The Eldritch Files
Chapter 279 252: Who Cares About Your World (3)
Mr. Buddha, who usually wore a gentle smile, was clearly having trouble smiling now.
On another side of the battlefield, Zhang Chiguo faced a City Slaughter Sacrifice wreathed in a crystalline glow. He threw a vicious punch, meeting it fist to fist. His own fist, wrapped in Crimson power, slammed against his opponent's, which radiated crystalline light.
A frenzied power erupted. It was Zhang Chiguo who was sent staggering back from the force of the blow.
'Is this the power of a City Slaughter Sacrifice?'
Zhang Chiguo suppressed the madness in his heart as he thought this, but then he suddenly saw a figure beside him charge forward.
It was Black Tiger!
He and the Doctor had come to support Zhang Chiguo's position. Seeing Zhang Chiguo at a disadvantage, Black Tiger instantly rushed forward. His form radiated an astonishing ferocity. He strode forward, drew back his elbow, and rapidly activated his Spiritual Power, lunging at the City Slaughter Sacrifice like a battering ram.
He let out a world-shaking roar: "HA!"
?
Zhang Chiguo jumped in shock. "What the hell are you 'ha'-ing for? Don't you have any clue who you're up against?"
Ignoring the churning in his blood, he shot forward and yanked him back.
The instant he pulled Black Tiger behind him, the Crystal Priestess's eyes narrowed. Two beams of crystalline light struck the spot where Black Tiger had just been standing, searing a large crater into the concrete.
BANG!
The Crystal Priestess tried to press her advantage, but a bullet from an unknown source struck her between the eyes, slowing her for a moment.
Meanwhile, Mr. Fantian had exchanged several blows with a City Slaughter Sacrifice who had beast-like vertical pupils. He'd had a leg torn off, but he had also blinded one of his opponent's eyes.
Just as his opponent was about to grab him and rip off his other leg, a short-haired young woman manipulated the shadow beneath his feet and pulled him back.
It was Miss Crow.
She hadn't followed the Lady in the Red Windbreaker to support Mr. Buddha. Instead, she and the others had come to Zhao Fantian's side.
The ever-aloof Zhao Fantian, never expecting to be saved by such a low-ranking Executor, actually raised his head. He glanced behind Miss Crow, as if meeting the grim gaze of the eye hidden within her Spirit World.
"Thank you."
He spoke in a low voice, "Your control over your Spiritual Power is excellent. Why is your use of Mysterious Power such a mess?"
"Because I've never been able to control this eye."
Miss Crow was still in awe of the Independent Investigator. At his question, she lowered her head and said, "So I listened to my aunt and have always avoided the eye. Sometimes, when I really couldn't get away from it, I even split into two versions of myself..."
"There's no need for that."
Zhao Fantian said in a low voice, "With things like these, you need to face them head-on. Willingly accept their corruption!"
"After this crisis is over, come find me. I'll train you myself!"
...
Miss Crow was a little surprised to hear this. 'I do hold these legendary Independent Investigators in high regard, it's true.'
'But this Mr. Fantian... he looks like he's about to be beaten to death himself...'
...
The calmest, without a doubt, was Investigator Moses. He single-handedly faced a City Slaughter Sacrifice and seven or eight Mysterious Believers. He was clearly starting to struggle, but he still managed to block their path all by himself.
Unlike the bustling chaos elsewhere, no one had come to help him.
It wasn't that no one heard the commotion and wanted to come support him. But upon recognizing him, they had quietly retreated.
After all, this Mr. Moses had a rather poor reputation. The attrition rate for people who worked with him was far too high.
Unless under direct orders, no one was willing to be by his side.
Therefore, even though Li Moxi was a ruthless fighter, a one-man defensive line, there is a limit to what one person can do. He was the first to show signs of being overwhelmed.
...
...
"Powerful, insane, and they've mastered esoteric knowledge on a level beyond ours..."
Also facing the Abyssal Studio, Song Chushi spoke with difficulty, "Faced with people like you, Qinggang's resistance does seem a bit futile..."
"But..."
Under the heavy, oppressive gaze of the tall, thin woman, with his Ciphertext Array destroyed, he suddenly looked up, his expression holding a hint of ruthlessness. "Do you know what true madness is?"
"Madness is choosing to destroy it rather than let you have it!"
Before the words had even left his mouth, he made a pressing motion with his hand. An obscure, strange Spell suddenly echoed from the case he held. A bizarre Ciphertext Array materialized beneath his feet, covering a ten-meter radius.
The next moment, he turned to Han Su and shouted in a low voice, "It's time!"
Han Su nodded slightly and clenched his left fist. On the back of his hand, the Cross Copper Scar appeared.
A thick fog suddenly gathered, enveloping both Han Su and Song Chushi, as well as the Scalpel Team.
In all directions, the countless Ciphertext Arrays laid by Song Chushi seemed to have had their runic chains severed by the Scalpel Team, rendering them useless.
But unexpectedly, the severing was just the beginning. As the surface layer of Ciphertext Arrays faded, a deeper layer was revealed. One by one, they began to spread, flowing rapidly into the endless shadows of Qinggang.
KER-PLUNK!
It was like the sound of a giant boulder dropping into the deepest part of the Abyss, a barely perceptible noise.
But that sound was growing louder, spreading in waves from the distant depths, like thunder rolling up from the Abyss.
Across from them, the tall, thin woman finally seemed to realize something. Her expression changed slightly as she asked in a low voice, "What have you done?"
"Just thought I'd pit the entire city against you."
Song Chushi's figure flickered in and out of view within the fog. He smiled with great restraint. "Qinggang City would indeed have a hard time fighting the Abyssal Laboratory. But what if the Spiritual Power of thirty million people were activated all at once?"
Faced with this technician, whose smile held not a trace of aggression and could even be called harmless, even the tall, thin woman couldn't maintain her composure. She cursed under her breath:
"You lunatic..."
...
In the very next instant, that endless rolling thunder magnified to its extreme, sweeping over her and the Abyssal Laboratory like the sky falling and the earth splitting asunder.
