The Eldritch Files
Chapter 267 - 247: Zero Sequence Number 13: All Gone
Zhang Chiguo’s murderous intent, which had been accumulating for four years, erupted all at once. Deeply influenced by the Crimson, he just wanted to kill someone to satisfy the craving. But as it happened, these three Independent Investigators were no simpletons. They managed to hold him in check, preventing him from succeeding.
And the more he failed, the stronger this murderous urge became. When he suddenly sensed a weak point somewhere, his eyes flashed, and he roared instinctively.
His body cut a bloody streak through the air as he lunged above Li Moxi.
He swung his arm, and countless crimson threads surged madly from his body, drilling straight into Li Moxi.
Then, he brought a fist straight down toward Li Moxi’s face.
"Not good!"
Zhao Fantian and Wang Buddha sensed something was wrong and rushed in from both sides. One slashed with his dagger while the other raised his gun and fired at the back of Zhang Chiguo’s head.
The three Independent Investigators didn’t need special training to execute exquisite coordinated attacks.
When one was in danger, the other two would attack the enemy to relieve the pressure. It was precisely this unspoken chemistry that had allowed them to contain the maddened Zhang Chiguo here.
But they hadn’t expected this. Things were different from the beginning—Zhang Chiguo was truly insane now.
He could clearly feel the imminent danger from behind, but who had time to care about that?
His Spiritual Power twisted the space around him, forming a crude shield, but his fist continued its descent, showing no mercy.
"THWACK!"
The punch smashed into Li Moxi’s face, sending him skidding across the ground.
In the next instant, the attacks from Zhao Fantian and Wang Buddha arrived. At their level, the power of a strike wasn’t determined by the weapon in hand, but by the will and Spiritual Power they unleashed, and by the Crimson power they could channel.
The slash and the bullet were both immensely powerful, yet Zhang Chiguo took the hits head-on. On his body, clouds of blood mist materialized into writhing, twisted threads and tentacles.
As he endured the two powerful attacks from behind, the tendrils writhed menacingly, devouring the Crimson power from the assault before forcibly retracting back into Zhang Chiguo’s body.
He let out a guttural roar as his Crimson power surged once more. He followed up with another punch, viciously smashing it into Li Moxi’s face.
He had actually transferred the force of the crisis at his back onto Li Moxi.
"You..."
After taking the first punch, Li Moxi’s Pale and handsome face was already contorted with fury.
After the second, his nose was streaming with blood. It was a pathetic sight.
But what no one else could know was the psychological devastation he felt.
Li Moxi prided himself on only two things: his high efficiency when carrying out missions, and his philosophy for resisting the Crimson.
Although he was someone who could never escape the contamination of the Crimson’s power, someone who would never have the chance to transcend its pollution and reach the "Master" level, he had always believed that was just his bad luck for encountering the Crimson in the first place. It didn’t mean his philosophy was flawed.
If he weren’t so proud of his philosophy, he wouldn’t have been confident enough to teach it to Han Su.
But now, it was this very philosophy that had become his sore spot.
’Facing the crazed Zhang Chiguo, the other two had no problems, yet I’ve become the first weak point to be broken?’
’Never mind Zhang Chiguo. Of those two wastes, one only knows how to endure and endure—he’s about to endure his way into becoming one of the Mysterious Believers. The other only knows how to ask the Hidden School for help. I don’t give a damn about either of their philosophies...’
’But now, this is telling me I’m not even as good as them?’
’That I’m the biggest waste of all?’
’...’
To others, this might have been nothing, but to Li Moxi, the blow was indescribably massive. His pride and confidence were shattered in that single moment.
He simply could not accept this outcome.
He cried out in fury, slamming a hand against his heart. His Spiritual Power surged forth, uncontrolled and frenzied.
Among the four of them, Wang Buddha was the oldest and had the highest magnitude of spiritual power. Zhang Chiguo was second, and Li Moxi was the youngest. However, due to his constant resistance, his Spiritual Activity was actually the highest.
Now, as his Spiritual Power vibrated, a red Sea of Spiritual materialized around them, rolling toward Zhang Chiguo from both sides.
Within the red waters, countless twisted, furious faces could be seen, each one different, each one ghastly and unnerving.
These were the faces of all the people who had died because of his missions, faces he had seared into his own memory.
For the sake of a mission, Li Moxi would not hesitate to sacrifice anyone’s life.
From D7 agents to Investigators to members of Red Sea Studio, countless people had died on his command, yet his conscience was clear.
Everything was for the sake of completing the mission.
Whether these people hated him for it or died unwillingly, it didn’t matter. ’For the sake of the mission, you must die.’
’I will remember your faces. I will bear the weight of your resentment on my own shoulders. I am not afraid to face your hatred for me.’
To dare to use such a crazed yet efficient method required an incredibly strong heart.
Thus, these people who had died during his missions had instead merged into his Sea of Spiritual, becoming Servant Ghosts he could command. Now, driven by his will, they swarmed and enveloped Zhang Chiguo.
This bought them some time. Zhao Fantian and Wang Buddha were right behind, both having deployed their Divine Material. Their frenzied attacks followed, their only goal at that moment to force Zhang Chiguo to turn around.
But at the very instant their attacks landed, Li Moxi also seized the opportunity. His figure shot abruptly into the air.
