked.

"No, everything’s normal at the moment." Xu Yino said.

"It’s just that the patient with terminal rectal cancer and bowel obstruction came by yesterday to deliver a silk banner. We’ve hung it up already. He really wanted to meet you, but there really wasn’t any chance."

"What happened? It’s only been a month and he’s already done for?" Liu Banxia asked in surprise.

"No, he’s going traveling. No one knows when he’ll come back. His kids are going to take turns asking for leave to accompany him on the trip; he wants to spend the rest of his days traveling around our beautiful country."

"He’ll come back when his body really can’t hold up anymore. But by then, I’m afraid he won’t be in the mood to chat with you. When you think about it, you still feel a bit off inside."

"How does he look, spirit‑wise?" Liu Banxia asked.

"He looks quite good actually. He’s been convalescing at home this whole time." Xu Yino said.

"Our surgery went very well, but his overall condition is still poor. So he’s decided to go have some fun, which is fair enough."

Liu Banxia nodded. "Alright, let’s make a round of the ward, then I need to get downstairs to help out as well. I’ve been away this long, I really do feel I owe everyone."

The six little ones burst out giggling, remembering how they’d tormented Wang Chao during this period.

Without the pressure from Liu Banxia, ward rounds really did require a bit less brainpower. It was just that Wang Chao had to rack his brains dealing with all their little questions.

Not necessarily things actually happening with patients—sometimes just issues they imagined.

Following Liu Banxia on rounds, they spent a bit longer today.

There were some patients he’d been constantly out and about lately, so he didn’t know their situations as thoroughly; he chatted a bit more with them.

"By the way, Teacher Liu, do you think President Cheng’s child with his friend is actually going to happen? How did they end up deciding things?"

As they walked toward the lobby on the first floor, Xu Yino asked.

"How would I know? I haven’t asked about the later part either. But people with money have plenty of channels—my guess is they’ll go for surrogacy." Liu Banxia said.

"But if it’s surrogacy, for a family like theirs it’s kind of hard to explain where the child came from, isn’t it?" Xu Yino asked.

"What else can they do? It’s still better than getting married and then divorced. Whether you look at influence or finances, surrogacy comes out ahead." Liu Banxia said.

"Even if that kind of operation isn’t allowed domestically, don’t forget—they’ve got money, they can go abroad. When the time comes they can just say it’s an illegitimate child. It’s only about having an heir anyway; that kind of loss they can afford."

"Sigh... looks like rich people have plenty of worries too." Xu Yino sighed.

This really isn’t something you can sum up neatly; it sits in a space with no clear boundaries.

It’s very rare inside the country, and of course only rich people can play around with it. But abroad it’s very common; lots of clinics specialize in this kind of thing.

When they reached the lobby, Liu Banxia waved his hand and Xu Yino and the others joined the big team receiving outpatients. He stayed on standby, needing to make up for all the support everyone had given him during this period.

"This time I’ve really finished learning it, right? I can go straight up to the table now?" Chen Hongyang walked over.

"You still need to let it settle a bit. There are a lot of technical key points in there." Liu Banxia said.

"We really can’t compare with the Children’s Hospital; that’s the advantage of a specialty hospital. But what hit me the hardest is how hard it is to build a training ladder. It takes way more time than for other surgeons."

"Of course. If it were easy, things wouldn’t be like this." Chen Hongyang said.

"But with what you can do, you’ve been an observer for so long already, there shouldn’t be any problem, right? At least you’ve seen all these surgeries once."

"That’s not how it works. I still need to really chew on a lot of things. Observing and actually doing it are two different concepts. Right now I can only say I won’t panic when I’m on the table." Liu Banxia hurriedly said.

That was him speaking honestly; he wasn’t being modest, and he wasn’t trying to dodge.

His study mode these days was to practice first in the dream space, then compare it with real operations at the table.

Only like that could he get a deeper impression and a deeper grasp.

But even so, it’s not like watching once will carve it deeply into his brain. Compared with what you gain from actually doing it, there’s still a layer missing.

Next he’d have to feel his way through it again in real operations.

Even so, he still gained more than others during the observership. Because when he operated in the dream space, anywhere he was lacking or anything he didn’t understand, he could focus on observing that during the real cases.

"That’s good enough. At least we can start doing what we can in this area. How’s your rookie hunting going? Is Cui Jia interested?" Chen Hongyang asked again.

"You can’t rush this. It has to be slow. I can put pressure on her and make her follow along to learn, that’s doable, but she might regret it in the future."

"Same with the six little ones. My requirements and expectations for them are simple: study medicine happily. Studying medicine is already hard enough; if you can’t even study a field you’re interested in, that’s even harder."

"Don’t rush. I’m still learning myself. If it really doesn’t work out, I’ll just go sweet-talk my way around the medical school again. Maybe there’ll be someone who likes this project. That’s what I’m thinking anyway."

"Sigh... I’m being a bit too anxious too. I keep feeling like pediatrics is finally taking shape, so I want to see results as soon as possible." Chen Hongyang sighed.

"To be straight with you, the hospital does intend to increase investment in pediatrics at our emergency center. But the key depends on you—whether you can prop up pediatric general surgery."

"Nice, I just thought I could catch my breath and now you dump this big pressure on me." Liu Banxia said with a wry smile.

"You’ve got to give me some time, at least. We’ll take it slow, no rush. You’re on for the next consult, right? Go see the patient, there are quite a few pediatric cases today."

Chen Hongyang laughed. "I’m going. Look at you, scared like that. You’ve already learned it, what are you afraid of? You’re something else."

With that, Chen Hongyang walked off, grinning.

He actually had more confidence in Liu Banxia than Liu Banxia had in himself.

You could call this a kind of "system aftereffect"; not just for him—everyone was like this more or less.

Otherwise they wouldn’t have sent him out to observe pediatric surgeries. Clearly, they want him to patch this short board at Second Hospital.

If Liu Banxia really makes some achievements in this area, and can even train a group of people, then a few years from now things will look completely different.

You could even say his contribution to the hospital would be bigger than promoting NOSES surgery.

Fix what you lack—what we lack are pediatric surgeons. We’re not short of general surgeons. Even if they can’t do NOSES, they can still do laparoscopic surgery.

"You, lately you’ve been so busy that our emergency center’s been way more gloomy." Xu Hui came over.

"Heh, with me, the resident chatterbox, gone, it feels a bit weird, doesn’t it?" Liu Banxia asked with a smile.

"More than weird—it’s extremely weird." Xu Hui said.

"Normally when I’m worn out from consulting, I chat with you for a bit and it lightens things up. Talking with other people just isn’t as clear-cut, not as fun."

"How’ve you guys been lately? Busy?" Liu Banxia asked.

"How could we not be? During season changes, respiratory infections are the most common. Du Fancheng’s side is busy too; lots of rhinitis patients, this is prime time." Xu Hui said.

"Sometimes when you think about it, being alive isn’t easy either. You’re always going to have little illnesses and minor mishaps, especially after thirty‑five. That’s when your body starts going downhill faster."

"Sigh... I’ve been so tired lately. Every day when I get home, after a bite of food, sometimes I don’t even want to shower, I just want to crash straight into bed." Liu Banxia sighed as well.

You can’t pretend you’re not aging, even if you’re not old yet.

Energy is limited. If it weren’t for the system’s buff, he wouldn’t dare keep this pace—he’d have been so exhausted he’d be walking while holding onto the wall.
